Galio Buffs - Welcome, but more is needed to make him useful!

Nice to see Galio getting a slight buff. This won't improve his abysmal play rate or really have an influence on his usefulness in games, though. No, to do that, he needs a change to his ultimate.

His R (Idol of Durand) needs changing. Before, QSS was the go-to item to counter Galio, and that was okay, because it ended up taking an item slot on your carry. Now, with it building into Mercurial Scimitar for the last three years, it's made that trade-off largely ineffectual and not even purpose-built.

Ultimate changes:

  • A person cannot remove the taunt debuff by means of QSS or Cleanse. At all.
  • Cannot be interrupted.

This would simply be giving Galio a quality of life update that he really needs. It would certainly bring him back into the meta, after a very long time out. He doesn't need any number tweaks. The high mana costs are necessary to prevent him from spamming skills and completely stomping his lane (be it mid or bot) early game.

It's possible that this would overload his ultimate and cause a lack of counter play. If both changes are too much, perhaps the prevention of the debuff being removed could be left out. Or, Tenacity could have an effect on reducing the debuff's duration again. However, it's the ability to be interrupted that currently causes Galio's ultimate to have too much counter play. It doesn't even make sense! He turns into a statue. How are you supposed to distract a statue? I see no reason why, given how antiquated his kit is, his ultimate can't receive this buff.

i never played galio before and i always thought he wasnt good enough. But after playing him recently i think he can be very useful. if you play against an AP mid hes very useful due to his passive. His ult is great for flashing into a teamfight and ulting.

As a Galio player, i think people just dont understand how to use/build him to want to play him, which is funny to me... But soon it wont matter, as of Patch 6.9 Galio will no longer be playable to me, changing his core item (item 3174 ) into a support item, will eaither make him a new Support, or unplayable

Galio actually has a strong winrate, buffing him haphazardly would be a mistake and not actually fix his problems.

He needs a rework and Riot plans to eventually give him one, but that takes time.

First buff to Galio I'd suggest: the ultimate can't be interrupted by on-hit CC. It would feel so much better to know you're not gonna interrupt your own ultimate by landing it on their Xin/Blitz/Udyr/etc.

Galio is one of the last few underappreciated champions left. Most don't understand his potential, or how to play with him on their team. I'm nervous about any buffs or changes on him, because Riot only seems to know how to break or make something broken. (OP) They rarely seem to find that middle ground.

Galio has a small but faithful playerbase. His winrate is pretty good when you consider that fact. He already is strong, useful, and game changing under the right conditions. Most just don't get that about the golem. I honesty would rather he stay ignored than turned FotM and ruined like so many before him.
