Winrate doesnt mean everything.

Look at the play rate.

If you disagree, just know that makes Galio a top 15 champion. (13th highest winrate but 1.8% popularity)

Aatrox has a higher winrate than TahmKench (but aatrox has a 0.9% popularity which is probably dedicated mains)

Popularity matters far more than win rate imo.

but then you have Jinx and she has a massive amount of both. (23% popularity 53% winrate)

Youre right. But you know what DOES mean something? A high winrate with a high pickrate.

Combined, they show problems. a LOT of problems.

and thus Jinx was born forged by stalin and satan ( Teemo ) himself

Spizzle90001 votes

Does this mean Jinx is a filthy commie?

Vistha Kai1 votes

No, she's actually a nazist.

And popularity doesn't mean a champion is broken either, just saying.

it be lìke that7 votes

it doesnt, but it implies it more heavily than lets say a champion who is picked every 60 games but has a 80% winrate, (such as morde in master+)

Astôlfo1 votes

Eh, high winrate (without other factors) just signals perception of strength/fun-level to play (as in how flashy)/how popular they are in LCS/etc (aka, people trying to imitate streamers/LCS players).

it be lìke that4 votes

to an extent yes, but fotm almost always indicates strength.

Astôlfo1 votes

That's usually because "fotm" picks are both high winrate and playrate.

it be lìke that1 votes

yeah but what came first? the chicken or the egg?

Astôlfo8 votes

The egg actually did because each successive generation of the chicken's ancestors would have gotten closer, but at that moment of change, an almost-chicken would have to give birth to the chicken egg.

underscores2221 votes

The egg. Dinosaurs existed way before what we know as chickens did.

Vistha Kai2 votes

FotM usually are not high winrate.

And even more than playrate, look at average games played. That tells you a lot. Sure, Jinx can have a 23% popularity, but her win rate doesn't take a huge hit since she also is #3 in terms of playerbase's average games played. So it's not like it's a bunch of people playing her for the first time.

When you want to look at something OP, look at Kog. He has the highest win rate, despite having literally the lowest average games played. So you'll look at it and say, "well he has a high win rate but is ranked 13/17 in terms of popularity, so it's probably only Kog mains playing him. that means only mains play him so his winrate is going to be higher." I'll look at him and say, "he has the highest win rate, yet people that play Kog are less experienced with him than people who play any other ADC. Meaning that the average person that plays Kog literally has no mastery of the champion." I mean, about 62% of people that play Kog have less than 15 games played with him. Jinx has about 23% of players with less than 15 games played. So her win rate should theoretically be higher.

Just something else to think about. But yes, I agree that Jinx needs nerfed.

6thSagePath1 votes

jinx should have a lower win rate with this theory. think about it, if everyone wants to play jinx, that means people who are bad at adc, or just learning her, are more likely to lose, but pick her because she is so popular. i use to main jinx, and even when i played against people who were okay with her. i could use any adc to mop the floor with her because i knew her so well. so that being said people who dont know her so well verse somebody who does, would lose in the end.

No Yellow Norco1 votes

I'm confused by what you mean. Why should Jinx have a lower winrate? Her playerbase average games played is relatively high, meaning that players are not just playing their first game or two with Jinx. What I'm telling you is that because her games played is higher, it's not people just learning to play her. The majority of Jinx players have a good amount of experience on her.

6thSagePath1 votes

just cause the play base is high does not mean that you win with her. i could suck at jinx but love playing her and lose 20 games straight cause im not skilled with her. does that help some? i higher place rate means that more people are playing her, not more experienced people with skills play her.

look at urgot's winrate in challenger and master elo. That's enough to prove your point.

I never thought I'd see this but...

URGOT OP??!?!?!

WATTTTTTTTT

Fondling Gems1 votes

Urgot isn't OP but he is a strong champ. He was an lcs pick a while back and his only nerf was his shield and passive iirc. His ult actually got buffed. He only fell off in lcs after people learned how to deal with him.

