I usually say shit about how weak he is, but I realized he's not weak, but the meta's just out of his favor. The guy's got a huge nuke, insane tankiness, a speed up, and strong aoe wave clear and team fight damage. Rather than being upset that he's not strong, I should have realized that he's simply not strong right now.

Garen's kit is immensely lacking; he does one thing decently well but it is far too easy to prevent him from doing it.

chipndip11 votesGaren isn't useless. Once you sort of get around his sticking issues with a few items, he's an absolute wrecking ball that can run out of fights, heal up, and come back in to finish the job.
The Lost Marbles1 votesGaren is essentially a diver who's trying to be a juggernaut and ends up mediocre at both.
Juggernauts have in-combat sustain (Darius Q, Illaoi tentacles, Yorick Q, Morde W...), while Garen's sustain is specifically OUT of combat, which gives him lower durability in prolonged fights.
On top of that, Darius has hard CC and a shield thanks to CotC. Garen has... a short single-target silence that requires him to run into attack range.
Garen's the only manaless champion in the game whose kit actually suffers for being manaless.

Well, first off, Morde is also manaless.
Garen only has high damage potential if he builds a bunch of damage, and is only respectably tanky if he builds defensive items.
Darius is more threatening with just a Cleaver than Garen is with just a Cleaver due to the physical bleed and the surge of AD he gets for fully stacking it. In a prolonged fight, Darius with defensive items has more longevity than Garen with defensive items thanks to Q heals.
Also, what kind of carries is Garen shutting down with his passive exactly? Anyone with any kind of poke can keep his passive turned off easily. Unless you meant the villain passive, which was a stupid gimmick anyway that just screws with Garen's power budget.
