Anyone having a lot of one-sided matches in Ranked? No close games?

AquariusGine··134 votes·7,701 views

Is this how the MMR system works? I'm either on a winning streak where all of our lanes win or all of us lose horribly.

In the last 20 ranked games, I've only had 1 or 2 close games.

Riot please match me with people in my elo so I can try to climb, not match me against beginners or plats. (I'm silver)

Our mid lane azir, unranked, goes 0/12 Sorry first time mid guys.

Me: I have well over 1000 games and I was g2. I play every single role decently. How did I get paired with this azir?

Azir: You got paired with me for a reason man. Our MMR is similar.

Yeah....fucking horseshit.

Bronze 2- gold 5 is all the same in terms of how your team will do. Either they snowball so hard you could feed 20 kills in 20 min and still win no problem, or you could snowball your lane, do everything humanly possible (besides cheat) to help your teammates and still lose. Very few matches in these ranks are evenly balanced. I don't know if it's because some people duo to get up to their tier and suck when their duo partner isn't in game to carry them, whether most people just tilt insanely, whether it is smurfs stacked on one team, people high on drugs or drunk whenever you play with them and not drunk/high rest of time, or something else. But all these tiers are about 60-70% boosted or trolls, 20% people who actually play to their level, and the rest people who are stuck here unable to rank up because you cannot consistently carry 2-4 boosted or troll teammates enough to climb. Hell, even diamonds have posted on the board and said there are games they cannot carry their teammates in silver -- so clearly someone who should be playing in gold cannot consistently carry enough to escape silver without a lucky win streak to get to and succeed in promotion games via win streak at just the right time.

I would agree with you, however I'd also add at CS and building bronze players are trash and atleast gold players have a basic understanding of these 2 crucial game aspects. I'm not talking about off-meta, I spectated a silver 5-bronze 1 elo game and I saw vayne rush bt while malphite buys hydra as jungle.

Swarmer3 votes

well, a g3 player, could smurf thru silver to g5 in few days. And about those boosted people, its always funny, no half of the people in plat are just people who have played 1k+ games and have less that 45% win ratio, and they are actually bronzes, but rito needs to fix this free lp gifting to people like that. They get like enough lp for 1 win to compensate for 3.5 loses.

Then you're problem might be macro-gameplay or you haven't played enough games to get to your true elo, I don't know.

Here is the problem with the MMR reset in early season:

lets say you are gold 1 in S6. You did not play ranked for a bit. Then you did ranked and got rank reset and got silver 1 in S7. Silver 1 players from last season already climbed to silver 1

Now multiple you and this silver 1 player by 5.

Then it is a roll of dice to see which side has more gold 1 against silver 1.

Also match making is retarded. 3 gold in my team against 5 silver in enemy team while i am a last season gold... we are basically a whole tier above them...

ALSO autofill is retarded too. Like autofilled supports have no idea wtf to do and support mains rekt them.

On the support part

Step 1: Pick Raka step 2: ??? Step 3: Profit

Another viable option is just picking an AP carry (brand, malzahar, zyra, annie) and playing the same without taking CS

Pierce The Veal7 votes

This seems to be because the game doesn't actually try to match you against people that will yield a 50% chance of winning. It seems to be willing to go to 45%% and 55% (with some wiggle room), as long as over several games your chances are 50%. Sometimes this actually means winstreaks balanced by losestreaks.

Mhm. Agreed. Another big factor I think is forgotten is role and champion familiarity. I put fill as my position in almost every game (but promos). I will ask for ADC or MID, but sometimes get placed in support or top. While my game knowledge and mechanics as ADC are great, they are only decent in support, and are extremely lacking in top.

I sport about a 70% win rate when playing marksmen, 51% as mid, probably a 35-40% win rate as top. Support I'm decent at but probably hover around 47-49%. Jungle is so embarrassing, but my win rate there is probably 7-16%.

I used to have a 70% winrate with akali RIP. I quit for a long time and now I'm just shit overall, because I hate where the game has gone gameplay and balance wise. I just can't adapt to the emphasis on "skill" over strategy. It's like strategy is utterly dead now and it's all about who can do what the fastest.

Nonetheless, my top and mid will sport around a 55% winrate, jungle about 45%, support 35%, and adc 20%. I used to be a lot better but don't have the time, willpower, or interest to reimprove.

It's always possible to pick up the so-called "simpler" champions and go with those. Strategy is not dead as you get to higher tiers but the challenge is getting there.

