Hey Rito, aren't you gonna ask what we like about Galio before reworking him?

AquariusGine··25 votes·4,553 views

Now, I don't play a lot of Galio but I really do love playing him.

I love his damage. He's a tank that can carry with lots of AoE damage.

I also love his ultimate So please don't do a Poppy rework on him. It would be nice if he's still the same champion, just modernized a bit.

Ye that's all. Have a good day

Galio is a hot mess. His kit is antiquated, and he's not really a tank, considering how only his ultimate gives him CC. Plus, he's melee, with a kit that doesn't support a melee playstyle, outside of his ult. There's not a lot worth preserving from his current kit, except his ult.

His ult pairs well with his W actually

Sp33d Zer014 votes

Why not put his w on his ult and then give him three abilities that make sense?

DarkRitual2 votes

Similar thing that was done with Malz's pool and ult.

dapositiveviking1 votes

because that removes the actual strategy of his w.

Sp33d Zer01 votes

Like.... clicking it on the person taking damage?

Melledoneus1 votes

What strategy? It's a point and click "Hurr durr you get resistances and I get health" button.

My problem with him is that Aatrox really fulfills the "Gargoyle/Demon" fantasy with his kit.

My problem with him is that Aatrox really fulfills the "Gargoyle/Demon" fantasy with his kit.

But there's his problem. Aatrox is like 5 years newer than Galio. Galio should have achieved that fantasy before Aatrox. That being said, Aatrox doesn't really fulfill the gargoyle fantasy. Sure in looks, but not in kit. He plays much more like a demon, so there's a lot of room for Galio to fill the gargoyle fantasy. His ult at the moment is probably the only way he fills that fantasy.

ModKnightsKemplar2 votes

Well, I think if they preserve NONE of it, they'll have made a mistake.

I hope they either keep ult or Q at the very least. EITHER. Not both.

We have player labs where we specifically target those with a ton of galio games and have them playtest the new kit fairly early into the process and write feedback about what they do and don't like, and their feedback is specifically iterated on.

For those who cannot translate this it is a nice way of saying that there are so few galio mains that posting a general galio thread would serve no purpose, it is literally easier for them to gather all the galio mains into a mid sized room with computers then it is to make a thread and dig though to see which ones are galio mains.

If he doesn't turn into an invulnerable statue when standing next to his own turret i'll be disappointed.

Does Riot do anything similar for the thematic/narrative side of things? "Galio is now X, how do you feel as someone with an attachment to Galio?"

Melledoneus2 votes

Where do I sign up and do you promise I won't wake up in an ice bath?

TheSingularity1 votes

Do you have rank requirements on these positions or are they purely based on no. Of games played on said champ?

Just curious as to ur criteria

So does this mean that members of the community can actually contribute to balance changes and design decisions if they're deemed to have enough experience with a champion?

Personally I want galio to interact with towers or something

Ok here are the things that I see about Galio: he's suppose to be a tank but the only CC he truly has is his ult, the only recognizable thing about him. So he's a mage? Well not really considering almost every mage is range and Galio is melee. In short, he's broken (not the "damage is insane OP plz nerf" kind, the "his kit doesn't fuction well if at all" kind)

I feel he needs a Sion/Poppy level rework. Most of his kit is just meh outside of his ult and possibly his shield, which in all honesty they should just have it added to his ult, and doesn't really fit together that well. He's not really in a position like Warwick to just get a modernization to his kit. Warwick's kit had a good theme: lifestealing werewolf that hunts down wounded targets and pounces on them like a horror movie. Galio on the other hand I have no idea what he's suppose to be other than a magic gargoyle who I only know for his massive AoE taunt with a Nunu ult.

Matake2 votes

But... Sion and Poppy are unrecognizable after their reworks. I admit they were good for the quality of the champion but not for keep the champion in the same realm of gameplay. I was hoping for something more gentle like an Evelynn rework.

Keep his Q the same. Change his W to something more fundamental to his ability to jungle. E needs to lose the slow and either be removed or like just please remove this shit (it's childish looking). And removing his ultimate is completely necessary to keep him competitive. I've never liked it.

I KNOW IT. A Taric-level rework.

Lexually3 votes

Who says they haven't asked? They have! And he should be reworked. He'll be AMAZING!

Attticus Finch2 votes

I wouldn't ask. His kit is so disjointed that he probably won't resemble his old self in any fashion.

EndlessSorcerer2 votes

It is probably going to be a Sion-level rework.

I don't imagine they'll be keeping much of his current kit.

