Nexus Blitz: Event Feedback

#BARDLE ROYALE Gameplay Satisfaction: One of the simplest and easiest to understand, and definitely fun. It's cool to see how teamfights have to adjust to compensate for the shrinking circle. Takes expected League gameplay and adds a fun new effect onto it, so it lands really well. One recommendation would be to consider giving health or cooldown restoration when it begins, because this mode just isn't as fun when one team starts at a severe disadvantage and it's simply over immediately.

Clarity: Good. The effect of standing outside the circle could possibly be better communicated early on.

#KING OF THE HILL Gameplay Satisfaction: Like Bardle Royale, this one is easy to understand and fits into the sort of gameplay you'd expect from a frantic, team-fight based game mode. Again, a great twist on expected League gameplay.

Clarity: Excellent. Almost every gamer knows how to play King of the Hill.

#SNOWBALL FIGHT Gameplay Satisfaction: In my experience this mode isn't that thrilling. The lack of ability to dash to your targets means that both teams tend to just play passively for a while lobbing snowballs, and the fact that it's a straight line makes being exposed dangerous. I wonder if adding the dash mechanic so you can engage if you wanted to or making snowballs a Xerath-style lob rather than a line shot would make this game a bit more engaging and encourage people to take more risks.

Clarity: Average. The snowball visuals and impact-on-champion visuals could be boosted, and the progress bar at the top should more clearly indicate the number of snowballs needed, rather than a filling bar with no indication of the precise number of hits you have to spare.

#LOOT TEEMO Gameplay Satisfaction: Low. The fact that if often wanders to one side of the jungle or the other gives one team a severe advantage, and it's not fun to have one event where you can randomly lose at the last moment because someone didn't smite properly. I think satisfaction on this one would increase heavily if it were a little easier to actually make sure your contribution to the buff matters, or if there were gold events (for participation) and buff events (for victory) and this was merely the former. Currently this one feels the most random, and not in a good way.

Clarity: Poor. The bar at the top represents your successful progress towards winning every other event, but here it only shows who got the most gold, and in no way relates to the progress of the event.

#PUSH THE CART I haven't encountered this one yet, so I can't comment.

One of the simplest and easiest to understand

For the record it'd take an absolute moron to not understand how any of these events work, it explains it at the top of your screen god damn it. "Kill Loot Teemo", "Secure the hill", "Kill everyone in the circle"...seriously, how would someone not get this?

One recommendation would be to consider either announcing the event (Bardle Royale) ahead of time or auto-healing characters when it starts, because this mode isn't as fun when one team starts at a severe disadvantage and it's simply over immediately.

Disagree, you should always be prepared ahead of time for events & it's bad play on you or your team's part if they're at a numbers disadvantage because you didn't respect the countdown. Now on the topic of Bardle Royale forcing people under an enemy's turret....yeah, that's unfair. Same applies to King of the Hill.

the progress bar at the top should more clearly indicate the number of snowballs needed, rather than a filling bar with no indication of the precise number of hits you have to spare.

+1 , simple clarity change that would help to keep tally.

The fact that if often wanders to one side of the jungle or the other gives one team a severe advantage, and it's not fun to have one event where you can randomly lose at the last moment because someone didn't smite properly.

I love getting Silver junglers on my team only to have them give up 1-1.4K BF Shields because they can't press a simple button, HAHA XD! Seriously though agree heavily on this one, Loot Teemo's extremely uninteractive and the amount of bullshit it can be to have to follow it around (especially into enemy territory) is only surpassed by the annoyance that is the champ itself. Making it a unique gold-only participation event would be for the better.

{quoted}...it explains it at the top of your screen god damn it.

That doesn't mean clarity can't be increased though. For example, the Teemo's health bar takes what you think you know ("Kill the Teemo") and adds what appears to be a progress tracker that ultimate doesn't relate to who gets the buff. The cart-pushing mode lets you know to push the cart, but doesn't inform you that it can actually zoom off in one direction or another if a timer elapses. Some clarity is not necessarily the same as "properly informative of all important information."

