Shen small-scale Rework suggestion & Solving his pro-play boogyman issue
According to what happened in Season 6 LCS, it's clear that Riot believes Shen has his share of problems. Many believe that nerfing his Q was a step in the wrong direction and it hurt the progress made towards promoting NewShen's niche. It is clear that his problems have not been addressed, so I personally believe that a small Shyvana-tier champion update can be given to Shen to great success.
I personally believe that his Q not being reverted should be a huge cause for concern. During his update Riot made his Q vital for the functionality of his kit and is required for him to accomplish his new tank-fighter fighter niche. No changes need to be made outside of reverting the nerf however, it was fine as it was! If it was down to me I would personally:
-
Revert the Shen Q nerf. It failed to address the problem of Shen's kit that made him a problem for the LCS and was careless.
-
Remove the shield from his ultimate, or lower it drastically. I believe this could be a step in the right direction towards balancing his biggest issues while cementing the type of gameplay that the rest of his kit promotes. By focusing on his ability to accompany allies in making plays, Shen's ultimate can be just as effective and a lot healthier for the game while not promoting the safe, uninteractive gameplay he no longer has.
-
Apply a small-scale rework to his ultimate. If the removal of Shen's ally-shield makes him bland and ineffective, I propose a somewhat ambitious change: Keep the same functionality, but allow Shen's ultimate to empower him. This would be done with or without the teleport component of his ultimate, allowing him to have direct access to his empowered Q, one free cast of his E, and unlimited Energy for a short period of time. This will be a healthy manner of making Shen a much more interesting and effective champion and it would be lovely to give him something that can give him powerful play-making potential and can ultimately accomplish the "ninja" feel he has always lacked.
Thank you for reading, feel free to tell me what you think about this change. I know that Shen players like him for different reasons so tell me if you think it might alienate his fanbase.
