Can we lower Zed ban rate by asking how people doesn't want to deal with him?

taleofsonata··4 votes·696 views

Zed always had a high ban rate in every elo, why do people hate the existence of that champion?

For me the reason why I hate Zed is because of his Shuriken Range and that it does through minions on top of having xerath range pokes.

Too much poke for an "all-in" assassin. W / Q have virtually no cast times to them so they're incredibly easy to land, plus it's a combo with technically only two damage skills that still procs electrocute.

LB, for instance, takes time to set up her combo, it's fairly avoidable, and she's gated by mana.

Energy is a stupid mechanic honestly.

Zed needs to use his escape to poke at range like that which is extremely risky. Against good players you get punished extremely hard when w is on cd. if you miss your combo you have 0 pressure in lane. his pushing power is bad without w. his all in at 6 is bad if you miss q's, barrier stops deathmark damage at 6. stopwatch is a rune. minion materialise helps you buy armor and still be able to waveclear. his base damages are low so hes extremely gold reliant. If zed used mana he would be so unbelievably broken it wouldnt be funny; the energy mechanic means that his cooldowns are actually longer than just having the spell up. the game is full of shields and % damage reduction. and also his q base damage is so low i dont see why you could complain about it. Zed as a champion punishes bad laners which is probably why he has a high ban rate ( but in high elo he doesn't so.)

I think it's because his ult is pretty difficult to deal with, especially when W -> R closes the distance extremely easily.

That, and R makes an additional shadow, which allows Zed even more mobility, making it harder for people to catch him.

A good portion of the assassins don't exactly have mobility like that (outside of Akali) without some additional conditions attached to it, which means it is rather frustrating to deal with as a squishy.

Zed only has burst mobility. both movement spells have extremely long cooldowns. being out of position is probably why you are getting frustrated with it imo.

The OP asked why it's frustrating to play against Zed and that's basically the reason behind it. He has burst + extra mobility (that most assassins don't have) when he all ins. He is resourceless, with pretty good waveclear, as well as the ability to use his mobility skill to extend his poke to enemy champions up to 1550 units (at the cost of waiting the cooldown to come back).

Cooldowns are pretty negligible to consider when Duskblade is an core item for him, which essentially lowers it. Especially when he ain't going to burn it unless he sees an all in. If he decides to harass with it, it's only waiting a bit before it comes up again. Not much of a drawback outside seconds, as he is resourceless. Also, ult has comparable cooldown to the rest of the champion pool, so not exactly something to consider either.

Finally, W is a gap closer, which negates any good positioning a squishy may have anyways. W's range is 650 + R's range is 625 = 1275 units. But I guess I'm being out of position when I'm over 1200 units away. Mmkay. Might as well stay in the fountain, amirite?

There's nothing over powered about his gap closer because of how much counter play exists. You always know when and where he lands when he ults which means; time your CC to hit him as he lands. He also can't kill you without landing Q.

If you look right now at high elo. TwistedFate has atleast a 55% winrate against Zed . why is that? because if you get armour and juke the Q you live. if you have barrier, you live. If you have spell book, you tp back to lane if you get chunked, all the mages have good base damage aswell so you can go into resolve and take boneskin which means zed wont burst you

buying 10% cdr makes his W 20ish sec cd to 18ish. 2 seconds does not make his cool-downs "negligible"

I think you misunderstood. No one is calling your precious Zed OP. Just frustrating. As mentioned by the OP. You haven't even addressed his superior range that many squishies would love to have and can't deal with. His Q range alone is enough to make mages jealous.

You may know where he lands, but it doesn't mean your kit is equipped to deal with it when he comes barreling down your face.

Great. A counterpick that you brought up. Joy. How about the rest of the squishies that aren't counterpicks against Zed?

Also, if you force a mage back, why aren't you taking their tower? You have a better advantage over many classic mages from this alone. Force their SS and make them go back. Take their tower as a result. Get $$$. Roam to bot lane and repeat.

Also, the resourceless makes his cooldown pretty negligible because there is no drawback out of that. He can poke from 1550 units away or all in at 1275 units. If he fucks up, he can wait until the CD comes back up again. Any squishies with mana costs can't say the same.

