We forget how hard the game is
I came across an actually new player in a low gold game (he had few games played) and he'd be called an inter by the community but he was actually trying. He was just really bad and didn't play the game for years like most of us. He had 30 cs at 10 and died several times to Zed. His match history was basically all 1/7/2 types of KDAs with awful cs and generally 10% win rates. He was getting absolutely destroyed and because there are so many smurfs, it's hard to find totally new players to match him with.
I don't really want League dumbed down because then it becomes much worse to play for experienced players (most of the player base) but holy shit this game is hard as hell. When you factor in all the strategy, positioning, macro, timings, the 140 some champs with multiple abilities and kit interactions, it's a wonder any of us understand the game at all. Playing League to a Plat level for a totally new player would probably take as much effort as several years of schooling. We all say how everyone is bad and so on but actually, relative to someone trying to pick up the game, we're really damn good and it's actually scary because I don't know how a new player could stick to such a hard game without getting too discouraged.