In fact Urgot's itemization got some major buffs since then too. I don't play him frequently but when I do I tend to win hard.

GULAG 4 U1 votes

I knew he wasn't shit, but come on, Urgot OP?

Fondling Gems1 votes

He does have a very high dps and great tanking ability. I wouldn't call him OP but he isn't far off.

I tend to get a kda of about 5 on him, which is pretty damn high.

it be lìke that1 votes

i wouldnt call him "op" since he is pretty feast or famine, but when the feast is there, its bad news bears.

there are maybe 3 champs that tilt me harder than a fed urgot

thats Fizz Akali Illaoi

fizz for obvious reasons, akali because hurrdurrr look at me press r to my penta kill and illaoi just is impossible to 1v1 if she is far ahead.

Winrates mean shit, let's be honest.

Marshbouy1 votes

Winrates are a lot better than "well in this one game they felt op"

Spizzle90001 votes

I definitely get what you're saying, but then there's Vladimir with one of the lowest winrates in the game atm and his popularity is below average.

rito pls don't kill my main in cold blood like this

Hehehe. . . puns.

But for real, I understand that Vlad was ridiculous in pro play but why the hell should 99.999% of a champion's playerbase be fucked with simply because there are like 150 Korean guys who abuse him?

420 grams1 votes

I thought this was going to be about that the game is about fun, and not just winning.

I was wrong.

SaltyKracka1 votes

If we're being perfectly honest, once a playrate reaches 2-3%, it's pretty damn safe to assume that winrate reflects strength.

Sure, low playrate high winrate can be misleading, but there aren't actually that many instances of it happening in the first place.

Generally when going for winrate x pickrate, I do this:

  1. Champion has very high winrate, but very low pick rate? This means that a champion is either balanced (but only played by dedicated mains), or potentially sleeper OP

  2. Champion has very high winrate, but low (still higher than very low) pick rate? Probably broken. Needs to be nerfed.

  3. Champion has very high winrate, but decent pickrate or higher? This champion is likely to get hotfixed (with nerfs) by Riot.

  4. Champion has high winrate but very low pick rate? Definitively balanced. Peharps it is a champion that is difficult to master and is not very popular, but a dedicated main can still make him work.

  5. Champion has high winrate but low pick rate? Probably balanced

  6. Champion has high winrate but decent pick rate? Maybe it is balanced, maybe not. It may need small nerfs to put it into a balanced state.

  7. Champion has high winrate and high pick rate? Very likely to be broken

  8. Champion has low winrate (or lower) but very low pick rate? Straight-up non-viable in that role

  9. Champion has low winrate and low pick rate? This champion is likely to be weak. It may need a buff. However, oftentimes it is a champion that is difficult to master, but when mastered it has a high or very high winrate. In this case this champion does not need buffs.

  10. Champion has low winrate but decent pick rate or higher? It is likely that this champion is just popular, and because it is very fun to play, people play him despite this champion being not very strong. It may or may not need buffs. Buffing a champion like this is risky because they are likely to become broken.

  11. Champion has a very low winrate (think of something like 38%) but does NOT have a very low pick rate? Likely to be hotfixed (with buffs) by Riot.

Anything else is probably balanced.

Let's be perfectly honest here. She's the ideal low elo ADC. Good scaling, good sieging, good teamfighting. Her hardest mechanic is kiting, and positioning. If i was silver 4, i'd be spamming Annie, Warwick, Janna. Because when you weigh in a lot more of the population it becomes reality that these champs are much easier for the average silver 4 to do well on over things like Riven, Vayne or GP.

Weigh in the MMRS: http://na.op.gg/statistics/champion/ 52% winrate. Look at the common ones. http://na.op.gg/statistics/champion/ if you go plat+ More champions gain winrates. even then, easy champions are strong. i wouldn't say plat+ is a great indicator of balance being plat 2.

I think people are just over reacting. Food for thought.

Canastus1 votes

However a high win- AND pickrate (like Jinx currently, for example) is a clear indicator of a champion being broken or flatout overpowered.
