And re balance all 3 for their specific purpose:
Ghost blade: Chase down targets, have move speed and attack speed again (Medium cool down) Dusk blade: for a big one off assassination ( Long cool down) Edge of Night: Smart engages for reaching enemy back line. (Medium cool down)
You may only purchase one. This make's Assassins feel good about having to make a unique choice for each game, without worrying about everyone abusing all 3 items at once.

Especially since, as you said, it gives Assassins game-to-game decision making tools based on what type of Assassin they want to, or need to be.

Not really. Lethality is going to be the first thing that your going to build. They can't be Agile by focusing around an items that is pretty much built first.
It also means that Assassins (and quite possibly the ADC's abusing Lethality) and going to be balance around a one item spike. That leaves also no variation in the power curve, and make Assassin extremely strong in the early game.

The current problem is that stacking all 3 items is too strong, however each item individually would be ok-ish. And only buying one of these items isn't enough, while buying all 3 is too strong. Quite a balancing problem indeed.
