I've just been collecting masteries on champions until now, but I feel like I can play enough champions in my role decently enough to start trying to pick the best one for the situation. Trouble is, I have no idea how to do that. Any tips?

Does your team lack ANY form of engage and are not a poke/sieging comp? Again, consider .
Does the enemy team have lots of CC (or do you have mainly only one carry)? Maybe

, then pick to eat the targeted ally.
Find strengths/weaknesses of BOTH team comps and try to synergize (or counter) it. You can also pick for lane (all-in lane if enemy adc is immobile, sustain for hard matchup, poke if they have melee support / short range adc). 
+ for binding into trap combo. 
/ + to trap them after hooked. E denies etc. can lantern allies to safety who are immobile or are tanky but CC'd. Thresh can Flay away divers like

AlienPrimate2 votesIt is really easy to counter pick in support. I know from my many games of experience on Taric that he does very well against:
poorly against:
average against the rest
If the enemy picks Janna and Sivir, I know probably don't want to be playing Taric.
