Quick PSA regarding tomorrow's PBE update

Malicious Metal··183 votes·38,658 views

It's the preseason patch.

Yes, things are going to be bizarre, weird, out of this world, somewhat scary at first and we all know how humans feel about change. Yes, things might seem broken, overpowered or outright unbalanceable. Yes, it does screw with League's balance, a lot in fact.

But you know what? It's fine, it's all going to get tuned and changed, that's what the PBE during the preseason is for. There's going to be a ton of testing in those three weeks during which the patch will be on the PBE

So contain the calamity that are your mammaries and try to be civil and not burst out into flames.

It's going to be alright. Provide feedback, discuss and make your opinion known, it's all we can do and being civil is a lot better than just slinging insults.

Got that? Good.

Now the countdown to preseason begins.

Am I doing this right?

Yes.

However I'd like to remind that the patch comes at the time of Harrowing (tho for PBE). Can't imagine better Harrowing theme than 4 broken assasins, set of must-have items (by set I mean 2), set of gutted items (by set I mean 10) and pick/ban chaos.

Tell me people wouldn't be remembering the event as "horror". And that's what Harrowing is about, isn't it?

Goes on a rampage about aatrox changes and how jax is still left completely garbage and the lack of meaningful changes to rageblade

Am I allowed to?

rtbf22561824110 votes

If i was Riot, at this point i would remove Rylai from the game just to piss you off for spamming this every day.

Malicious Metal13 votes

Well good thing you're not riot. Just some Janna main who gets annoyed by someone posting on the boards.

rtbf2256182416 votes

And you're just someone Morde main who keeps becoming the LF of Morde mains. Overconfident and overestimating of themselves.

Melledoneus8 votes

LightTrack? More like OffTrack.

rtbf2256182414 votes

Ironically, i'm quite up-to-date. Your "argument" is invalid.

Melledoneus17 votes

I said off-track, not out-of-date, so YOUR argument is...

Kassadin Null and void.

######Also, zat vas und joke.

rtbf2256182417 votes

Implying that "Off-Track" can't be interpreted as out-of-date.

Ofcourse..nice joke but i'm kinda arguing with a Boards' "celebrity" here who is a bit too full of themselves and we both know he too has fangirls protecting him most likely because gods forbid should the "Iron Revenant" stand up for himself.

Implying I'm 100% serious all the time and seriously think Morde's the absolutely best champ in the game.

Yeah. We all know you're a Mordekaiser one trick pony and are working in your secret lab to create a real Mordekaiser with Alchemy. (Might cost you an arm and a leg, though)

Melledoneus2 votes

I think you might want to check the definition of "off-track" again.

Also, please stop being such a negative nancy. Nobody likes a negative nancy.

rtbf2256182417 votes

Someone has to say the truth and you disagreeing with it doesn't make me any more doubtful about my opinions.

It's not negativity by negativity, it's simply what i perceive as truth.

Explains again that Rylai's changes are still under discussion and that we're not sure on a direction yet.

I think that's my line here?

Helpful post, many thanks, having people who've been through some pre-seasons before offer context on how they go is much appreciated. For this particular pre-season patch things will also be a little bit more work in progress than usual, since we're going to PBE 3 weeks before the patch rather than the usual 2. That means quite a few things, numbers in particular and in at least a few cases art, won't be finalized yet.

Some examples (there'll be plenty more, this isn't a comprehensive list) of things that are still being worked on a lot:

  • We've been getting reports from playtests that Talon's kit may be too weak right now. We're testing further to validate that, possible the stats that go to the PBE today will be too low however.
  • We're playing around with a reduced vision radius on the revised pink wards to assess how that affects detection of both wards/traps and camouflaged champions. That's just gone into testing recently, so it's a more experimental change than most of what's being tested for the patch.
  • Spawn times, length of warning telegraph and locations for plants are still getting iteration.
  • Krugs have a new mechanic on them (the big ones split into smaller Krugs when killed, which give separate XP/Gold). The art for that's not ready yet though, so you'll see some somewhat rough placeholder visual effects for now.
  • Honeyfruit plant doesn't have all of its visual effects ready yet
  • Etc
Blitzedlegend4 votes

Thanks for clarifying, I just have one question. Is there a possibility that the oranges shown in the honeyfruit trailer will be kept for the final build? I enjoy those visuals when they pop out.

