Should there ever be a "two players, one Champion" mechanic like Cho'Gall in HotS?

Cho'gall - Heroes of the Storm

Cho'Gall is easily one of the most interesting heroes in Heroes of the Storm, needing two players to use him. I question whether or not this could be workable into League, as it'd introduce some really interesting mechanics.

I suspect it's not possible, however, due to the game's code. But it's still a fun idea to entertain.

All of them but 1 probably

I'd actually like Kindred to be a viable botlane champion with that mechanic. Kindred is the markswoman while Wolf is the support, both being controlled by individual players.

To make it consistent with the whole 1 entity in 2 bodies theme, I think they would have to make many special cases for them. Kindred share a health pool (not Lamb and Wolf seperated), Wolf and Lamb are not able to move more than x units away from each other, etc.

The key part here is that Kindred are still one entity... it doesn't feel right if they play like 2 completely seperated champions in the game.

I like this idea, and I also like the idea of a two-slot champion that reduces the team size to 4

No that's stupid lol. Kindred's design is way better than Chogall.

An idea I've been pitching for a long time is a mount champion (as opposed to a mounted champion). A tanky bottom lane support with an ability that allows another champ to hop onto their back and ride to glory. Damage would be split between the two of them with the mount controlling movement and the mounted character being able to use attacks and skills.

You would still get the two in one champion gameplay, but it wouldn't require two people to be on board with picking the same champ like the HotS guy.

I figure one of Demacia's Ebony Wyverns might fit the bill perfectly. Especially if the critters are smarter than mere beasts. Even Rek'Sai level intelligence would work I guess.

Riot already said no to 2 players playing one champ ill find the link later but this suggestion intrigues me and id be interested to heat more about how you would propose to balance it.

I wouldn't propose to balance it, balancing is always a process that requires extensive play-testing and iteration. But the basic concept would be an ability akin to Tahm's devour, except useful only on allies. Instead of making the mounted champ untargetable like Devour, it would instead split all damage they take between them (more damage to the mount with skill level). The mount would be able to move, use basic attacks, and use skills. The mounted ally would be able to use skills and basic attack, but they would be unable to move since they move with the mount. The ally would be able to dismount by hitting Recall to prevent trolling.

So something like-

W - For Glory! The Ebony Wyvern leaps to target ally, tossing them onto his saddle for (duration that increases with skill level). Mounted allies move with Ebony Wyvern but can not issue move commands of their own. All pre-mitigation damage they take is split evenly between them, with Ebony Wyvern taking the greater amount (55/60/65/70/75%). The mounted ally can end the duration at any time by Recalling.

im actually really down for this the only problem i can see is it would require every champ to get new animations and interactions for this concept

Yeah, it would take a fair bit of work to make it functional. I just thought it would be a really neat champion hook.

Oh im definately in agreance with you on that its an intresting hook that i hope riot will see

I would love a mount support champ.

The riding trait might have to be his passive(with a brief wind up like Quinn's ult), as it would feel bad to have to spend your first point on the skill(at least it would to me. Not to mention, how would it increase per level?). Also, as long as they are merging health pools, would their defenses be merged as in added together, or merged as in averaged? Or would only the highest amount apply? Personally, I am for taking a % of the rider's defenses and adding it to the mount. That would allow the mount to be used by all to greater effect, as a tank could jump on and make an unstoppleble juggernaut(though that could be an issue in and of itself), or an adc could go on for extra defense. Though the additional health and the mounts mr/ar would probably be enough for the defense boost. Maybe having the riding be a perma-passive on the ult to prevent the abuse in the laning phase? Having the mount have 340 ms, then gain base ms through the ult's passive would be another solution, as having an Ashe moving anywhere from 35-10 ms faster than the other adc from the start would be rather... unfair, especially with the range and the slows.

Life steal and regen would be another thing. If their health pools are merged, then are both healed by life steal, or would knights vow be necessary(speaking of which, since they are merged, would the passive be constantly on)? Are their health regens' merged and applied to both? Say if a health regen building Himerdinger rides the mount, does Himer's health regen fill their health, or does it only keep them at the min of 1/2 hp? If Soraka heals them, does it apply to the mount first, then to the rider's pool after it, Only the mount like kled, or does it heal both equally?

One thing that they probably would have to do is give the rider a "cannot move or be displaced" effect, to allow things like a Caitlyn net or a Graves ult to be used without throwing them off the mount. But it would call into question what happens when a spell that has a channel is used. Would Malzahar's ult or a Sion q(that's his slam, right?) immobilize the mount? Or would it allow for re-positioning of the skill? The first seems more balanced...

Ms would also be something to tackle. I think that 350(tied with Jax, Shiv, Spider form Elise and a few others)-360 would be a good base range(or the modified range with the passive on the ult), as this person is supposed to be a beast that would give extra mobility to those who ride it, and having it have the same ms or lower than a good number of champs would defeat the purpose thematically.

The only issue with the Damacia Wyverns is that it might step on Shivana's or Kled's toes too much. Her design is of a wyvern, what with the normal back legs and winged forelegs, and Skarl looks like how a wyvern is usually depicted, only derpier. Maybe those similarities aren't enough to block the design, but it bears consideration.

Side note: next champ was said to be a champ that works best in a duo lane, but is not a enchanter nor was specifically said to be a tank. So one can hope...

P.S. I relize that this might not be easy to read, but I wrote parts as they occurred to me. And my thoughts tend to be all over the place...

how do you make that work, i.e how do 2 players agree to that

what if I tell someone to fuck off and they lock that character anyway, am I forced to play them? because that'd be the fastest the way for me to start inting

same w/ kalista tbh

You'd have to ask a Riot or Blizzard expert that one. I was just spitballing.

no.... no... no no no.

and btw did i say "NO" yet?

snibedi snab1 votes

No, even if League's design allowed a hero like that to exist Riot aren't competent enough to make it work.
