Allied minions should move out of the way when you walk into them.

I was ruminating about how angry I am for dying to an opponent in top lane when my minions made a makeshift baron pit behind me to kill me, when I remembered a glorious mod that I have for Skyrim called something like "Move bitch!" The idea behind it was to move those annoying npc's that block doorways out of the way so that you don't get stuck. League should have that built into allied minions so that you don't get stuck due to terrible auto pathing.

It feels like minions take up more space on this patch, and it is infuriating. Perhaps I'm just crazier than I thought and unit collision is no worse than it used to be, but it sure seems like it's been getting steadily worse since last preseason and the new Rift.

It feels like I take up more space too. Everytime I'm a melee top I keep missing CS because I can't get through a gap or around a minion as easily as I remember being able to a few months ago.

yeah ive noticed creepblocking is way more serious after the patch. sometimes when im top I have to go around through mid lane to get around the fuckers just to cs.

So theyve been working on changing autopathing for a while. The way that it works as of this patch, if I understand it correctly, is that all units have some "prediction" of where other units are currently moving, and will avoid colliding paths. The idea is to remove a bunch of older bugs, where you'd get caught on another unit and walk in a very strange direction, or where you'd just keep running around inside a group of minions that were moving, unable to find a way out.

To some degree, this was successful- I haven't seen either of those effects as often since the change. However, it makes you walk around minions in a much wider path than you once did (even though their models/hitboxes are actually the same), resulting in the issue you've noticed...

At least, that's how I understand it. Could be they changed something else while I wasn't looking or I didn't fully understand in the first place.

pretty much this, I've noticed it especially in the jungle when I try and position myself specifically next to the jungle camps. They have an invisible wall that doesn't block your champion, per se, but they just freaking refuse to walk that close to minions/monsters.

This is why we have Nocturne Q.

Or just FREAKING REMOVE CREEP BLOCK! It's not really that crucial to the game.

ModAcademy Kayn5 votes

Actually, it is. How are people who are reliant on Skillshots going to be able to hit people who just hide inside their caster minions, or opponents being able to just walk inside minions to dodge skillshots?

Minion block is stupid, I agree, but there's a reason why there is Minion Block.

The Soulforged11 votes

Unit collision, not blocking skillshots.

ModAcademy Kayn6 votes

One in the same. If there wasn't minion collision, people could literally hide inside a wave of caster minion, effectively creating a shield to block skillshots.

Another example of Abuse done by Minion Collision, was SivHD's Hecarim Support, who can make an opponent hit him instead of CS, just by standing on the minions. He also did the same with his Adc, literally forcing them to hit him, instead of the Adc, just by standing on them.

If I'm correct, Phantom Dancer no longer makes you move through minions, which leaves only Kassadin and Fizz's passives left, and they have a lot of mobility, so removing creep block would barely change anything.

TurquoiseYoshi1 votes

Hecarim's passive, too.

And PD gives you creep block prevention when somebody is in Bard/Teemo/Sivir/Kog AA range, instead of always.

Oops, I completely forgot about Hecarim. I mainly just think of his MS=AD. Also, doesn't Sivir have a higher auto attack range than Kog'Maw, Bard, and Teemo?

TurquoiseYoshi1 votes

Yeah, it's not really that impactful compared to his actual passive.

Nope, but her Q, W, and passive make it easier to hit things that are far away.

To be honest, his actual passive isn't that impactful either. It only gives 40 AD tops, while Rammus usually ends up giving double that amount, if not higher.

I actually am ok with Minion Block existing. There have been so many times where I only walked away because I cut to the other side of the minions the moment I passed the wave, and my opponents pathing pulled him into the minions. You can also do messed up things with the grab toons (I.G. Blitz, Darius, Thresh) where you can drag them across a minion to cut off any retreat option. Look at it like a chess game. You are worried about your opponents rooks and knights until you realize you also have rooks and knights. No one has advantage except the individual who realizes that it can be taken advantage of.

Since when were Rooks and Knights a good combination? Rooks and Bishops ftw.

I agree. With how "damage-focused" this new patch is, I feel it's necessary to increase the ability to counterplay. Minions are asses to deal with sometimes, if not most of the time.

You know that there are less than a dozen champions that can reasonably take summoner 6, right? Why on Earth would you take a Summoner purely to deal with the chance of bad pathing?

I agree with this or atleast be able to move threw our own minnions ,theres so much to be calculated in this game that this minion thing just snags me up

WolfBV1 votes

When it happens to an enemy is hilarious, but to you, not so much. Reminds me of when the enemy Ashe was pushing an inhib and his minions form a literal wall behind her so she couldn't leave and I could just jump on her XD

Or we can make all champions walk through minions. EZ FIX.

OMFG THIS!!! THEY ARE MINIONS, WE ARE NOT! This is such a good idea omfg.

Gunslinger7441 votes

I actually got stuck on inhib tower debris and my own minions a bit ago. Luckily I was playing Jarvan IV and we had a huge lead, so I was tanky enough to sit there under fire for like 10 seconds until I could swagflag out of there. Still gay, if that happened to an ADC it could've been gamechanging because of a bug.

Dehitay1 votes

It seems like a very simple solution to this would be to make a boot upgrade like homeguard or distortion that allows you to pass through units. Though I have to agree with the general consent that minions are minion blocking a hell of a lot harder since the patch. I would definite prefer a revert on whatever it was that's causing this to happen.

Sohleks1 votes

As long as this does not disrupt the minion's auto attacking this may be a great idea.

Llanite1 votes

It would require the rework of 50+ champs whose abilities only affect first target hit. Ahri Ashe Brand Corki DrMundo Ekko Elise Ezreal Gnar to name a few.

Also massive buff to dozens of melee champs which would need reassessment as well.

I don't see how it's happening.

Leaf of the lake1 votes

Minion block is definitely worse on this patch. I'm not sure what happened, but there are so many times that I'm forced to go all the way around minions now whereas before I could sneak through them (albeit with some awkward pathing).

The Allies Guy1 votes

I was playing a game and this naut tried to AA the turret but a crowd of minions wouldnt even allow him to pass through to AA lmao

StrangeStrategy1 votes

I think it's crazy that minions (our own minions at that) bodyblock and yet we can't bodyblock with champions.

If you've played Heroes of the Storm, you know bodyblocking is a thing. It's weird at first, but it adds a new level of gameplay and it's actually kind of fun. Kind of stupid when a stupid murloc prevents a demon lord from walking in a straight line (Just trample him, wtf) but hey, it's fun to do.

Move bitch, lmao.

Bixits1 votes

When I played a match the other day this happened to me lol minions formed a massive wall in front of enemy mid tower and I couldn't get close enough to attack it, I had to walk all the way around.

kJs1 votes

What will happen with this is that this will be used to disrupt minions balance in lanes, disrupt your minion's attacks so that the enemy minions kill them faster. This would basically be another Advance Technique in lane controlling.

Too many minions in your side of the map? Walk through them to disrupt their attacks.

I can see this being a good idea, but i can't help but think that while they minions are moving out of your way, they could possibly end up getting in someone else's way (like approaching team mates or the like).