RiotMeddler6 votes

No, we'll be going with a different theme to placeholder (the oranges). If plants work out well I could imagine us reskinning them at some point for events though in the same way minions get reskinned every so often.

Will he still have subkrug/kidkrug or this means he'll be solocamp until the split?

RiotMeddler19 votes

On death Big Krug gives gold/XP and then splits into two Medium Krugs. On death Medium Krug gives gold/XP and then splits into two Small Krugs. On death Small Krugs give gold/XP. They also die to a single auto attack from anyone.

Velzard of Koz24 votes

So I make them reproduce, create a family and then kill them all. Coolhuehuehue.

On serious note, how does this affect Ivern's passive?

RiotMeddler9 votes

Ivern sends the initial Big Krug and Medium Krug away, getting the gold/xp from those two. No split occurs. Effectively he does the camp much faster than other champs, but for a lesser reward.

Kinder4 votes

Will he still be able to get lvl 2 off of that if he starts Krugs? Or will he pushed into a more specific clear?

Joe Mana6 votes

[deleted]

RiotMeddler10 votes

It'll be 2 Medium Krugs until someone clears those.

Solidair32 votes

What is the purpose of this change if you don't mind me asking?

RiotXypherous7 votes

Actually, slight correction - spawned Krugs will actually despawn if they are left unaggro'ed for a moderate amount of time.

The position of the Krug's camp makes it out of the way for most standard jungle paths - making it a basic timesink.

Upping the raw value of the camp creates some weird issues in terms of expectations of value of each camp. Splitting was introduced as a way to further push the time sink quality of the camp while giving it proportional reward.

Naagiinii4 votes

Will this effect leashes?

Decrit3 votes

it is also intended that i clear the camp but leave up the little ones for the carry?

RiotMeddler4 votes

Ok, quick update. We'll be pushing stuff to PBE in two parts most likely. The first part (almost certainly today) will be the assassin changes, plus some item changes. Second part (maybe today, maybe tomorrow) will have the mastery changes, plants, jungle changes and some other bits and pieces.

He needed a whole new kit the first time. Attempting to modify him for bot was a waste of time. It was a weirdo experiment, Mordekaiser was just unlucky enough to be the test subject.

But rito is going to make me quit because nothing is balanced on release so im quitting forever which is really like 3 days

Cryo007 votes

Let me tell you exactly whats going to happen

There will be one in the four major assassins who will be garbage, two will be slightly over or underwhelming but otherwise fine, and one will be OMG WTF RITO.

Real talk, the next PBE may include the lux ultimate skin as well. HYPED !!!

Or every assassin is initially thought to be weak but then, like the juggernaut update, EVERY single ONE OF them is broken as sht in reality. Remember when people made fun of Skarner for getting rocks?

WoonStruck8 votes

lol I remember.

Everyone was trying to say he was weak when he was obviously strong.

Reasonable people were saying that the rocks were a stupid gimmick to force some sort of 'uniqueness' on him. Unreasonable people said he couldn't function outside of them and requested buff after buff.

Both viewpoints got melded somehow and Riot took it as "SKARNER'S WEAK AS FUCK. LET'S BUFF THE SHIT OUT OF HIM BEFORE WE SEE HOW HE'S ACTUALLY DOING."

I remember the gag after those buffs,

"Skarner's first jungle clear, is starting by the red buff without a leash, invading enemy blue, kills off the enemy jungler, then proceeds to tank their midlaners ignite, then get double kills solo. Then goes to the opposite jungle by crossing through the ENEMY'S INNER/OUTER TOWERS, making his full clear."

Literally clearing the full game really

I saw no changes to Shyvana. As far as I am concerned nothing has changed :)

Mistress Shyvana3 votes

Yep

RiotMeddler25 votes

6.23 or 6.24 might be the patch for you then. We've got some exploration into Shyvana changes underway. Bit early to talk details, looks initially promising though, with a focus on dragon form primarily (at least so far).

One evolve will still be vastly better than the rest and you pick it every time. As long as any of them remains "more damage" or "more mobility" there is never going to be a meaningful decision.

His spikes now snare people. His ult turns him untargetable for 2 seconds.

See? Now there is. And all I had to do is make the champions stupidly OP. Ohh wait... fuck, I've became CertainlyT.
