I have found Gragas mid to be pretty decent. I have played a couple normal games and done pretty well. My build is 
. He has a lot of burst and he can still 2 shot squishes with a Q+R combo once you get full build. I was wondering if I should play Gragas mid in ranked, or are there other picks that are better.

Antonok1 votesHe's a niche pick mid now. He's a good counter to assassin's and some bursty mages, but his early game he can't do much. His innate tankiness makes him a much better top/jungle/support.

Regardless of how good he is mid, he's almost impossible to pick up currently thanks to over 80% ban rate in fear of his jungle.
KING ATTILA1 votesRight now, mana sustain is the biggest issue. If you don't mana burn, I think it will work nicely. Go for it in ranked.

The current way gragas functions is that he has a very strong all-in if you are able to land all of his abilities on the enemy. Do not expect to spam Q and burst down the enemy that easily. He has ALOT of dmg from his W and E so if you are not utilize these spells or are not able to gap close to the enemy, I don't recommend gragas. Gragas mid can be good but his playstyle is different from his former kit. Instead of athenes unholy grail, i also recommend building 
because of how much tankier he gets from the extra health and his passive synergies really well with health. Outside of mid lane, gragas functions as a strong AP bruiser that can do well both in top lane (mainly because he has strong trades and alot of top laners are melee champs) and jungle.
