[POLL] Give each role their own ladder?
Greetings, I just want to discuss this wild idea I've had. While I'm not in favor of dynamic queue, I it's pretty obvious that Riot will not go back to the (good) old days but will instead try to fix it anyother way. This discussion is not about that, however, but about adding something that has been made possible because of the new champion select.
Since we lost the 5v5 ladder and Riot seems to be pushing us into roles by having us select them in advance, it seems reasonable to me to have the ladder split up into 5. This doesn't mean that the queue get split up, but you will have a different division and different MMR for each role in ranked. This means that you can be diamond at top, platinum at support and unranked at the rest. When you queue up as top / support, the matchmaking will use your top MMR for top and your support MMR for support, which is something that I don't expect to cause any technical issues. Your highest rank is the one displayed and the one that you'll get end of season rewards for.
That's the idea, but...
Pro's:
- You no longer feel forced to play your best role whenever you go into ranked.
- You can more clearly see how well you perform with each role compared to others.
- Matches can actually become more balanced because your MMR will represent your skill with that role rather than general skill.
- It will be easier to identify the role of challenger players, compare different challengers that play the same role and follow them.
Con's:
- It will take more games to reach your true MMR if the algorithm stays the same.
- People may ruin games intentionally when they're not playing on their highest tier role.
- If it doesn't work out, it may be difficult to change back.
To be honest, I'm somewhere in the middle. I really like the pros, but the cons seem pretty important aswell. Mainly the toxicity might be a huge factor that would keep Riot from attempting this. So, what do you think? Would it be a good idea? Do the pros outweigh the cons? Are there ways to diminish the cons? Is there better way? Or is the current ladder just better?
