aoe fear isnt realy required but he totaly needs to be tweaked

especialy the infinite sustain, it causes too much of bad interactions like when aatrox is fed and you cant kill him in any wa possible or when he isnt fed and he doesnt get to sustain at all

and ult fitting his theme

besides that he is fine (but what im listing are kinda core things to him)

An AOE Fear would be pushing him into the direction of a tank (he already has an AOE knock-up and a slow) and while it would be a thematic change, I feel like Aatrox fits better as a fighter. I came up with a concept of an Aatrox rework over on RoG, though it's died down a bit.

i though on aatrox rework too but i never posted it thou

My rework was incorporating changing his resource from blood attained by damaging himself to stacks he gains by killing units

he would have a cap on his stacks and after reaching a certain treshold a part of his bar would be locked only for his passive (right now fighting does not hurt his passive revive in any way... i wanted to preserwe that)

q and e would remain unchanged but they would cost those stacks instead

w would be a toggle, that causes aatrox to both heal and deal additional damage with every auto but would consume stacks every time he attacks

and for his ult i though of something a bit more artistic than a simple aoe buff

you press the ability and it begins charging like vi's q after you release you create an area around you that is covered in blood (everybody loves blood ... blood everywhere)
the size of the area and the cost of the skil is dependant on the channel lenght while standing on the field your allies gain increased movement speed and increased damage (to impersonate the fury aatrox inspired in the soldiers) while you stand in the field your slowly regain a certain portion of blood you used to cast it (you slowly bathe in blood ... dont forget the rubber ducky)

basicaly aaatrox is a demon (darkin) who feeds the blood of his enemies to his sword, i think that his playstyle should be driven by collecting and expending blood

Sounds kind of cool. I remember that their design philosophy with Aatrox was something like they wanted a melee who constantly has to balance his HP and his health costs. Essentially, they wanted your HP to be constantly fluctuating because of high HP costs and high sustain. Apparently it wasn't accomplished very well (and I imagine it would be hard to do so).

infinite healing is a problem and constant paying with hp means that you need to constantly refill it somehow

maybe if he would heal a % of his missing hp (instead of a flat amount) it would work

then he would be able to stay at certain level of hp that would allow him to function while not being able to simply face tank everything without droping low

there can be also an added cap he cant heal past to with this mechanic, so he would sustain to certain extent

this would also discourage the full offense all lifesteal builds, since bigger amount of hp and the stat he will scale with will be more effective (unless the numbers will be terribad) combined with hp and tankyness

that is also a realy good thing, becuase right now aatrox needs to itemize barely any stat he finds besides ap and crit(armor, magic res, lifesteal, cdr is realy good, atack speed, ad movement speed, and some arpen is also needed) so 6 items slots isnt enough, taking some pressure away from that need to itemize for everything would make him feel more understandable and players wouldnt find him so demanding to play (i found it realy frustrating when i wanted to get randuins butthen i would lack sustain, and my skills would cost more etc etc, every item has a sewere drawback on him)

its a realy hard topic, you have to make a champion who lives by both hurting and healing himself freaking masochist

I'm glad you mentioned this. I've been looking at Aatrox threads thinking what the hell are these people smoking saying he's weak?... You hit the nail on the head. He is one of the most unstoppable fed carries in the game but also quite easy to oppress into uselessness. JG Aatrox is where I see him carry the most.

I hope they buff him a bit. But... dont buff him to much because his kit can be very broken.

I think Aatrox might be one of the hardest guys to balance because he depends simultaneously on a lot of stats and on auto-attacks and lifestealing, which are too good when they're alright and awful when they're anything under.

I had a game as Aatrox where in the end I was 28/1. I jumped on the enemy Xin, my third autoattack did 600 bonus damage and destroyed him. They couldn't do anything.

But I also had games as Aatrox where I didn't get 3 kills within the first 7 minutes and I was left completely useless to split push or afk farm my jungle because I had no way to 1v1 anyone of them.

thats the curse of infinite sustain you can be either unkillable, or just dont be, there is little in the way of middle ground

Schlachsahne761 votes

But you can get ahead with champs like Yi, or Kata more easily. He is just not worth to play. What he can do can others do better. And thats his problem, he is not a Tank, not a duelist and not an assasin. His early game is super weak. You need to farm super safe and there are many top lane champs who counter Aatrox pretty hard (Jax, Teemo, Fiora, Darius, Renekton...). I suggest a rework to give him more personality and to match his lore. Or just buff him...

He is my favorite champ but he is not really a high risk, high reward champion. He is high risk, MAYBE high reward champion. Aatrox item 3070

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cULN76uExQI he was played in LCS Unicorns of Love vs Elements | S5 EU LCS Spring 2015 Week 1 Day 2 | UOL vs EL W1D2G5

that means no buffs?

Schlachsahne761 votes

So... Just because he was played ONE time he is in a good spot? Did you watch this match? Aatrox was just there he was not really useful.

Maybe make his q unstoppable, passive revive amount scale someway with %hp, His w heal scale with missing %hp and the damage with current %hp? Just an idea

Nightmist Dark1 votes

yep, his Q needs to be immune to CC while he travels.

Knight SoIaire 1 votes

but no other dash is immune to cc besides some ults

while it might be frustrating to get stopped mid flight, it adds some deegre of player interaction that can be impactfull, makes the gameplay a little more colorfull

if something would need a change it would be the speed and placement of aatrox in certain parts of a dash

first he is ascending then he dives in he could cover less distance while ascending and he could dive faster

then this skill would have a certain specific feel to it that would make it unique among simple dashes and well that skill kinda feels like aatrox, elegant and deadly

TwoD1 votes

he already is like Maliken and was taken after the hero itself, just copy the fucking ult and take this champ out of the dusty ass shelf

Machaggis1 votes

Aoe fear could be added to his passive as he respawns wouldn't be game breaking if it's not super long.

That kind of ult belongs on something like an offtank much like how Hecarim has one. The problem is that Aatrox is more of a melee carry bruiser/a tankier tryndamere. No champ like that should be the initiator of the team in my opinion. I'm fine if this ult was implemented and he was reworked to be an actual drain tank, but that just isn't the case with him.

His problems: he kills himself, if he uses abilities; typical melee adc problems - kiting, getting CCed = no dmg, no healing; squishy; useless, if behind; his CC is bad; needs items; falls off lategame; gets bursted, even if he builds tanky. Good - his laning phase is good (sustain, manaless poke, dash to avoid ganks), but not the greatest. There are champions that can build full tank and outdamage him any time: Like the Broken Irelia, Darius, Jax, Maokai, Hecarim, Diana, Gnar. His dmg is crap, he needs LW, but can't afford to sacrifice an item slot, because he is squishy as fk!!! He is overshadowed...
