Oblivion Orb should give Grievous wounds instead of M.Pen

In most cases players take Oblivion Orb because its a good item for laning with the M.Pen and not necessarily be interested in the Grievous Wounds provided by item 3165. Additionally, Its absurd how the other classes have item 3123 for 800g and item 3076 for 1000g yet AP champs have to spend 3000g to get the same effect making it much more difficult for them to adapt when facing champs with good healing. Swapping the M.Pen of Oblivion Orb for GW and dropping its price to 1200g or 1300g would make it so AP champions pick this up when they really need to reduce healing instead of picking it up because its a good damage option. There's already enough damage options. Give AP champions reasonable GW option comparable to the other classes.

Keep in mind that item 3165 would not be changed at all. The final item would still have M.Pen and its price would not change

Three reasons why this hasn’t and shouldn’t happen.

One - Many mages typically apply their damage at a much further range than other champions whether it’s through long range skillshots, damage over time abilities, or something similar. Liandry’s Torment itself greatly increases the duration, and thus the value, of the Grievous Wounds debuff. Luden’s Echo increases the ease by which the debuff is applied, particularly to multiple or elusive targets. By comparison, most AD champions cannot regularly apply physical damage outside of a typical marksman’s autoattack range, and several possess even lower range. Tanks require being autoattacked to apply Grievous Wounds for only a second, which is easily played around by many champions and only counters lifesteal during trades.

Two - Sustain is meant to counter poke but lose to all-ins. Most mages possess powerful poke tools, which their laning revolves around. Giving early access to constant Grievous Wounds removes this intended weakness.

Three - Most mages build Morellonomicon as a second or third item anyway, since flat pen is so strong and the item is more slot-efficient than Oblivion Orb. It probably is more gold-efficient too, but I’m too lazy to check. Anyway, this means that most mages will assuredly have Grievous Wounds at some point in the mid game, which follows Point Two by letting sustain counter poke during the lane phase while partially negating this single advantage as more damage items are built.

Lol it should definitely not!

I mean I wouldn't want this because i'm a mid laner (mage mainly) xD but thinking about this I think it would still be good to get early anyway because there are some extremely healers like DrMundo Akali then there's just some healing but can be a pain in the butt like Nasus Singed Fiora

just a few examples but anyway I'm sure they won't do this any time soon unless a lot of people ask for it.

That would be a big nerf to mages I'm all for it

I think maybe a new AP item component should be made for the other side that gives GW

or put in half magic pen with grevious wounds in oblivion orb then earn the rest of the magic pen when item is complete.

Vlad is one reason why it shouldn't work the way you mention.

He works by out healing mages mana pools.

If mages get easy access to grevious wounds, this niche of his is gone.

I have an idea! Add crit dmg reduction to item 3157, make the armor 50 again, and remove the CDR.

There's so much CDR.

Have you ever listened to Hashinshin?

He basically Lists most of the things wrong with mage items

Also, Bramble vest (And to extension Thornmail) Is a tank's Bruiser-be-gone Item, making it almost impossible for us to do our jobs

I'm not sure if a mage actually wants to spend about 1400 more just to get a flat magic penetration and moderate AP. Instead, they could just reach for a Void staff The goal of getting oblivion orb is to get that extra juicy 15 magic penetration when most of the ennmies don't have as much magic resist.

Yes it should. Ignore everyone that tries to justify otherwise. Under NO circumstances should mages not have the same option as other classes (then again mages as a whole lack any sustain of any kind while the rest get some but whatever, riot just hates mages).
