A Voice to HIGH ELO players from a LOW ELO player

Every time I look and see what's hot on the boards it's always someone in gold or above complaining about adc.

What exactly makes an ADC so bad in your eyes?

All it takes is a good support player to carry them through early game and get them going.

I think it's more of a meme because the whole game currently revolves around ADCs. That's why you see a lot of attention on botlane, and a lot of champions that can deal with ADCs. Basically, the more freedom you leave the enemy ADC, the more likely it is that you'll lose the game. So everyone is playing Hecarim, Vi, Syndra, and hardcore tanks with high base damage that can easily deal with ADCs. ADCs are basically dying left and right because everyone is out to get them. So when your adc gets oneshot by that enemy full tank Poppy, it usually ends in a meme circlejerk of

adc in 2k17 lul

Aka, the problem imo isn't that ADCs are bad, but that they're too important for the team's success. That's why you read about botlanes getting first turret and then taking over the game in the same thread as someone complaining about how he feels like ADCs have no impact because they get oneshot by pretty much everything.

At least, that's my impression.

That's my impression as well.

I don't understand all the people saying ADCs are weak because it still feels like the team with the fed ADC is most likely to win, plus Vayne, Twitch and Cait are insanely strong right now and can carry games hard despite not having a particularly weak early game.

I think you've hit the nail on the head that the problem is actually that ADC players feel like they have no agency because their lane tends to be decided mostly by which team does more 4-5 man towerdives/ganks rather than the respective skill of the bot laners, which makes ADCs feel like the punching bags of the game. (Oddly, support players don't seem to be complaining that much, even though they are also getting the same lanes which are decided by group dives. Maybe the support players didn't feel that they had much agency anyway?)

Combine that with the fact that certain ADCs (such as the three aforementioned) are really strong and crowd out the other picks, so if you're not playing one of those and are playing against one, you tend to feel even more overshadowed.

(Addendum: I am not a high-ELO player.)

There isn't much viable adcs that are strong early/mid

Rely on getting a good support in solo queue? lul

Because ADCs suck ass right now. ADCs need a lot of time to scale which means theyre jack shit when games are averaging under 30 minutes. Not only that, but Riot nerfed a lot of the ADCs that were viable mid game last season. The Lethality changes also hurt build paths that were viable in the mid game.

The "late game fantasy" never happens so they're just bad. Tanks are also ridiculously strong right now which further puts them into the gutter.

Could also go into the 4-man gangbangs bot, but I feel thats a separate issue outside of the role

I don't agree, tanks aren't at all ridiculously strong, if that were true you would also see other classes having issues dealing with tanks but they don't.

It's the fact that getting hit by cc, which tanks will always prioratize dropping on ADC's opens them up to followups from other sources of damage. ADC's shouldn't be deleting tanks as quickly as anything else, they do spend practically all their gold on defenses you know. But neither should getting hit by a single cc mean you should automatically be given a death sentence even if you cleanse, flash and burn heal. Currently, it practically does and it's because damage is so extremely high across the board and because it's easier than ever to chain cc a target due to overabundant cooldown reduction meaning many champs can consistently cc isteand of having to conserve cc for key moments, a huge contrast to how league used to be.

Honestly, having mained ADC myself during season 5, I far more preferred the somehwat lower damage I did then (but then again, everything did far lower damage by comparision) but far higher survivability I enjoyed. Compared to pratically being irrelevant unless being capable of two-shotting my opponents, which honestly is just as equally retarded and bullshit.

The only thing these updates have managed to achieve is making the game far more spastic while spurring an endless arms race between defensive items, utility items and offensive items that doesn't have an end in sight.

But then again, said armsrace and unbalanced state keeps the game "fresch", so I'm almost inclined to believe it's intended.

because the game is so heavily dominated in early game right now and you can neither have a safe farm lane, nor reliably scale into the late game and still have a chance at being important.

its why were seeing ziggs and other mages (who power spike much sooner into the game) instead of traditional carries like kog or sivir, you just have to have some form of dueling power to be picked.

ADCs are by no means weak, they still pump out huge numbers, just not in the early game, and you dont matter when khazix is on your face at level 4. "and armor pen was taken away so now you have nothing."

I am a good support and I main bot lane. xD I have to rely on getting an ADC that isn't autofilled into it.

Damage creep and mages that can delete towers just as quickly if not faster all while bullying them with higher range, non existent manacosts, low cdr and mana refund mechanics have made them somewhat more redundant. ADC's do fabulous damage once they start racking up items, the problem is that so does everything else. Cdr is overabundant, so even if you do dodge some skillshots the next round will probably drop before you can even get out of range (mages tend to have higher effective range than ADCs' and have more than enough cc just lock them down and faceroll them, a potential I think should be reserved for low damage tanks with followup).

The damage creep itself ensures the assassins that don't suck balls and mages that have completed their first items can literally delete you often without even having to pop their ults. This means that peeling is less effective than ever since just 2 or 3 abilites is generally more than enough to erase a markmans health bar (think karma empowered Q shaving off 60%+ of an ADC's health bar and a Leblanc W as an example, it honestly doesn't take more than that and that's is very little).

Alas, marksmen have become more reliant than ever on supports and support items to keep them alive, which just adds to the extremes of the game. Support items wouldn't need to be as ridiculous if damage across the board wasn't so freakishly high and even then, if they are remotely behind it will generally not be enough, yet if they are ahead, it just makes the ADC and his/her support an unmovable wall that just facerolls you.

Damage creep has also made fighters have a field day picking of practically any ADC who isn't Caitlyn or Vayne because they need to be borderline broken to even work due to said damage creep (either they drop the marksman in a split second or get kited to death before they even get a chance).

Personally. I wish we could just get rid of or revert keystone system entirely, it was meant to create diverse play but all it ended up doing was covering up weaknessess for already strong champs or further enchancing their strenghts to ridiculous levels, while leaving champions that can't really utilize them as effectively in the dust. It has created a balancing nightmare ever since and the champion pool has not felt remotely balanced for one second since it's introduction.

ADC's always did and still do fabolous damage as earlier mentioned. ADC's are still fully capable of bullying the fuck out of just about anything that isn't a mage in lane, it just doesn't matter much when they are so extremely easely deleted before they can dish their high DPS out in key situations.

Currently you either suck all the way as ADC and never manage to become effective or you somehow manage to get well farmed/fed because you play one of the few adc's with the required mobility/utility/safety to take advantage of or avoid the notorious 4man bot dive - thus making your way to draintank status while face-raping your opponents with endless lifesteal and super high dps.

Something really should give. Buffing marksmen's damage will hardly solve the situation, just make the game even more extreme since champions that can NOT engage them from range or easely dive them will become even more at their mercy, while those that can will still delete them with the exact same play pattern they do currently.
