Is it okay to only play one role?

I know you're supposed to play at least two, but trying to learn roles other than support is just not fun!

If you're a support main, I would strongly encourage you to learn ADC. I'm a support main too, but learning how to play ADC gave me a very helpful perspective on the duo lane and helped me play support better. Even if you don't plan on playing it often, it'll at least improve your support game.

And learn how to farm? The horror! It does seem like something I should really do though. Thanks for the advice!

It used to be okay to play only one role only if you were a support main because:

  1. Nobody wanted to play support. Like, ever.
  2. You weren't auto-filled in a role most times as a support main, the system was better

Now it really isn't okay to only know 1 role - especially in ranked. If you're playing ranked, you should know how each role functions and at least be capable of performing at a decent level with each role. Understanding the concept of each role with not only knowledge but also experience enables you to perform better in roles that you prefer.

From someone who only plays 1 role and a single champion the best, It's best to learn different roles and champions. Frankly if you are a support main I suggest learning top. Since they are basically the same.

You only need to learn 1. Idk who fed u that crap. Sure being amazing at 5 is awesome. But like any career you pick one skill to really work on. So one role and obe archtype like ad brusier, burst mage etc. But when the economy calls for a job change. Then you gotta learn or fail a bunch. This ga.e relates to life so much it is scary.

You can just focus on one role, but that doesn't mean that you can't be decent at other roles. Even high ranked OTPs have secondary roles. I question how viable religiously playing support without understanding the idea or at least knowing how to play other roles.

Eventually you'll play other roles and when you do, now you will be playing as if you're wood 6 especially with support since you don't do things like CSing or solo skirmishes in most cases.

  • auto fill exists and asking to play your role doesn't mean you now get it.

Imagine being a new player and playing 99% of your games in the support role, the second you step out of that role, you're going to get trashed in solo lanes against any decebt player, it's like you're a new player again. Imagine playing only tanks and now you have to play a squishy back liner.. You could only play one role religiously if you just don't care of whatever, Ops choice.

Understanding each role is a given. But playing the role he finds fun is compleatly viable. For instance tyler1 he got challenger on 1 champ only. Any others he just feeds or trolls. If he doesnt have fun then why say he needs to know. Second mid for mages like Morgana, annie, brand, velkoz, zyra, zilean, lulu, karma etc. But you honestly only need to play 1 role well. As long as you understand other roles and the game in general. But his question asks if he can. And the answer is absolutely he can 1 trick a role especially the least common role.

I can play every role except ADC pretty good, but IK this was said in another comment, knowing how to ADC as a support is good. But: if you are stubborn and only play one role, use preseason to learn another and only start playing ranked if you can play them both well. PS: Always que up mid as your second role.

While you should have a basic knowledge about all roles - specializing on a certain role is completely fine and recommended. As long as you keep your knowledge about the other roles up to date on a regular base everything's fine.

It's not mandatory, but unless you play with a team, your not guaranteed your main role. A good idea would be to learn HOW to play every role in case you get autofilled, but main whatever role you want to. I used to only own like 6 champions. 2 Supports, and 1 for every other role.

ADC is a really great role for you to learn too, especially being a support main. You get to see how your actions affect your support and what a good support does for the ADC. It's a really great learning opportunity for both roles really. Plus farming is easiest as an adc, and you'll need to learn THAT to learn either other lane.

No. You should always at least be able to be ok at other roles. Have maybe 2 or more champs for those roles as well. Like a tank jungler and maybe an assassin jungle so ur ready for more then one situation. You can even pick simple champs but just have them there just incase and at least know how they work. It'll also make u better at the game you'll have a clearer understanding of those champs and how their role works so u can account for that if you play other roles.
