Patch Notes About Jungle Shows Riot Doesn't Understand Their Own Game State Currently

The line:

"low-MMR players pick jungle at a much lower rate than other positions—even when it's stronger than those other positions."

  1. It isn't just low mmr players picking jungle at a lower rate, it just isn't THE lowest rate, unless everything below diamond 2 is low mmr
  2. Players at all ranks and mmrs are playing Jungle less except for those in master and challenger who are simply jungle mains. Those with no realistic aspirations for pro play are sliding out of the position even up to Diamond
  3. The line that really made me go "wait what" was "even when it's stronger than those other positions". Simply put, it isn't, which is why people are playing it at a much lower rate. It not only is less strong than most positions (yes even top at times despite how much us top laners hate our Island), but it FEELS less strong than those other positions.

I get how you feel Riot, but this makes you seem incredibly out of touch with the state of the game even still right now.

Oof. This is hard to respond to... because there's a lot of nuance in your opinion, and a lot of it is jumbled up in emotion (frustration, I think?)

Regardless, I think their attempt here to address jungle was an interesting indication as to how they're dealing with it. I personally have seen the difference between a good and bad jungler scale up in importance, but I've also seen the number of good junglers decrease, and noticed that jungle seems to be one of the highest 'filled' spots, at least for me. (e.g. I get auto-filled more as jungler than any other role - it used to be support, but no longer.) And I've simultaneously noticed that jungling has felt harder and harder as time goes on. I die more often as jungler to early camps (probably due to a poor kiting-game) and find myself more and more at a loss as to how to impact my allies' laning phases. I'm partial to the theory that this is part of a huge gap between pro play and casual play (where I am solidly situated.) I say this because of years of targeted nerfs - champions who were really good at pro, but trash at low elo - champions like Elise, Kindred, Lee Sin, etc. All that said, of course, I'm also partial to the belief that this has been a recurring issue with balance in LoL for a long time in all areas of the game. And they know it. As to what elo the breaking point is for 'low elo' and 'pro' though, I don't know.

I don't know whether this is good for the game or not. I just think it's interesting. And all this (somehow) leads me to ask you more questions. I feel like you're trying to say more than you did - and I can't figure out just what it is. What do you want Riot to do? What do you think they are missing? Are there junglers you think are being neglected? What's up? I'm a casual gamer, and a game-design enthusiast - I'm super interested in what you might have to say.

Riot is incredibly out of touch right now. It has been pretty clear they have no problems with the jungle being complete garbage. They seem to think that because it’s super easy for an auto filled jg to straight up lose the game that jungle has strong impact.

Trying to shove their flashy midlane assassins into the jungle in the hopes that it improves things isn’t going to work. Why would I kneecap myself and go Zed jg instead of mid? Because I really want to be down 2 levels? Because I really want to delay my duskblade by 1000 gold? The sheer thrill of being behind in gold, level and items on the people I’m trying to assassinate? Because I’m a masochist?

The only thing JG is stronger then is support and that's only if your support isn't an ap mage in low elo lmao even a Leo will be stronger then most jgers in this elo thats really not the issue.

I'm low elo used to LOVE playing Kayn but now that I'm L4 walking into aL6 mid lane to get 100-0 in .20 secs I'mma nope

Everyone in solid elos knows that top is worst role, not the second, if not first, most influencial one.

The graph clearly suggests that low elo players select jngle role less.