Spoofghoul4 votes

they did keep some of sion's kit though

the ult became his passive, in a way the E is still there in a way the W is still there in a way the hp stacking is still around

they just added that Q which is awesome and they gave him the best ult in the game

TheOnlyJoe1 votes

Out of the 4, you added "in a way" behind 3 of them Yeah, no. That's not how it works, because that can literally be applied to everything. "Oh poppy's old Q did damage and her new Q does damage too, it's still there in a way", that's ignoring the fact the ability works entirely different now, has another purpose. other effects. Etc

Sion's passive is different, his Q, E and R are all different too

His old ult was entirely different from his current passive, AoE lifesteal, didn't require him to die, bonus AS instead of setting his AS to a fixed 1.75, no MS ability

His E? I honestly don't know how you could say his old E is still there in a way, Bonus AD at the cost of health? where do you see that in his current kit? The only thing that stayed was the HP stacking but you already mentioned that as a seperate thing

TL;DR the only thing Sion still has is his old W and his health stacking mechanic

sheldonbunny2 votes

Personally I adore his kit as is. I don't find it antiquated at all, but with all the wonderful choices Riot has made in the last year i'm sure they'll destroy him the same way they have other champs. Better to make cookie cutter kits for the masses than anything unique.

DarkRitual2 votes

Warwick Completely cookie cutter kit, right?

Ric Amer2 votes

I adore the shield and the ult. I just wish everything didn't break the ult channel.

Raven Redeemed4 votes

To be fair his ult can incapacitate a team for longer than anything I can think of (Bard's ult makes everyone invulnerable) so it should have some counter play. Yeah, I like his ult and his shield (despite how annoying it can be). Both are unique mechanics that I think are healthy for the game. I'm ok with him doing damage, but I hate how easy it is to land it (or at least how spamable it is). He does so much easy damage they have to hold him back with mana costs.

Spice POWAH1 votes

not to mention you can't screw your own team over with galio ult, the worst you can do is get yourself killed

Nameless Voice1 votes

Agreed. These are the two main things I'd want to see maintained on his kit. That, and some form of synergy with magic resistance.

Both are interesting and unique mechanics, but not unfair or oppressive in any way.

WoonStruck2 votes

I would rather him be a mage than a tank, honestly.

His mage qualities are a lot more fun than his tank qualities.

  1. Since when does player preference determine the path of a rework? Shen Yorick Rengar
TheHappyReaperz1 votes

Yorick rework was heavily influenced by the players. If you look back through the rework, you can see the parts where people talked about whether they wanted a bruiser or a necromancer. Yorick players, at the time, were pretty divided on which direction he was to be taken.

Elisheva2 votes

Yes, so now the only thing that's similar is the fact that his weapon is a shovel, and he's edgy as fuck. Not saying anything bad about the new yorick, I mean hell, I like it, but still. The extend of player preference that went into making him was, "do you want him to be melee, or mage, but we'll decide the actual kit because you can't be trusted."

I like how galio is a super mobile hyper carry with tons of options to outplay his opponents in lane.

Don't even get me started on Cass/Quinn...

SpecterVonBaren1 votes

Pretty sure they already did a long while back.

Cosmic Warper1 votes

I just think they should keep his ultimate. Everything else should go. He should fit the gargoyle theme. A stone demon that can breathe fire and attack from above.

DwarvenGiant1 votes

He almost certainly wouldn't be the generic firebreathing, spooklord-from-above gargoyle.

He will probably remain a legendary, Demacia-affiliated protector that is also a magical construct, though.

Matake1 votes

I've never liked ANYTHING about Galio. Not even his lore makes sense with all of his skills.

The only reason Galio is even playable right now is because his mana costs have been reduced. He used to be a troll pick and people would dodge if you picked him. Honestly the whole idea of Galio needs to be redone. His passive forces him to be tanky to benefit from the free AP. Right from that we can assume he's only destined as a counter pick for AP champions. But his ultimate forces people to attack him so he can deal massive damage. It's basically a rigged Nunu ultimate but is roflcountered by Udyr in bear stance (and you definitely rofl hard when you happen to be Udyr and get ulted by Galio while in bear stance).

He's got two poking skills that can help him win lane (these skills used to cost so much mana he couldn't afford to cast without being FORCED to buy mana regen). He also has a "bastion" that he can place on anyone and he gains hp when they take damage (it only heals a maximum of a certain amount after a certain number of auto attacks taken).

He's forced into doing things to be able to benefit from all of his skills. His Q can easily miss when all the champions are zooming around late game. His E doubles as a movespeed escape/chase and the whole party can benefit from it. He's basically forced at this point to max CDR so he can spam his high CD skills. Galio is extremely useless without his skills and you definitely do not feel like a guardian.

the only answer they would get would be "who is Galio?" tbh
