A case against the new rune system: Re-invention of the wheel?

So yeah, been really thinking about it and Riot is reinventing the wheel

Locking in your runes and masteries pre game is annoying in general, and doesn't actually add anything to the game

but full removal takes out a lot of customization of a kit and tweaking to your playstyle (Or just your laning phase in all honesty)

I mean, at this rate we might as well have a skill tree in game that we can level up with xp, but only allocate points in fountain

These new things.. they're sort of, meh. Nothing really impresses me in it, there's no theory crafting involved, very little deviation from standard fomula is allowed at all, and quite frankly I don't see how it makes you any better at the game to just pick stuff every match to the point where I'm willing to bet we'll see it being reported and complained about that people pick the wrong trees or whatever

this is going to be a mess, in all honesty.

about 140 champion, everyone has 5 skill trees to chose form and every single skill is some weird game altering thing that is ultimately a gimmick

I honestly was fine with "bro give me lifesteal runes"

why? Because I would make them work.

Hey that's a great point.

Locking in current runes is annoying and doesn't add anything to the game because it's all just base stats. With the new rune system we actually get to choose stuff.

You still can customize to your playstyle. Also, champs are getting stuff like armor/mr, hp, ad, ap, as added to their base stats to compensate according to how they are needed based on typical play in early game. Some diversity removed? Sure. But largely people were playing standard runes and masteries on champs in certain roles anyways. Plus, all those runes being removed and replaced with a smaller set of options makes it easier for new players to get a basic grasp of what to pick for different champs and situations.

Champions are getting specific numerical buffs to make up for the fact that you used to be able to chose what you could have in place of those stats (runes)

new mastery system essentially just removes runes

Make amazing and playstyle impacting decisions like the one every single adc is gonna take that makes you shoot really fast

Get to choose between 5 paths but really you only get to chose yours econdary because every champion will have 2 options that they wont get chewed out because of

oh boy

Is there some loss in diversity? Yes. Are champs going to be pushed more towards their "meta" role/build with this? Probably. Does this remove all diversity in build options for champs? Not even close.

As far as getting harassed for choosing something non-standard - that happens with current system. I don't know how many times I can play my main and get flamed for building more damage than tank - by teammates who all lost or even fed their laners and can't 1v1 while I won lane, and can 1v5 - but not tank 4 fed enemies and all their cc while my team kills no one.

If they are so dumb as to flame for "not taking free boots" or something like that - mute them. It's not even worth trying to explain the logic of why what you took is better because they are too blind, arrogant, or inexperienced to understand.

I'm confused since a VAST MAJORITY of players are Meta slaves. They will go to their OP.GG site or one of the other sites they like to check and go with the first rune page they see. I am betting if you go and ask 20 people make a ADC page give them say like make a Page for Jinx. I am betting 17/20 will have the same exact page. Gotta have those 3 for them running some random ass page(My mundo page is Money Mundo).
