Tryndamere needs a rework WAYYYYY more than Galio does

AhmCha··132 votes·7,133 views

Galio's kit is boring sure, but it's effective and healthy game wise. Hell, it's actually pretty strong right now. Tryndamere is a genuinely toxic champion who is never not frustrating to play against. I don't want to act like I know better than Riot, but why is a perfectly functional champion getting reworked while a toxic one stays the way he is for the next year or two?

A VU is determined by more than just the gameplay involved. Galio is in sore need of new and updated visuals to his model. His spell effects got a pass not long ago, but his model is still pretty subpar to what they have nowadays.

It also might coincide with something. Riot likes to release champions and VUs alongside events (Gangplank for Burning Tides, Taric for Targon, etc). They might have a Demacia event planned and a VU of everyone's favorite Gargoyle Paladin would go well with that.

I play Trynd when the enemy team picks Yasuo top. I like beating champions with their OG versions.

It's too easy to just dismiss a champion without thinking him through or giving him a try. Heck, I've seen more than a few people on the forums here regard Aatrox as junk yet there is a master player who is proving that "Aa" works quite well as a jungler.

No it isn't. Galio is almost entirely reliant on flash cheese to be useful in teamfights. If he were perfectly functional then he would be able to garner more than a 1% pick rate.

Tryndamere's visuals aren't nearly as outdated as Galio's are. Both of them have terrible kits.

WoonStruck21 votes

Skarner

Your statement here is entirely incorrect, sorry to say. Skarner has been extremely powerful at many different times, despite having a 2% or lower pick rate since release, practically.

There are a few others that fit this bill, such as Swain or Karthus, at various points.

SpecterVonBaren11 votes

That's because his rework was an utter failure and should never have been implemented. Fucking hell I fucking hate that rework from out of nowhere despite him having a fun and strong kit already. rant rant rant

WoonStruck2 votes

Yeah, but even before the rework he was pretty damn strong at several points and never raised above 2% playrate, even when used in competitive since Hecarim simply outshone him at the time.

EROTIC RAID BOSS9 votes

idk I agree wit the op on visuals. galio's spells def look nicer than tryn's chicken shout and awkward autos.

SpecterVonBaren10 votes

Neither is played much at all but Tryndamere has a distinct identity and his kit is cohesive (Regardless of its game health...) while Galio is just a bunch of things thrown together, the only synergy his kit has with itself is entirely based on invisible stat boosts from his passive W and their interactions with his ult.

No, it doesn't really. He has 3/4 the kit of a mage, and then a passive, ult, attack range, and base stats of a tank. He's intended to combat AP champs and be the "MR tank," but Galio doesn't have anything remotely tanky about his kit that can swing team fights in his favor, other than the ult. His kit is an incohesive mess that's trying to push him in too many directions while missing the goal entirely.

Glory ln Death3 votes

Plus, his ult doesn't exactly scream "anti-mage". Maximum damage is hard to achieve with low attack speed enemies.

SpecterVonBaren7 votes

No, all you did is just say how each is useful on its own, that has nothing to do with whether it syncs well as a whole. I could give a champion Trundle's passive, Nautilus's Q, Kog's W, Veigar's E, and Tahm's ult and they'd all be useful abilities but they'd still be an incoherent mess when put together in the same kit.

Papa Andrei2 votes

You missed the entire point.

His kit is meant to be a buff/debuff teamfighting kit, with his passive, w, and ult allowing him to be tanky, but still deal damage. His W also makes it damn hard to kill a carry (100 mr and armor) Q E are meant to help his team engage and disengage, and allow him to help peel for his carries OR get to the enemy carries.

That's all there is to him really, he's useless in team fights what else is he supposed to do? All he can do is play as much of the game single player as he can Rolf.

I hate that walking RNG machine. His stupid non existent CD on his ult. Had 30% CDR on GP was ahead still Tryndamere tower dived me and i died which is OK. I used my ult he used his. And his ult was up before mine with no CDR item. People cry about Yasuo meanwhile Tryndamere gets few RNG crits and autowins the lane. Dives you at level 6 with ignite and ghost and there is nothing you can do about it.

Historically speaking the ancient equivalent of splitpushing Was the only thing barbarians and berserkers did They targeted weak settlements, ransacked those settlements, and ran before any legit army could come and kill them. It's why "barbarian" was historically used as an insult

if I had to guess, they look at tryndamere and see he has fans who really enjoy him (and I don't think hes THAT toxic, although I hate how good he and xin are at just soloing baron or taking a tower late game). galio has like, nearly 0 fans, no ones having fun with galio.

venomous frost2 votes

unless you consider splitpushing toxic, tryndamere is not a toxic champion, he has the most basic and straightforward kit there is.

Icarrus26 votes

His gameplay is toxic, usually you cannot send one person to deal with them, he constantly goes top and has such an amazingly reliable escape. So when your team fight the enemy 4v5 and they kite you around, tryndamere will be sitting top whacking your towers. Its awful. Is god awful. It makes me more uncomfortable than anything else in this game.

Big Lincoln4 votes

being strong at 1v1 isn't toxic

he's a bad design because that's the only thing he can do

WoonStruck27 votes

The way he does 1v1 is toxic.

