I would have to say Vladimir because in a tank meta he is good at dealing with tanks because of his high amount of damage compared to other actual tanks (I wouldn't necessarily consider him a tank, but more of a bruiser. He is a damage that that can build tank) and because he can sustain himself in the longer team fights. You might make the argument that swain is similar, but I don't think that swain is as good as good as Vladimir because I think Vladimir is a much better later (at least early). Swai is less mobile and he doesn't really have sustain until 6 and then that sustain causes him to push waves which with his very low mobility puts him in an unsafe position. Vladimir on the other hand can start with his sustain and he is more mobile making him less susceptible to ganks.

Swain and Vlad arent tanks.

And Galio needs like 5 mana items to work btw.

Vlad is a tank, and Swain's build makes him tanky

Vlad is not a tank, he's a bruiser mage. A tank builds randiuns, banshees, thornmail, warmogs, spirit visage, frozen heart, mercs/tabi. Not just 1 of them, but like 4-5 of them. They build 1 damge item, maybe 2 (and that second one shouldn't be until the end). Vlad's core WotA is not a tank item, neither is any other frequently built Vlad item except SV.

You are just thinking in side the box. Vlad's core item, WOTA, is what allows him to stay in lane. After that he can be kept building tank through rylais, spirit visage, etc. Effectiveness aside, his passive literally allows him to go the tankier route.

His only cc is a minor slow in his pool. Not a tank.

Rylai's isn't a tank item, Vlad doesn't really have any tank steroids, and vlad doesn't have the peel/protection to be a tank. Tanks are meant to be disruptive and soak up damage. Vlad pooling so other people can tank for him isn't being a tank.

Vladimir is really good atm, but Swain is really really good . He has always been good, but since everyone plays tanks now, and he builds item 3151 ( It needs a buff for most champs, but not for Swain) and he destroys tanks ( E, R, Q , W , = dead tank). Mat7itan , you got Vlad right, but missed on Swain. Swain will NEVER push lane, because 1. He has no good farming ability ( Ult prioritises champs, so it is hard to push, even using his ult) and 2. Why would anyone use his ult, and waste his mana to push a lane as a no escape champ ? But yeah, Vlad and Swain are kinda the same in game play. Both are MONSTERS in team fights, the main diference are that Vlad has 1 escape, Swain has 1 aoe cc and on Vlad you are very ult dependent during team fights, Swain will all ways have is ult.

As a Galio main, I think Cho has the highest burst (not just R but his other skills too) but his low mobility means not building him tank is risky. He has Ok dps for wave clear, decent CC and yeah, R hurst even if he builds full tank.

Vlad I think has more damage than Swain in long fights, and with a delayed burst skill, but swain is more consistant. Vlad has to go in and out until he can finish you off, while swain can keep fighting and bait a whole team (cause you think you can kill him, while vlad you know will pool) Because of Vlads ulti, he is better top, because in mid, most champs have hourglass, and once mana is not an issue, they can put pressure on him.

Galio has good damage and is a more team orientated tank. While full Tank Cho always has damage in the form of his ultimate, full tank galio is sometimes weaker than the combo build. He can build tank without losing damage, (full AP is actually weaker, while full tank is squishier, cause his W scales with AP, and his CD makes him vulnerable after he uses spells). He is ideal for being a damage dealing tank, but he can't delete like Cho, or sustain damage like swain, and lacks mobility like Vlad, so it comes down to what you want?

Galio's combo can do good damage, while maintaining a tank build Cho builds tank or AP, it's harder to do both, meaning you are more reliant on R, or have to be weary of ganks. Vlad is very safe but you can work around him (he avoids damage and heals, rather than takes damage like the other 3) and swain is consistent but lacks the presence of Cho and Galio when it comes to tanking. A good tank not just goes on the front line, but makes the enemy regret ignoring them. Dash past a Galio and get his Ulti, dash passed a cho and get knock up while he still holds back your allies. But dash passed swain and he can't do much, he lacks the CC of typical tanks and therefore is not ideal if a tank is what you need.

Personally, Galio is a wise mid pick, whereas Cho is better top (both can do both, but excel in their meta lanes), Vlad is better top, if he can't get an early edge mid, but you need a real tank as support or jungle, same goes for swain. He can top or mid, but he is not a tank in the traditional sense, just a hard to kill mage

AP Tank?

Chogath Galio

Apollocliptic1 votes

don't forget Nunu Rumble Blitzcrank Zac

The ap scaling on Blitz is pretty hardcore, though you specified your options, so out of the ones you said, Cho and Galio are the only TANKS not tankY champs, while Cho tank is weaker than full AP cho, but Galio Tank still maintains high AP damage. So if you NEED a tank, Galio, if you NEED AP, Vlad > Swain, if you just want AP, Cho, if you just want tanky Swain

Need tank = no tanks on team, no AP go Galio Need AP = have tank, no AP go Vlad Want AP = have one AP champ bot (like anni or morgana) Go Cho Want tanky = Your team has no "defenders" but has "tanks" like Nasus as opposed to Maokai, go Swain so you don't need to rely on protection from other champs

That's my theory

I like Swain best there. Good CC, can build beefy and still do good damage, has the ability to sustain in a fight requiring the enemy to focus him down, and has a decent laning phase once you get used to his auto.

Cho would be my second choice, but his CC is less reliable imo.

IMO... in this meta Vlad, Cho, Swain...forget galio he is an oddball rare pick. As for the whole discussion on Vlad not being a tank I have to disagree highly. Why? Vlad imo is a dps mage tank. Think of him like a Drain tank he does not thrive off of having huge amounts of resistances or peel. If you guys know anything about team comps vlad is usually picked with lots of cc on board and high aoe/burst damage. 40% cdr vlad with CDR Boots, WOTA, Spirit Visage, Hour Glass, Rylias, and either Void or abysal is a very scary endgame vlad. He has high amounts of HP at least 500ap and a good chunk of armor and mr. What vlad does in the tank meta is dodge cc, or eat cc and q off tanks while waltzing to the back line nuking the carries and pooling out while the 5 man ult pops to kill off the stragglers if any lol. Vlad also likes the tank meta of having less carries usually mid and adc and more tanks. It gives him an easy laning phase and and once he gets going he really doesn't stop easy. If you are really ahead you can go the less cdr mage carry route and deal some nasty burst for a dps mage. He can peel with rylias and offer tanking and buy himself time when getting too low with hour glass and pool while healing in pool to rengage a fight or finish it and bait out kills. To wrap it up Vlad is in a really nice spot right now and he is not hard to pick up he just is hard to master and learn all the matchups and how to win lane early takes alot of personal skill as early game is rather difficult. Consider Vlad A Dps off tank mage don't let others confuse you of what he is or isnt he is kind of both. I also main Vlad and play him very very well so I'm speaking from pure experience and games played and won as vlad. Gl with your choice.

Better sustained damage = better scaling. Being a late game champion is not about being able to delete something, it is about repeatedly dealing high amounts of damage until no one on the other team is left standing. So either Swain or Vlad.

My options are: Swain, vladimir, chogath or galio

If I had to pick from those, I would go Cho'gath, but depends on how you want to play. Vlad is fun as well. Galio is strange and heavily item dependent imo, but I have seen people be successful playing him. I have no experience with Swain so I can't speak for him!
