Aatrox does really bad in this teamfighting/tank heavy meta right now, but I do agree that he does need some attention. If he get's any buffs though, he might be toxic to lane against. He has to be gated in the early game as he has the BEST in lane sustain in the earliest parts of the game AND he has a revive passive, but his kit is absolutely terrible for teamfights if he is not absolutely fed. He is completely AA dependent and he is really only good at split pushing later in the game, but right now, he is just outclassed at any job he is trying to do by other fighter champions. Sadly, I think he needs a rework to make him a more dynamic champion to play as and against, but he is nowhere near the highest priority in champion reworks as Taric, Poppy, Yorick, and Urgot are all waiting for their own reworks.

I don't think buffs would be appropriate for the Darkin Blade. I feel like he doesn't have room to get buffs without being overbearing to lane against. The only thing I see is if Riot made him less of a solo lane dominating/splitpushing champion, and turned him into a more teamfight oriented fighter if he is to do well in this meta, and I don't see that happening anytime soon, as that would imply at least a small scale rework, which the balance team/ champion update team (whoever would be in charge of this project) probably doesn't have much time for.

I will upvote you and I do agree that he needs something, but sadly, I don't think that anything is going to happen soon for Aatrox. He's actually not that bad in solo queue as he is a very strong split pusher, and many people don't know how to deal with a champion who can mindlessly push lanes and towers at lower tiers of play. He really just involves being played in a different way than most top laners to be very effective (jungle is a little different, and I don't really like it, personally). I would recommend not taking TP if you are going top Aatrox as he really can't affect team fights and skirmishes as well as other top laners (he still can, so if you are unsure of your laning ability, it is probably still worth it to take TP). As an aside, you absolutely have to win lane if you are taking an offensive summoner over TP, but it shouldn't be that difficult with someone like Aatrox.

I hope you luck in your future games, and I hope you have fun. Sorry if I was a bummer. Peace.

I completely agree with this. One of the main problems with Aatrox is that his kit is pretty feast-or-famine, and his stats and abilities make him either impossible to kill as he outdamages his opponents, or unable to sustain himself as his damage falls off heavily. His kit also has a lot of problems in lane, with his sustain especially making it difficult to kick him out unless you can zone him completely away from your minions.

On top of this, I think a big problem comes from his power being diluted through various effects: he has two different attack speed steroids, for example, which means neither can really feel as strong as they could, and his revive passive, which is good against burst, conflicts with his healing, which is good against DPS, which is why there's no clear way of dealing with him if he gets ahead. His ult is also pretty uninteresting, and doesn't really bring any kind of a unique contribution (which is a shame, seeing how Aatrox's lore describes him as a war god capable of sending armies into a bloodthirsty frenzy), nor does it help Aatrox himself that much. There's currently a lot on his kit that feels suboptimal, and he needs to have his mechanics retooled in order to shine.

he needs a FULL REWORK or at least buff him by getting rid of the hp cost on his abilities

the more hp he loses on his abilities, the more his bloodwell charges up............. ok so the squishy champ gets more attack speed for injuring himself o_0 he is a sustain fighter so why can't he charge his bloodwell by sustaining himself with his W heal or lifesteal ? right no, his kit just doesn't make any sense, its so contradictory to his lore and everything else about him Q_Q

in the lore he inspires armies on the brink of defeat and turns them unstoppable, make his ult give have half the buff he gets to his allies as well, that would make him useful in team fights even if he hides behind everyone

maybe his Q could convert the hp cost into a shield after hitting the ground which absorbs incoming damage equal to a multiplier of the hp cost, minimum 2.5

also off topic question

what does his abilities scale off of ? and what are his ratios ?

Some other guy had a similar post so I'll just copy and paste what I said and I'll let you decide. I think that his passive needs a passive. What Riot could do is NOT nerf anything he currently has, and change the name of his passive from Blood Well to this: Darkin' warrior of blood Insert current passive Second passive: Enemies that deal damage to Aatrox before Blood Well is used are marked with a dark figure, when Aatrox revives any champion within 650 range becomes feared for .5 of a second, and are marked with "Tap", "Taped' champions have their blood drained with any damage dealt from Aatrox. When a enemies blood is drained they lose 3/6/9/12 Magic Resist and Armor (Regular values. Not %) stacking up to 4 times. Tapped target does not become untapped unless they do not take damage from aatrox for 3 seconds. " Tapped" does not proc off Liandries Torment.
"Massacre" places 3 of the 4 proca to all enemies it deals damage to. Levels 1-5 =3 5-8=6 8-11=9 11-18=12
