How do you qualify who your "main" is?

My most played champion is Gnar, and while he will always have a special place in my heart, playing top lane makes me want to die, so I decided to drop top lane and switch to mid/jg for season 7. While I was playing champions to put in my champ pool, I came to the conclusion that my best mid laners are Ekko and Xerath, and since I enjoy playing Ekko a lot, I decided to "main" Ekko for Season 7 (Vi for Jungle in case anyone cares). However, I have about 5 times as many games played as Gnar than I do with Ekko, so am I still a Gnar main, or am I an Ekko main? I'm confused.

Just basically who you played the most, as well as who you play the most currently, like for me my alltime main is Morgana since I still love playing her.

Can you still consider yourself a "main" of a champion, even if you haven't used them in a really long time? Back from Seasons 4 and 5, I played Morgana (almost exclusively), both as a Mid Laner and a Support. Sometimes, even Top Lane, if I was feeling the desire. (Of course, this was only done in Norms, so that I wouldn't be a bother to everyone else in Ranked.)

However, although I still play her from time-to-time, she hasn't been played quite as often as other Champions in my pool. But I still love playing her more than any other Champion I own (despite me playing Nami, quite a lot, lately). Could I still consider myself a Morgana main, in that case? OP has me really curious, now, as to what constitutes a "main".

I would still call her a main, you can have more than one I feel at least. If you know the ins and outs, and are good then yeah. I just view main as someone you are very good at. Like I can play say a Zed alright, but I truly shine on Ziggs, I may play GP kinda well, but I truly shine on Garen. The later ones would be mains.

Makes sense. Good to know I can still call myself a Morg main, since I love her so much. :D

I consider "main" to describe the current state of events rather than events overall, so if you are currently playing most games as Ekko then that would be what I consider a main.

On the other hand, "main" can refer to your dedication to the skill needed for that champion.

For example myself and Naut. I would consider Naut my main as I have played so much I know the in's and out's of all his moves. Played him top, support, jungle and hey, I even had fun during the ap mage naut phase.

I may not play him every single game ever, but by knowing exactly how to use them they could be considered a Main.

Edit: Been consistently playing Naut since his release.

Maybe your main is just the most played champ over a month. For instance, I main Nid, but now main Kindred this month

Do you MAINLY play Ekko now, or do you MAINLY play Gnar? I've always considered a main someone who you prefer to play the most. Plus if you said you mained Vi jungle, Ekko mid, you can always say you main Gnar in top.

it dont matter... play the champs you like and have fun

In my mind, I qualify it as whichever champ you've dedicated the most time to and have the highest mastery with. Mine is Teemo.

You can have multiple mains. Even though that sounds kinda like an oxymoron, like my name.
