Why Does Getting More Essence of Blue or Red Kayn Lock Me Out of A Powerspike For 4 Minutes?

So if I am close to getting blue kayn, and I want red kayn, I have to intentionally not wack any ranged champions until I get red kayn or I fuck myself over? Why can't it just not have a lockout and I can go fill the other bar up?

yeah it's quite annoying, especially when you want to go red form, because chances are both bot laners are ranged, so you either delay your powerspike by 4 minutes or get it faster and lose game because bot is the only lane that matters

Honestly IDK why they don't take a % of the timer away based on how many souls you collected. That seems like such an obvious thing to do. You spend 6-12 minutes farming your main powerspike, if you whacked more of one than the other up until the very end that should be rewarded.

They should change it in my opinion. Change it to two bars instead of one, each representing SA Kayn and Rhaast, that fill independently of one another.

Technically, if every lane is ranged, it's usually a squishier team, since most tanks are melee (if not all of them). Hence, blue Kayn will serve you well enough.

This is the trick of playing Kayn. You have to assess what the team needs, and then apply yourself to the lanes where you get the appropriate essence.

i don't think you should be able to fill the blue bar and turn red, but i do however think the lockout should be half the time it is, or if you can fill the other bar before the lockout would expire then you can just go to the other form. That's kind of how i originally expected it to be.

the lanes with melee always shove them under the turret so I can't get my hands on tasty, tasty Rhaast

Theoretically, you're getting the form that compliments your playstyle. If you're ganking Top or Mid (where most melee characters are), you're usually going up against bruisers and assassins who need you to have that extra CC and tankiness and %HP damage to deal with them. Thus, if you're aggressively camping those types of characters, that's why Rhaast is the first one to unlock for you, and will probably benefit you more in the game you're playing.

The flipside is also true. If you're ganking bot a lot, as well as the mid lane mages, that means you're valuing taking out the carries more than the front liners, which is why Shadow Kayn will fit your playstyle better. If their other lanes are also more composed of ranged units, this is also good for Shadow because that means an assassin playstyle will do better than a tankier one against those foes.

There are a mild few exceptions of course (Graves, Jayce, Urgot), but for the most part, if you're getting more of one color due to how you're ganking, I believe that the corresponding form will compliment your style of play better for that game.

Because RNG is taking over League. Gotta deal with it.

Dorans Pants2/13/2018, 12:39:49 AM2 votes

that would be the obvious and reasonable way of handling it....but riot hates obvious and reasonable.

Imo they should just buff "normal" Kayn for a bit, he's really trashy (feels like well, half a champion) and nerf both his transformations

What if Kayn was viable for the entire game ? :o

Colgate Gator2/13/2018, 3:44:10 PM1 votes

I wish Kayn's passive had a lot more clarity, both for how much you need to gather in order to fill up and the difference between forms.

Jackom12/13/2018, 4:39:45 PM1 votes

If it were possible to choose the transformation every game, Kyan would become a balancing nightmare. If he is pretty balanced right now (at least has a 50% or so winrate) it's in good part BECAUSE his playstyle DEPENDS on the enemy team's composition. If you don't like that part, then you should try another champion.

TotalJerk2/13/2018, 4:50:33 PM1 votes

Because whether you feel it should work that way or not, they want you to go with the transformation you got first for thematic reasons. Honestly I think they should just throw the whole goddamn essence system out and make him get his transformation a different way.

LordGeovanni2/14/2018, 3:55:04 AM1 votes

Because kayn is designed behind you getting the spike for who your are punishing and who allows you to punish them. Base Kayn is not a bad champion just because His transformations are so much better.

HaIlMonitor2/14/2018, 4:49:30 AM1 votes

I always thought what it should be is a little slower but you can pick either. That was people can do what they want, but wont get the "perfect" choice at 10.

FurriesAreHot2/14/2018, 1:37:17 PM1 votes

It promotes making potentially poor early ganking choices (melee/range) in order to get your very powerful spike.
