Isn't Xayah's kit basically the "telekinetic blades" fantasy, but with feathers?

Here I thought Shen was infringing on Riot's plans to rework Irelia, but I just realized that Xayah's kit is basically what they probably wanted to make Irelia do.

Not really. Xayah is a dagger-thrower/shuriken-thrower trope but with feathers (with the bonus that she can recall her throwing weapons directly to her, much like many of the designs within the trope), and not telekinetic blades.

Xayah is far more similar to a ranged-oriented Katarina than say, Irelia.

If anything, the subject of the thread should be switched from Xayah to Orianna. The latter fits the bill better.

Um....no. Because Xayah use the "telekinetic blades" as long ranged attacks. While Irelia would have some range too, she prefer to get up close & personal. Irelia would use each blade as if they were swords wielded by her mind, not bullets. Using one blade to do one thing while another blade does another thing. At least, that's how I imagine Irelia should play.

That's a really large stretch

On an unrelated note, here's a mini Irelia rework I wrote up. No numbers, though, numbers are hard.

/-/-/

R: Transcendent Blades

Transcendent Blades has no ranks, and each of Irelia's basic abilities has 6.

Active: Irelia dispatches one of her four Spirit Blades to a target location.

Irelia can retrieve a Spirit Blade by moving over it, or by targeting it with Bladesurge .

Spirit Blades have a leash range, outside of which they will instantly return to Irelia.

  • Transcendent Blades does not trigger Spellblade.

/-/-/

Q: Bladesurge

Active: Irelia dashes to target enemy or Spirit Blade. If her target is an enemy, she deals Physical Damage and applies on-hit effects.

If Bladesurge kills its target or if Irelia targeted a Spirit Blade, it refunds Mana and resets its cooldown.

/-/-/

W: Hiten Style

Passive: While Hiten Style is off cooldown and upon retrieving a Spirit Blade, Irelia's next basic attack within a brief window heals her. This healing is doubled if Irelia attacks an enemy champion.

Active: For the next few seconds, Irelia's basic attacks deal bonus True Damage and apply Hiten Style's passive heal.

Retrieving a Spirit Blade extends Hiten Style, up to a maximum duration.

/-/-/

E: Balance Breaker

Active: Irelia recalls her Spirit Blades, each one dealing Magic Damage to enemies it passes through and briefly Slowing them.

Enemies take reduced damage from subsequent blades, but any enemy struck by multiple blades is briefly Stunned instead. The stun duration increases the more blades strike them.

/-/-/

I couldn't think of any other E, which is where I began to realize that Xayah does this theme already...

I don't personally think so. Irelia is a fighter and Xayah is a marksman. You can make thematics similar without infringing on the same theme. Xayah's feathers work as tools, whereas I feel like Irelia's blades will feel more like close combat weapons used to enhance her abilities.

Irelia's kit will be a lot closer to Shen's current kit if you ask me, but it'll probably feel more complete.

I don't understand this board at all.

This thread's at +14, but every comment disagrees with my (fairly hasty) assessment.

Just find that interesting.

In my opinion i feel like Xayah is played more like Taliyah

I have no idea how you get Xayah kit with it being the telekinetic blades fantasy