In general, I agree. The reason I disagree on Bardle Royale is that it's the only event that you cannot return to or take time to heal up if necessary. In all other events you can recover from bad timing and simply be a bit behind -- in Bardle Royale it's not only a death sentence, but a protracted one that feels more awful than usual for the team at a disadvantage.

Fair enough.

If players aren't respecting event timers in the first place then I have no pity for them, especially if it's Bardle. I'm one of the few people who believe that the gamemode should be more competitive than ARAM and for players who can't respect event timers to be compensated would be counterproductive to that goal. You either time your back properly (which is also important in regular SR) or you get punished, that's how I see it regardless of gamemode.

AbiwonKenabi2 votes

I agree. I think event timers should be treated like a dragon timer: If your jungler or the bot lane backs with 2 seconds until dragon spawn, that's on you and your team. On the flip side, if you force a Zilean blow his ult right before Baron spawn, then your team is rewarded for their play by having an advantage on Baron. The events should be treated the same way.

In fact, I'd like Events better if the countdown was tracked on the Tab screen, like a dragon spawn.

I pull this from a thread in relation to Push The Cart. Here's the thread its from.

https://youtu.be/7t9Eze3oIPU Also note, I had issues with king of the hill being able to shrink itself where the centre would basically end up behind or under enemy turrets leaving you at a disadvantage where your opponent can just turtle until you all die or are forced to engage a suicide mission.

That's actually expected functionality, but probably is low clarity. I believe it's supposed to just rocket towards whichever team has an advantage when the event timer expires.

Kaisa Aran2 votes

That's correct, it could use clarity (a timer until the cart decides to go apeshit + marker as to who has the advantage) but functionally that's working as intended.

I'll just copy what I said earlier.

I'd like to see the "sudden death" mode changed. It would make sense if the game was relatively even after a set amount of time, but randomly losing a game you were winning because of it is lame.

They should also change that event where you have to fight within the red ring. I know this isn't supposed to be taken seriously, but it just seems really unfair when the circle you are required to fight in is literally on an enemy turret.

What if Sudden Death took a health chunk out of the Nexus for each building of yours that was destroyed? That way a team that is ahead still has a bit of an edge going in to Sudden Death.

KVbqbFsC8e2 votes

That could work, but I think the game being decided by whoever kills a minion is just not a very fun or satisfying experience.

AbiwonKenabi2 votes

Definitely agree. This is probably my number one change to improve Nexus Blitz right now.

I personally like Snowball Fight actually. I like that it promotes different gameplay styles. Instead of the best play being diving in and getting kills, its actually better to not jump in, at least not immediately. While I really like Bardle Royale, Push the Cart and King of the Hill, they basically amount to the same zone control and teamfighting...not that that's bad. But its nice when an event favors other Champion skill sets too. I wish there were one or two more events that accomplished something similar to add to the variety. Like, capture the flag or something.

Push the Cart is one of my favorites, can feel really back and forth and the constantly changing position keeps things fresh. It also is the only one with a handicap for the losing team that doesn't feel completely unfair at times: you push to the first tower available, which if you're ahead is a lot further. Feels more natural than some of the Bardle Royale or King of the Hill positioning.

I agree with you on Loot Teemo. Feels kinda lame and most of the time he'll just randomly run into the loving arms of one team or the other, with nothing the other team can do. I figured with Teemo, his stealth would come into play somehow, like you have to find him first. Instead you just kind of glomp him and get lucky.

You also forgot by far the worst one: Sudden Death. Absolutely do not like this one. Essentially, at 18 minutes the game decides things have been going on long enough and the Nexuses turn into giant minions and march down to their doom. Not only is this kind of a forced way to keep games short, but it also feels so dumb and unsatisfying. For one, it makes the rest of the match feel like it barely matters: win the last team fight and you win. It also feels bad that the most important objective in the game, the one that decides whether you win or lose, is turned into an expendable minion. Sure a big, strong minion with Nunu ults and a bunch of other junk, but a minion nonetheless (it can also be manipulated by Pyke, so I'm assuming Syndra can chuck it around too). This event needs to be completely retooled.

