Why is Invisible Mode not a thing?

Mafia LeBlanc··61 votes·10,604 views

I have people on my list who are friends, but are by no means the best players in League. Sure, sometimes it's cool to play a silly game in normals once in a while, and pick a champ I'm new with, but usually I like to play ranked games, and try my best with my favorite champs. I'm not really a frequent player of ARAM particularly either, and I get invited to these somewhat frequently too.

I don't want people to be messaging me asking to play when I just want to play some rankeds. It gets people upset when you have to make an excuse every time they message you.

It would be very convenient to have a toggle Invisible mode so I don't get spammed with invites and messages when all I want to do is play some ranked solo's. I don't want to remove people off my list, I just want a way to play alone without damaging relationships.

It should be extremely easy to add this - Invis mode has been a part of online gaming since its inception. Why do we in 2015 not have this in such a social game?

Read as "invisible morde" and thought you were crazy until I started reading the body.

On topic, I completely agree that invis mode should be a thing. In fact it's silly that we still don't have the option.

I also read it as "invisible morde" and then I thought, why not give Morde some sort of stealth mechanic? Not a long one but something like Wukong's stealth where is gives him a little time to reposition? Actually doesn't seem like too bad a thing to add to him since he has no cc or mobility.

Or better: a Do Not Disturb mode

Here I am to save the day.

Go here:

C:\Riot Games\League of Legends\RADS\projects\lol_air_client_config_na\releases\0.0.0.55\deploy

Open the file called "lol" in notepad.

Change "xmpp_server_url=chat.na2.lol.riotgames.com"

To "xmpp_server_url="

Pros:

You'll be invisible.

Cons:

You cannot chat in champion select. But you can chat in game.

Kinda helpful I suppose.. but considering he wants to do ranked not being able to chat in champ select is a pretty big drawback...

I'm fine without 'Passive-Aggressive Mode' =P

Excuse you. There is nothing passive-aggressive about wanting privacy and not wanting to have to ask for it every time. If you don't feel like chatting and just want to play at your own pace, it's a counter-intuitive pain in the ass to have to say so.

The "=P" was your clue that I was being facetious.

However...I really do have to disagree. "of or denoting a type of behavior or personality characterized by indirect resistance to the demands of others and an avoidance of direct confrontation, as in procrastinating, pouting, or misplacing important materials"

Being invisible so you don't have to tell people your (quite reasonable) preference to go without them is kind of the definition of that word. At the very least, there is something passive-aggressive about it.

=P

Woops. I think I came across more harshly than I intended. Can't take myself completely seriously when I'm saying something like "excuse you", but this is only text, so...I'm sorry about that. As for the definition, really? I was thinking it was more like...

"denoting or pertaining to a personality type or behavior marked by the expression of negative emotions in passive, indirect ways, as through manipulation or noncooperation"

Leaving angry notes for your roommate even though you have regular opportunities to speak is passive-aggressive. Avoiding people, though, is not, IMO. At least, I don't think wanting "me time" is a particularly negative emotion, such as might be classified as aggression expressed passively.

I'm not saying the 'me time' is PA, just the part where you avoid people. But, yeah, I meant it in a tongue in cheek manner. Anyone that's really a friend will respect your decisions. Also, for the record, I ignored your point to say something I thought was funny.

Even ICQ (that's what mommies and daddies used to talk on the internet a long time ago) had invis mode. Maybe most people won't use it, but it doesn't seem like anything that hard to do, and it certainly doesn't really change the game itself at all. Good luck!

Why does league have to compensate for your failure in a social confrontation with others?

I know somebody who did this, but I can't truly figure out how and I don't feel like asking him.(Probably a third party software)

It wouldnt work because they could check your Match history in the client and find out that you are in invisible mode and try to avoid your friends and if invisible mode applies to the match history too, then they could check your mach history at third party sites.

That would involve them bothering to check on my profile - the invis mode would block all those auto-invites that people tend to spam, or friends of friends send. This is true in every other online game as well - people can easily use other means to see if you really are offline or not, but most aren't going to bother. and will just invite/msg the next guy on their friend list. Either way, at least give us the option, that would be nice.

If they feel so entitled to your time that they're stalking you, that's a different problem.

The Bíg Ticket1 votes

Why not tell them you want to play ranked? Don't see why they couldn't accept that.

You could go with my strategy:

Step 1, get invited to a game. Decline. Step 2, move on with whatever you were doing.

Alternative scenario:

Step 1, 'Friend' starts a chat, "Hey man you want to play a duo game?" Step 2, reply with, "Nope."

Just kidding. I don't have friends, these are strategies I think of when leaning against the wall of my showing sobbing.

Sometimes my friends want to play but I tell them I am busy doing hw or something but after an hour or so of studying and making good progress I feel like i deserve a break and want to play a match. Invisible mode would let me do that without my friends being like OHHH THOUGHT YOU WERE DOING HW and spamming me invites. It has nothing to do with being passive aggressive or anti social. The fact is most online social mediums have an invisible mode because people would like to have the privacy of being able to withhold whether or not they are online.

I saw a thread earlier in which a rioter was discussing some of the kinks that needed to be worked out before an invisible mode could be added. I would really appreciate if this feature was added in soon!

BUMMMMP Riot why is this not a thing yet? Almost every game out there has this.