As long as one is in the lower tiers (and yes, I am suffering with you), the key is to just not die too many times in the early laning stage. If you get past that then you just have to hold out to the midgame ARAM (or what I have heard some call it, "the bronze war") and cross your fingers. In the meantime, rely on some of the simpler strategies your teammates might (hopefully) recognize: poaching their buffs, taking picks, grabbing turrets and warding (!) to take advantage of their errors.

Carrying out of bronze and silver used to be easier than it is now. I'm just too lazy and the random factor turns me off. Sigh~

I really do miss the days of solo carrying games.

It's autofill. I didn't climb to gold playing support. I climbed playing top. You're asking a top laner to defend and help his adc? smh I'm a Riven player, not a charity.

A typical riven main, who got filled in supp, cant actually play his riven, but says that he can only play riven.

General Esdeath 3 votes

LOL? Who said I play Riven in support?

Snowman Arc1 votes

Really though, I can't see why it's so hard to play a decent support at low elo. I played Morgana for the first time earlier, and even though I Support with Janna like 5% of my games (so I have some knowledge), Morg felt so easy to play, at least in Gold. Like, pick any easy support, Morgana, Leona, Braum, Janna, Soraka. Buy a sightstone and Control wards, try to stay near your ADC and don't fk up. It's not that hard. As Morgana, just try to land a Q here and there, and even if you don't, you can still shield your ADC late game (or whoever needs that Shield) and root someone jumping in your team and do decent.

General Esdeath 1 votes

Doesn't matter if you play decent if the other support can outmatch you. Imagine throwing a support main vs a top lane main.

Snowman Arc1 votes

Thing is, Top lane snowballs way harder and it's a solo lane. You need to be careful to not fall behind in gold or xp, or even die, because the kill potential with the top lane champions, or at least the zoning, is much bigger. At the same time, you can pick freakin Soraka support and sit there and heal your ADC and just basic-ward the river side. Sure, you might not win the lane, but you won't fall behind either.

Again, all these, consider low elo, where most people who complain about it are.

General Esdeath 1 votes

If you're taking basic Soraka you're not having an impact like other supports. Not to mention she was nerfed and now sucks if you get all-ined. And even people in higher elo hate autofill. It's just not as bad because there's less people, who all know each other, and already have assigned main roles and trade. Go watch high elo streams. In all the games I've seen, at least 3 people swap each game.

My issue is I was stomping my way up until I hit my promos in Silver 3. I get really bad teammates, like everyone has 12+ deaths except me, like i am 11/5 or something trying to end the game basically by myself. Whatever, then it happens the next game but this time I am not fed enough to possibly carry which feels bad. OOOK Promos Helper can save me, nope. Every time I get into my promos I lose miserably, like no chance, half my team is AFK or typing vigorously about how we shld kill ourselves, sometimes both. Every once in awhile, I personally do bad, but not to the degree that my teammates do bad. I have only thrown one game (as in my mistake is the legit reason we ended up losing) and it was honestly because I was so freaking tilted with my team raging at each other, not a good excuse.

If you gave me half decent players who would actually listen to me and knew their champs, I could climb pretty quickly. The issue is that you give me god mode players sometimes then other times you give me the worst feeding raging garbage in the game. No one is ever on equal ground, its blatantly obvious too like the 2 people on one of the teams with 15+ deaths... yea they are clearly the same rank as everyone. That is why they consistently feed in their past 20 games and just happen to sometimes get carried. Perhaps these kinds of players shouldn't be put into games where people are in their promos? like on either team.

Honestly I can't tell how good I am, clearly not great since a great player wouldn't be stuck in Silver, but how good am I compared to the rest of my elo? I can't tell because one game is a stomp, was it a stomp because we outplayed them or they just sucked terribly? Did I lose because my team is just garbage, or did we get legit outplayed?

Mr Urgod2 votes

Oh goddamn I have the same fucking issue. Like legit, if my teammates just stopped and listened, instead of continuing to play with ignorance and arrogance, we could've won so many games. I hate noobs that refuse to listen cause they think they are "better than that" or some shit

Stephenizgod3 votes

The main problem here is that in previous seasons it was possible to solo carry a game fairly easily by just getting a ton of kills. You can still do that, but you need to apply pressure around the map now. This season and last season, heavily focus on teamwork, which is both good and bad. You can't make solo plays unless you are leagues above everyone else, you need to press your lead around the map instead of just curbstomping one lane into oblivion. Most players in lower elo's haven't caught onto that yet and think "gotta get kills gotta get kills" when they should be thinking "ok what objective can we take, where is the enemies focus, where is our advantage".

its also something I struggle with because I don't know how to play from behind since I focus heavily on pushing down turrets and not so much on 5v5 ARAM in mid lane. So I am obviously part of the reason we lose, I just feel like my focus is better. Except for lately because I have been in continuous tilt and really shouldn't have played...

