Is it normal that Bone Plating activates on Fiora when she negates damages during her Riposte?

I just played as Fiora and whenever Karthus used his ultimate, I used Fiora's E-Riposte to negate the damages. Each times Bone Plating was off cooldown, it activated despite I didn't take any damages.

Is this an intended interaction?

Bone plating applies upon being hit with an attack, not taking damage from it. Fiora is still getting hit with the spell and thusly, Bone plating procs. This is why a Morganna Q doesn't go through you and why Darius R goes on cooldown if you riposte them.
