Concept: Potion Slot?
Just a concept thought here, but what if, similar to the dedicated ward item slot there was a dedicated consumable slot? It would require a few coding changes, changes to the HUD, and most likely some changes to the way potions work at the moment, but with Itemization being a hot topic, I'm wondering if people thought this'd be a good way to 'open a space' as it were. (As an aside, it works out fairly well and balanced in Diablo 3).
Related changes:
Health Potion
- Recover 150 hp over 15 secs. Only one potion can be active at a time. Unlimited uses (due to the no longer stackable affect). 150 gold. ('Biscuit' mastery remains unchanged here.)
Refillable Potion
- Renamed Healing Tonic - Restores 100 hp and 100 mana over 15 secs. Only one potion can be active at a time. Unlimited uses. 150 gold. ('Biscuit' mastery changed to add 50 hp and 50 mana immediately, and 90 hp and 90 mana over 15 secs.)
Corrupting Potion
- As current, unlimited uses, 500 gold OR 350 gold builds out of Healing Tonic.
Hunter's Potion
- As current, refreshes on large monster or champion kill. 500 gold or 350 gold builds of Health Potion.
(Cannot purchase until level 9)
Elixir of Iron
- As current, unlimited uses, CD increase to 5 min. 750 gold or 500 gold builds out of Hunter's Potion.
Elixir of Sorcery
- As current, unlimited uses, CD increase to 5 min. 750 gold or 500 gold builds out of Corrupting Potion.
Elixir of Wrath
- As current, unlimited uses, CD increase to 5 min. 750 gold or 500 gold builds out of Hunter's Potion.
(NEW) Elixir of Will
- Grants +25 Magic Penetration and +25 Armor penetration for 3 mins, unlimited uses, CD 5 mins. 750 gold or 500 gold builds out of Corrupting Potion.
Maybe some numbers changes needed, but I think you get the general idea.
Downsides:
- lose 'stackable' potion healing
- Unable to have more than one potion at a time (but really who build's a hunter's potion and a corrupting potion at the same time? and who still has their hunter's potion or corrupting potion so late in the game that they have an elixir active and it's still in their inventory?)
- more initial cost for basic health potion to make it reusable
Upsides:
- no loss of item slot to have a health potion
- upgrades available already are useful for every champ in the game, potentially more able to be introduced