Try to cheese with early crits. Your success rides on this. If it works, you win lane. If it doesn't, you lose.

There are some champions who can deal with him easily.

There are champions you can pick to establish dominance early on Darius

And there are champions you can use to negate him later on as well or do his job better Nasus

And there are some champs that do both Udyr

SwaggyMcGhee4203 votes

It doesn't matter what you do. If you destroy him early, he'll just farm up and push top all game, killing people 1v1 if they try to stop him alone, or pulling tons of pressure then just using e and ult to escape. If he wins early, against someone like Nasus, he'll continue to snowball and carry with his lead.

Actually it does matter.

Darius can transition into a hilariously strong teamfighter who, if fed, is one of the only champions left in the game that can straight up solo carry a game early, especially if he only has to deal with four champs.

A half decent nasus should never die to tryndamere, wither is a bitch starting at level one. After sheen nasus wins every time. With stormraiders he walks up to tryndamere, Qs him for a big ass chunk and runs away. If tryndamere tries to chase aither, another Q and continue laughing backwards. Later game as the stacks pile on I've seen tryndameres sometime fail to ult because they dont realize nasus can one shot them at around half hp.

SwaggyMcGhee4202 votes

Darius can be easily kited if he doesn't have ghost, which means he has to either sacrifice flash or teleport, either of which make him easier to deal with for Tryndamere.

Nasus is one of Tryndamere's counters, and he can kind of manage him early and mid game. Late game he can't 1v1 him, though, and Tryndamere is a lot better late game.

Nasus destroys Tryndamere 1v1 late game. It's not even close. Wither is too powerful against Tryndamere.

SwaggyMcGhee4202 votes

Not against crits, lifesteal and LDR/Mortal Reminder. If they're both fully built and Nasus doesn't have an insane amount of stacks, Tryn will only need half his attack speed to win the 1v1.

Read Tychus' post.

Nasus can Q Trynd once, force his ult, back off with stormraiders after withering Tryndamere, then come back in and one or two shot him.

He can also frankly probably just stat-check him.

SwaggyMcGhee4202 votes

1 q isn't enough to force his ult unless he has an insane amount of stacks, like 1000+. Tryn can also follow Nasus when he runs away when he procs stormraiders with his e and w.

Are you insane?

Nasus's max level wither is unbearable for tryndamere, and all nasus has to do is Q tryndamere for a guaranteed stormraiders proc late game which allows him to disengage whether tryndamere likes it or not (mocking shout won't slow down nasus all that much with stormraiders).

Nasus's main form of damage late game is his stacks, which mocking shout's ad debuff doesn't affect AT ALL.

Nasus's Q is spammableand unimportant. Whereas undying rage can really fuck up a champion like darius who is reliant on his dunk to kill, nasus can just recast his Q over and over and over.

Nasus can half health tryndamere in a single E/Q while building almost pure tank, tryndamere has to build full carry to chunk nasus hard.

Tryndamere's trading is reliant on auto attacking 50 times with a bunch of AS, which, as said earlier, wither really fucks up. Nasus's trading is reliant on a single Q. Nasus can live with LITERALLY a single auto attack for a trade, tryndamere cannot do the same.

Nasus's turret destruction scales infinitely, tryndamere's doesn't.

Both have defensive ultimates, though nasus's not only lasts longer but also gets more and more powerful the longer it's active.

Nasus's sustain scales up to 20% lifesteal for his autos and his Q which also infinitely scales. Tryndamere's sustain is noticeably inferior and removes his rage when used.

Feel free to add me if you think tryndamere beats nasus, the premier anti-AA-champ duelist, late game.

We'll both farm to 6 items, I'll probably have around 500-600 stacks to simulate a somewhat rougher early game (although I could simulate a relatively easier early game and have around 700-900 stacks).

We'll duel and you'll see what it devolves into. Nasus Qs tryndamere and backs off for two seconds before activating his second Q and forcing tryndamere to either ult super early or just outright die.

It removes less than half of his attack speed, and that's it. Stormraiders alone won't allow him to disengage from Tryn because of Tryn's e.

Nasus's main form of damage late game is his stacks, which mocking shout's ad debuff doesn't affect AT ALL.

It still removes 80 ad, which is a lot of his base AD.

Nasus's Q is spammable and unimportant. Whereas undying rage can really fuck up a champion like darius who is reliant on his dunk to kill, nasus can just recast his Q over and over and over.

It keeps him alive for an extra five seconds, which equals a lot of damage.

Nasus can half health tryndamere in a single E/Q while building almost pure tank, tryndamere has to build full carry to chunk nasus hard.

One defensive item is all he usually builds anyways.

This is why Tryn forces longer trades with his e and w.

Nasus's turret destruction scales infinitely, tryndamere's doesn't.

It doesn't really matter when both can take towers so quickly late game.

Both have defensive ultimates, though nasus's not only lasts longer but also gets more and more powerful the longer it's active.

They're not really comparable.

Nasus's sustain scales up to 20% lifesteal for his autos and his Q which also infinitely scales. Tryndamere's sustain is noticeably inferior and removes his rage when used.

Tryndamere builds lifesteal, though.
