So what the fuck? Did Riot back out of removing TP from the game?

ryona··2 votes·6,372 views

I just saw Meddler's notes on 8.5, there is nothing said about Teleport. After threatening to remove it from the game a day ago, suddenly adding more ambiguity to it is not very reassuring to someone already holding off from playing the game until more is said about it.

They never wanted to remove it, they just want to nerf/change how it works a bit.

Yes they fucking do, look at his statement.

No we don't.

We think it's good for the game that Teleport is in it, in significant part because it reduces how much some champs can otherwise end up on an island unable to interact enough with the rest of the game. That doesn't mean its exact mechanics are necessarily right though, in terms of how it's used, how often its used, who it's best on, how offensive or defensive the plays it creates are etc. Those are the sort of things we'll be looking.

THANK YOU FOR CONTEXT. So at the least I can now be assured it will be in the game as a summoner spell than anything insane.

That is ALL I wanted, thank you very much.

But he. Never. Once. Said. that they were removing it. You shouldn't have even needed context on it, because they never ONCE said they were removing it.

Where did you get this info?

claiming it's a problem to be investigated pretty much means that "problem" is going to be removed from the game usually.

Electro5221 votes

Uh......no? I'm sorry, but you are horribly misinformed.

Deathfire Grasp was removed because Riot couldn't figure out how to make it not a problem without making it an entirely different item. So, it was easier to just remove it.

Revive was removed because it had be at such a low power level, that it was essentially useless. Remember the first time URF was released? EVERYONE was running Tele and Revive. That gives you a good representation of what would happen if Revive could have competed with the other summoner spells.

Atma's Impaler was removed because Garen was the only champ who would ever build it. If they were to buff it to a point that other champs would use it, they would have had to nerf Garen into the ground and make it to where he either solely relied on it, or was completely useless.

Executioner's Calling was initially removed for the same reason why Atma's Was removed.......no one built it. It was either uff the item to God Tier levels, or remove it. However, unlike Atma's, they brought it back completely reworked, since AD did not have any option for Grevious Wounds.

All of these weren't removed just because they were a problem, they were removed because Riot couldn't properly fix the problem they were presenting. In each case, it was easier to remove them because if Riot tried to fix the problem, they may have created 10 more problems in the process.

it's not, that's why champion reworks happen

Kei1434 votes

When they are reworking champs, they don't delete them. They change them in a way that is healthier in terms of interaction.

Yeah they do lol, don't sugarcoat shit. The new Swain is a different champion under the same name and so is Sion.

Kei1433 votes

yea, VGUs are very different than mini reworks like xin / azir.

We expect a complete overhaul for big VGUs, but certainly not for the smaller stuff.

I still say your assumption is a bad assumption.

I wouldn't mind if they reworked Singed. But attacking Teleport is attacking my philosophy on successfully playing top lane or any non-support champion.

And for no fucking reason too, explain why it's a bad thing after all these years. Did they mind me doing the same shit in S5?

There was a post that they described what the problem space was for teleport.

You should go read that up.

Old Swain had no place in the new lore.

Neither did old Sion.

They only drastically change a champion's identity if the previous version didn´t even have a proper one to begin with.

Old Sion didn´t look like a hulking monster. Now he does.

Old WW didn´t look like a terrifying humanoid wolf, now he does.

Old Poppy looked like....a gnome, now she's a proper yordle.

Old Galio was generic gargoyle number 3960218463981851, now he's a petricite(the Demacian anti-magic mineral/rock) colossus.

And no one would even look at Old Swain and think: Noxian general. They look at the new and Lucius Malfoy memes aside, think he looks like a Noxian general.

Heck, i´m scared shitless about what they´ll do with Kayle's new lore, but i also understand that if necessary, they´ll retcon angels as well, despite me not wanting it, because it adds a lot of diversity to the areas around Runeterra.

Would it be worth looking into evening out its end results after being cast? I have always thought it was weird that the spell renders wards and minions invulnerable yet fizzles when the tower its cast on falls. I'm not trying to make a case for either, just curious to know if this was considered.