I don't mind fighting Zed. I can deal with him 9/10 times in lane. The problem is that no matter how many times I use my missing ping, ping bot lane to be careful, or type MIA in chat, he always roams bot, gets a double kill, and that 9/10 turns into a 0. I'm almost forced to ban him when he's decent just so I don't have to deal with that.

Same reason people hate Yasuo and Zoe. He's not fun to play against and is way too good.

Khristophoros3 votes

He pokes for 75% of your health and then if that poke lands he just teleports to his shadow and fucking kills you

I wonder what's frustrating about that

You can build armour which is super effective against zed in earlygame, spell book allows you to start barrier and survive 6, and you can swap to tp if you ever get pushed out of lane. and there's much much more in the game that stops zed which is why he's almost never picked in high elo. I think theres only 2 zed mains in NA high elo which is me and LL stylish and then look at all the supports, adc, junglers and mage players there are in high elo

I'm pretty sure if building armor actually did anything you'd stop maining him.

I'm not saying he's OP but he's definitely cancer in lane and I ban him usually because I just don't wanna deal with him.

have you ever look at the damage you to do a mage who rushed item 3047 +item 3191 ? and i dont main zed because i want to, but i 1tricked him to my elo and he's only champ i can play at my highest elo if you are building armour and still dying it's because you were outplayed or out of position

Well the real issue mages face is even if the armor can reduce a significant chunk of the damage, the mage has negligible health sustain so Zed will win in the long run. The value of armor for the mage when it comes to attrition is almost nothing because of weak sustain.

Laceration1 votes

That's entirely not true. there's an abundance of sustain right now in the game you just aren't using it in a match up you struggle with. Resolve with lost wind + revitalise counters poke right now. Spell book also counters zed because you can start barrier to stay defensive and swap to tp if you get too low. the issue that mages face when against zed is whether or not they want to delay their power spike for their early armour.

None of the runes can make much of a difference if Zed actually lands his poke combo. I can deal with a few Qs here and there but if he lands his big poke it's pretty much over I have to go to base. Like I'm not gonna regen back enough to survive 10 seconds later when his skills are all back up and he decides to dive. The runes literally make no difference in that case.

Like yeah I get it, don't get hit by the full poke combo... ever. not once. Or you know, I could just ban him.

and btw part of my issue with this is that he's manaless. A lot of other mid laners have a powerful combo but every time you dodge something they've spent mana on, that's a little bit less kill pressure they're going to have later. If they land the combo many attempts later but now they're basically oom I feel like it actually made a difference that I dodged it all the other times.

Laceration1 votes

Zed does not all in after hitting 1 weq combo. Lol

The fact that he's manaless is actually better for mages. it means that his cooldowns are longer than they actually are. Also mages have infinite mana right now with how easy it is to recall and not miss anything, and manaflow band with item 3070 or item 3802 not to mention zed's poke is less impactful than a mage's. q dmg lvl 1 if you stand behind minions like you should is around 45. that's a basic attack from a mage

Laceration1 votes

his range is 900, it's super average and i dont see why anyone could complain about it. Also imagine if zed's q didn't go through targets. would it be possible to assassinate an adc lategame while the team is in a giant death ball? BTW xeraths q can go up to 1400 range and it's a 9 second cooldown lvl 1 scaling to 5 seconds maxed out. zed needs w to poke from afar and it's a 20 sec cooldown

For me the reason why I hate Zed is because of his Shuriken Range and that it does through minions on top of having xerath range pokes.

What's worse is that his Shuriken damage on both the first & the rest of the enemies gets buffed in PBE.

Zed Razor Shuriken (Q): AD ratio on first enemy hit increased from 90% to 100% AD ratio on targets beyond first increased from 54% to 60%

Bronze elo are getting their Zed fame up & high now.

What i hate about him it's the massive poke and the lack of punishment for missplay.

Poke: I rarely ban him but when i'm mid and i face one i find stupid that as ranged mage i have to be scared to farm. I'm ranged still i can't harras him cause if i enter his W range he can just bash 1/3 ( even 1/2 if i have no def items or he got the gold lead ) of my hp bar in a sec and eventually follow up with R from a safe range.

Lack of punishment: Unlike other sins his R and W give him too much forgiveness when he mess up. He can jump in and out of any situation at free will ( Same core prob of Leblanc and also the reason she will be never balanced till her W and R>W stay unchanged, imo )