Your games will progressively get harder as you do better in game, quite frankly if your stomping on the teams you were being matched with you will progressively be matched against higher skilled players that make the game more competitive. The system works to match you where there is a 50/50 chance of winning. What would be the point of the game if you always easily winning lane?

Playing against more experienced players is the only way to learn, if you "want to climb". What is the point of climbing over like-skilled players only to be at the very bottom elo of the next division and you cannot win games? So you can look in the mirror and claim that you are at the top of the worst?

If you can only win matches at a certain elo against others in your division but not progress beyond that elo, then you are most likely in the right elo and will be kept there until you improve against harder opponents.

In 2 games, one of our laners fed their opponent, and even thought the other lanes were winning, the opponent was just so far ahead. Lastly, one game our ragtag team of like 2 silvers and 3 bronzies was put against all lvl 7 mastery golds. I cri everitiem

Low gold support main,I'd guess 60-80% of my games are complete steamrolls, either fore or against.

Games when I'm behind -no items -cant do anything about turret kill speed -can't engage on tank supports because no items -peel supports basically can't help an underfed adc / stupid ADC, they'll die anyway and not do any damage

Games when I'm ahead

  • I might finish one extra item before the game is over
  • Stilll can't contribute to turret kill speed other than standing by my adc and zoning
  • 1/2 the time my engage doesn't matter because enemy team is dead before my Nautilus ult finishes
  • Peel supports don't need to peel and can be offensive with peel spells / shields

Overall I'd give my game quality 4/10.

Stomping feels shitty because you don't have time / items to contribute to a hugely fed teammate. They are going to kill stuff regardless of how well you CC / peel / engage.

Getting stomped also feels shitty because you don't have time / items to do anything to slow down a hugely fed opponent. They are going to kill stuff regardless of how well you CC / peel / engage.....

:( :( :( :(

As a support main I understand what you mean but that is looking at late game. As support I believe you have one of the biggest impacts early game.

Roaming mid at right times can get mid fed Warding enemy jungle/dragon Positioning team around dragon to get early dragons Map awareness and talking on where enemy jungle is Be aggressive against bot lane forcing them to miss CS

Even warding at correct times can me the difference between kills and deaths and those little things can steamroll a game so late game is a breeze.

If as a support you are waiting until late game to do work then you have already lost.

This is only true if you don't have shit teams who wont follow up on anything.

Had two games last night where my lanes fed hard (like the enemy could have ended it at 20m while both our nexus turrets were down), still won them because we caught them making mistakes.

That's how it works now. You get a kill or two, get Rift Herald if you're top/jg/AD mid, 4 man bot, first tower, dragon, and by then you've probably won the game

I have a theory that instead of the MMR system placing you against "better" players as your MMR gets better, it actually just places an entire team of HORRIBLE players on your team, and if you lose "You just didn't carry hard enough". [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

I would have no problem facing an entire team of players who were an entire league above me IF I also had an equal number of players at the same skill level on my team, but apparently that's not how the game works.

I'm sick of this season already. I've already considered quitting lol, as it doesn't have the same feel to it now as before. Now it's just either you stomp or get stomped. One day you win a lot, next day you lose a lot. Not much I can do when my bot lane will have a combined 20 deaths or top gives up 18 deaths solo. Plus this I don't know if it's autofill or what, but I've had people running around like it's their first day playing lol. Can't read the map or anticipate anything for their life. I just don't get it.

The only reason they last for 20 or 30 minutes, it because you can't really push that fast, unless the whole enemy team is AFK.

Not every match can be won and sometimes it can be decided even 10 or 20 minutes before the Nexus actually explodes.

Not that I'd expect a guy who consistently ends up going 5/15 in fucking Bronze 5 to have enough game knowledge to acknowledge that.

I wonder why I consistently get 5/15 when my team are afk fapping under the fountain....

While the enemy team is always in tightly bunched groups, usually hiding in bushes for no apparent fucking reason.