SuperRiceBoi1 votes

I don't see the issue with teleport as it is, because it's meant to be used for making impactful plays across the map. Perhaps there could be ways to negate a tp on the destination end, like giving tons of armor to a minion but not invulnerability, or something along those lines. You could also implement ways for the channel to be interrupted on either end.

Karn Bishop1 votes

Make the tp into a channeled gateway that can be destroyed at the "arrival area" to prevent otherwise badly placed tp ganks, there is no reason someone should be unable to stop a tp from the destination instead.

Naqel3 votes

I had an idea on the issue I'd like to hear a comment on:

What if TP became a mastery, similar to Hextech Flashtraption. Something to the effect of "Traveler's Flashstone - Replaces Flash with Teleport."

That way TP would at least see a change in what champions are viable with it, since it precludes the use of Flash as a summoner spell. I'd argue it's a good idea to at least try, given the similar play-making potential of both abilities.

Hellioning2 votes

I don't think anyone would ever take that apart from singed and olaf, and maybe Nasus. Flash is simply too strong to give up.

Keshaun1 votes

Make TP channel faster, but nerf the range on the summoner if you're looking to change the spell.

I think they're removing it from Zoe's w passive from minions.

Why nerf it, only reason top laners exist in this meta geez

Looking at TP, and chilling effect it has on the game in many cases, both in pro and regular play. Things like how it makes it harder to fight and meaningfully win in top lane, increases risk of aggressive play in bot (don't so you don't get TP flanked), leads to periods of 'wait until TP is up before trying anything late game etc."

how ABOUT GIVE SOME FUCKING CONTEXT SO SOMEONE WHO PLAYS TOP CAN BE AT EASE? A PLAYER WHO FUCKING NEVER BITCHES ABOUT BALANCING AND JUST PLAYS?

Respect the fact SOME FUCKING PEOPLE PLAY OFF MACRO AND TELEPORT AND NOT MAKE SUCH AN OMINOUS THREAT AND NOT GIVE ANY FURTHER CONTEXT.

because removing TP on a whim would undo four years of learning?

they're doing something and I don't know what it is but it's not appreciated.

I played about four games (3-1) today and if you look at my matches, they were all dictated by fed ADCs. I don't appreciate my teleport being taken away or neutered thank you.

Did it ever occur to you to actually figure out what they were doing before going ballistic? Like, did the thought "hey maybe I should find out what's going on before freaking the fuck out about what's going on" cross your mind, even for an instant? Or was throwing a tantrum like a spoiled 8 year old genuinely your first reaction?

They don't like TP and they're plotting to do something negative to it is the gist of it.

Here's a Link to a proposed TP change I've suggested.

https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/general-discussion/LoWEoiAn-teleport-balance?show=flat&page=1

I'll post the TL;DR

*TP is taken on at least one champion pretty much every game because it's safe and rewards the player using it for a variety of advantages such as ganking, laning, team fighting, objectives, etc. and therefor makes the game strategically stagnant and unappealing as riskier play styles are overshadowed by safe laning patterns supported by the current version of TP.

*Proposed Change/Rework for TP is to have it work like Ekko's ult, but instead of giving back the health percentage a few seconds ago, Teleport will remember your health percentage the last time you have activated Recall in the past 20 seconds. So if you use TP right after Recall, you will TP in with the health % you had at the time you last used Recall. To balance this laning disadvantage, Telelport's cool-down would be lowered and it can be used on any part of the map that you have vision of. This would mean it no longer needs a ward, minion, or tower to be used on; opening up new gank paths, better team fight positioning, and more frequent and appealing plays over all thereby helping his teammates carry even harder. This would also mean that a high-risk aggressive laning play-styles can try to gain an advantage in-lane and translate that into the mid and late-game; this creates a viable way for both play-styles to have an opportunity to succeed.

Oh and keep up the good work riot team!

the fact that you guys think this teleport change is fixing or balanacing stuff. is just sad. what a bunch of idiots we have working for this company. every time you change this game your removing strategy and choice. why? to make it more fair for the piece of crap people who cant.
