how does one pick a thresh lantern? (serious)

it seems that in pro play people are always able to click on the lantern of thresh even if the entire enemy team stands on it. in my case if just 1 minion stands on it, it doesnt matter where i click i cant take it.

i have the "target only champions" thing on a button but sadly that doesnt help either.

so there has to be some way that makes you able to only target the lantern?

You can click CLOSELY around the latern and hit a pixel that considers that you have grabbed the latern and travel to thresh position.
