What are your thoughts on a "Swarm Host"-styled ability?

Azir's "minion-mancer" style is really cool, but one thing I've always wanted to see in League is a Champion who emphasizes "Zerging" an enemy. As in, spawning dozens (if not hundreds) of little ankle-biters that will overrun an enemy position if their breeder is not killed. That would be really cool, IMO.

In relation to that, I have a prototype for an ultimate ability that said "Zerging" Champion could use. Keep in mind, this is just a quick brainstorming. Take it with a grain of salt.

Infestation
(Toggle) Mark a target location. Every second, you spawn 1/2/3 Broodlings that will attack toward your marked location. These Broodlings cannot be targeted, but attack at melee range, do not cause unit collision, cannot attack structures, and expire after 3-5 seconds. Costs mana every second while toggled on; upkeep cost increases every second. Broodlings perish if you are killed.

Think of this like a Starcraft 2 Swarm Host on steroids. You can walk around with this on, constantly popping out minions that will overrun your enemies if they don't kill you quickly.

Any thoughts?

I think with Azir, Riot proved they learned their lesson that area denial is not fun for anybody involved. Heimer could use some attention for that reason. That being said, I like the idea of this, but only if the mana cost was high enough that it caused difficult decisions. As in, "Do I keep the swarm here and be so mana-drained I can't escape, or do I stay passive and save the swarm to use defensively?". That would provide counterplay, instead of what we have with our turret-loving yordle friend here.

I envision that first choice would not be available in the first place; such a "Swarm Host" Champion would lack mobility to begin with.

That said, yes, the mana drain would be enough that it would force you to be choosey about when to go ham with it. Kinda like Swain. Use it too much and you mana-burn yourself, leaving you a sitting duck.