Another one I haven't encountered then (or heard of, frankly).

UnboundHades2 votes

its the same as bardle royale but 1 person on each team gets a massive health boost (might also be a damage boost idk)

its more unbalanced than normal bardle royale because the buff could be given to someone like a teemo on your team and a garen on theirs

AbiwonKenabi1 votes

Its not much different than Bardle Royale. Its the same, except one person from each team is the "Juggernaut" and gets a ton of health. Similar way to play, but you sort of position around your Juggernaut, especially if it ends up someone important like one of your damage dealers.

Just adding one side note if you don't mind : Bardle royale is a bit unfair in the sense that the circle ends below one team's tower, making it really easy if they have a strong def comp to win it

AbiwonKenabi1 votes

I think the circle spawns on the whole need readjustment. You could be up only one kill and the "losing" team will get an advantageous position. I think the threshold for handicap should go up. In addition, they too often spawn mostly under a tower. Its one thing to favor the losing side, but sometimes Bardle Royale will literally force you completely under enemy turret for survival. Its a little too annoying.

You forgot the final event Nexus Blitz which always starts at 18:00! :I

I dislike bardle royale because even just a tiny kill lead can severely handicap it for you, for example our team had 2 kills, enemy team 0 kills, put the point for bardle royale behind the enemy turret which means the game decided the enemy team deserves 5 kills because there's no way this early in the game we can go 5 vs 5 + turret and that's just unfair

NepgearDesu1 votes

As for an event being placed near an enemy turret, or in the enemies' jungle: it (supposedly) only does so when your team leads in terms of gold and/or experience (kills don't seem to count, as one of my last matches featured a circle closer to the enemy at six kills versus six). I admit that sometimes I raised an eyebrow seeing that we seemed about even and Teemo spawned on top of our turret, but still they should favour the team that is currently behind.

Thing is, if you are far enough ahead that the game decides to place the centre of the Bardle Royale circle under an enemy tower, it is pretty reasonable to try and end the event before being forced to fight there. You can decide to make the fight happen rather than wait for it. Granted, the conditions might not be optimal anyway, but you are not absolutely forced to battle under the stone guardian's gaze.

Loot Teemo (note that this is the second game mode that requires you kick the butt of this devil; remember Doom bots?) is about the same: if your opponents are far enough behind that the treasurer spawns on their side, you can force a fight over it. Most of the time, they should also have used a few abilities to hit the swift rich scout, and that's yet another advantage to you. Otherwise they'll just do their best to push it farther away to their side (I believe I have seen a Teemo change its path because blocked and pushed by champions; might be wrong though).

As for the Snowball Fight, I advise you to attack still. Eliminate minions and hide behind yours, place wards to shoot at people rather than the fog of war, and shoot various stuff at people trying to dodge snowballs. Of course it's easier as a long-range champion, but by all means, don't stop fighting! If you manage to immobilise a champion for three seconds, they should net you a few snowball hits. And people usually forget to throw said snowballs when they're being attacked... because in combat, they are used to having summoner spells, and these they won't use every two seconds. Think URF, but with summoner spells only!

As a side note: it's absurdly funny to take advantage of events to blow up the whole house. Like letting enemy champions form a small crowd by chasing after Teemo, and proceeding to delete them all at once; or picking champions with good CC and displacement, and make enemies burn to death who had not anticipated the Bardle Royale circle to cut off some paths. The latter makes me all fuzzy inside... [sg-jinx]

King of the hill+Flaming circle of death RNG need to be fixed. I don't like trying to capture the Hill when it's under the enemy turret.

With Nexus Blitz, maybe some more game modes would be enabled and random buffs, so every game is random in the small mini games to the rewards you get to them, so like 10-20 minigames, and 15-25 rewards maybe? And also some extra changes to the map may be good to make it feel a little more different from SR to make it feel like its own game mode.
