What is it with people's terrible bans?

I don't understand it. They will ban Garen or Annie but leave open champs like Yasuo Illaoi CamilleKatarina . I've even seen a Teemo ban. Just a few examples but I hope you get the picture. Anyway, what's the deal? Why leave open op cheese champs?

It's something called

B R O N Z E

a lot of these players are relatively new, and panic ban rather than learn what's good and what isn't.

Maybe they don't mind fighting champions. Personally I never have a reason to ban Illaoi. The only time I have ever run into trouble vs one was an Illaoi main who had mastery 7 and actually changed their name to include Illaoi. The rest of the time she isn't an issue for me. On the other hand what if I feel like playing Nasus? I might ban out Teemo so I don't have to deal with him (Personally don't mind the matchup but it is a decent example)

They might have trouble at dealing with Annie support, and would rather not have to see them. Maybe they just got crushed by a Garen and don't want to deal with it. Maybe they are like me, I don't really care about bans. I ban lee because I find him annoying, if he is already banned then I don't really have anything else to ban because I don't care what I lane vs. Generally I will go Yasuo/Vayne ban because I don't trust my team to know how to deal with them but personally it doesn't really matter.

Well they are learning.

Also FWIW, pretty much every ban looks terrible to someone else. Me as a Mid/Top laner for instance would never ban Yasuo , Katarina or Camille as they all have kits that are pretty easy to outplay. Enemies picking that is freelo. Also I would only ban Illaoi if I couldn't pick Trynd or Camille or Fiora or Nasus and it is pretty unlikely that all 4 of those get picked or banned so probably not banning Illaoi either.

I ban Yasuo because even though I counter him in lane as Leblanc , he CS's too well and scales exponentially into late game and is just a huge pain in the ass to deal with regardless of how much I shut him down. I also hate having him on my team because it means that we now are down a tank if I go Leblanc and top goes Yasuo . I just don't like him in my games, as an ally or enemy. Fortunately, he's a top ban so I normally don't have to waste a ban on him, so I can use it on something that's actually hard to deal with early on like Vi andLeeSin .

Also, Camille is disgustingly overtuned, and every page with her stats on it ranks her as the #1 winrate champion atm across the board. I find her to be one of the most frustrating champions in the game between her mobility, sustain, CC, damage, and her incredibly bullshit ultimate. I get very salty if she's not banned and I have to play against her because it also means my allies seem to think that banning Zac is more important than banning one of the most BS champions that I've seen since release Vayne/Diana. Gotta love champions who have 56+% winrate by people who are first timing her, but aren't hotfixed because they're new and are generating too much $$$ to worry about silly things like game balance.

Yeah, he does scale well into late game although in this meta the late game doesn't happen near as often but he gets crazy if people feed him. I will ban him sometimes, but usually if someone else is Mid lane and they asked for it.

I also hate having him on my team usually. Usually just a feed fest.

Camille though can be dangerous but only if you don't know her kit. She has these huge 20 second weakness windows and requires her passive proc as well as landing her tiny stun skillshot (tiny as in not wide, it is quite long next to champions). Her winrate right now is only 50% top lane and less than 50% jungle.

I can see many reason for banning Zac as well though, he is like Camille only he isn't a squishbag, he can still hard CC from forever away and while he does less damage his engage is far superior.

I have been prioritizing bans of different people but I guess lately the highest bans from me are against Rengar and Hecarim. Rengar due to his dominance, especially with a tank build and Hecarim is hard for most people to handle. He can engage so often and can move across the map so fast. The type of jungler that makes my ally laners start to tilt ya know?

who i ban depends on what role im playing and what my teammates have picked

if im adc i hate gap closers cuz i dont feel my team can protect me properly so ill get rid of someone like yasou or camille

if im top ill ban out something that if i see my 1st pick is mid and they are going a champ that is most likely countered pick so ill ban a champ that makes them safer

and as jungler or support one champ i dont liek is JIHN so ill ban him fairly often

People ban for themselves. Many are not going to be banning for the streamer in Masters and picking the "correct" ban, but banning what they want. The people who argue that Annie is a better assassin than assassins are going to be banning her over Leblanc when Leblanc had a top ban rate in Diamond+ and nerfs incoming.

People ban based upon their own play.

So maybe it's just my mis-understanding then. I don't flame in game about it, but I'm definitely complaining / questioning it in my head. Makes sense though, maybe they ban depending on their match up. Just had me very curious as to some of the champs people ban. Just sucks when someone goes and picks (fill slot with op meta champ) and proceeds to stomp the match. I must say about the Kat ban, I still have yet to reach the skill level with Zed to be able to outplay her consistently. She's one of the top on my list along with Yasuo to be banned.

kat should be banned. Her damage output is way too high, and that E is annoying.

I don't want anyone on my team playing the new champs or Yasuo.

Otherwise I just ban a counter to the champ I want to play or ban if someone asks.
