How to thoroughly destroy Yasuo in lane as an immobile mage player?

AhmCha··2 votes·1,431 views

Questions in the title. He's my least favorite champion in the game and I do think he's broken and anti-fun, but no one cares so I'd rather just learn how to dick stomp him hard enough that the people playing him will stop playing him.

Basically I want to know how to beat him in lane. Outside of lane I'm fine unless he roams and gets fed, but laning against him is a nightmare. Is there a way to manipulate the minion waves so that he can't dash to me every 0.3 seconds, Q me and dash away? Can I counter his mobility through minions? How do I outfarm him when he has low CD, resourceless spells? What am I supposed to do if my other laners won't listen to me when I say, "he's headed your way, back off so I don't suffer" (Note: I don't actually say that, I just ping MIA and Back Off)? Also how do I counter-roam him when he likely has he edge on me in lane already?

Thanks in advance for desalting me against him.

The answer to your question has a lot to do with what kind of champions you play.

For the most part, crowd control really counters him heavily. You mentioned him diving on you and getting out. If he does that while you have a fairly large minion wave around you, then you cc him while he has the minion aggro he will take more damage than you might think. Again, it really matters who you are though because some champions can't afford to take this damage, and of course not every champion has cc.

Corruption Potion is also a pretty good item against him, especially if you can out range him with auto attacks, or have a fairly available poke ability.

You know. It really fuckin pisses me off when people say ''Crowd control really counters him''

Crowd control counters any fucking champion in the game.

... Your point. ... Crowd control counters him more than anyone with any form of range. Yeah, it is a pretty redundant statement, but then I gave an example of how to use it to use it to punish him for something the poster has mentioned they experience often.

Really? Zed Kassadin Fizz Jayce Kassadin Kassadin Riven Quinn

????

Why is CC ''counter yasuo'' harder than it counters any of these champs? If you're stunned you're stunned. If you're slowed you're slowed. It makes no difference bud

I never said he was the ONLY champion who was countered by cc, I just said that he is countered by cc.

You mentioned 7 of 132 champions currently in the game. Yasuo makes 8. So it sounds like you need to understand what the term, "most" means.

In fact, having mentioned only a few other champions, you actually helped to prove my point. If cc truly countered every champion equally, you would have had trouble finding specific examples of champions who are countered just as harshly by cc.

So, thanks.

Buddy. Every champion in the game is countered by CC. I dont give a shit who you are.

CCing a yasuo is just as important as CCing a garen

Lol, "buddy" I'm not arguing with you. You are right that ccing Yasuo is just 'important' as ccing other champions, but Yasuo, in most cases, is more susceptible to damage because he has no resistances (armor and/or magic resistance) or sustain built into his kit, unlike a large majority of other melee champions. Ranged champions are typically better at avoiding punishment from cc if they are able to maintain good positioning. Yasuo can not do this because he needs to dive in on his opponent in order to deal a majority of his damage, then get out to avoid taking damage.

He is countered by CC more then most champions. If I CC a Nautillus in a team fight he will usually survive the CC's duration long enough to react. Yas is squishy, unless he goes tank build, so CCing him really makes it hard for him to survive.

Olaf would like a word my good sir.

Uh, except some champions don't really give a shit if they get CC'd, while others that are usually the squishy damage dealers will get instantly mauled to death if they get hit with CC. Soooo....

My preferred two are Orianna and Twisted Fate. If those two aren't working out for me I go for Xerath, Lux, or Malzahar. Lux and Malz aren't really a challenge. I've learned kind of how to win lane as Ori, but when I play TF, I just get dicked on.

Yeah, with TF, the biggest downside is that he telegraphs his gold card and his E passive pretty clearly. A good Yasuo player will bait these out and/or avoid you when they are up. So, you have to either hope you are playing against someone who doesn't know how to keep track of those, or you need to get good at knowing exactly where your gold card is and triggering the bonus damage damage from his E as quickly as possible without letting the visual show.

If you can get past this, it all comes back to using your minion waves to control the lane pressure.

As I mentioned in one of my other comments earlier, Yasuo doesn't have any resistances (armor and magic resist) or sustain built into his kit, so he has to get these from items. If he is not building either of these, you can focus on a sustain build, play safe, and just out last him.

Unfortunately, he is pretty unbalanced at the moment. The plus side is that Riot is aware of this and has said that they are going to do something about it.

His E does damage and marks each target he dashes through for several seconds for which he cannot dash through them again. His E also automatically puts him directly behind each target he dashes through. Combined with that, his Q, his AoE E-Q combo, and his tornado, he can push lanes fairly fast.

A few things you can do is:

  1. If you see him begin to use a dash animation, aim behind the target direction he's going for to hit him. Learning the timing is just a practice/'get the feel for it' kind of thing.
  2. If he's dumb and bad, like most Yasuo players are, they'll just push the lane more or less as fast as they can, meaning they'll quickly run out of targets they can dash through.
  3. If you like immobile mages, I'd pick someone with either a fairly simple targeted-based kit to nullify the problems with his dash and/or someone without a lot of projectiles (aka, windwall).

Since you mentioned immobile mages, I'm guessing this is for mid. Annie is one of his hardest counters since she can just point click Q him, or if his windwall is up, just instantly ult and murder him. Malzahar is also good because his Malefic Visions and Voidlings poke/harass is incredibly good, and Yasuo's windwall can't really do shit about literally anything in his kit (You can just Q behind the windwall, voidlings just walk through it, Visions is just point-and-click, and Nether Grasp isn't a projectile). Lissandra with her instant point and click CC and her ult can be good too, to deny him or make ganks more effective by just locking him down instantly. I like playing Veigar against him because if he's not careful, he'll dash straight into the cage. You'll have to learn to time it though so he doesn't dash through before the animation finishes and the cage actually forms. And once you farm enough, you can just instantly delete him before the stun's even over, meaning him trying to windwall your Q or R really isn't an issue. Q/W/R all have travel times so if you really hate the windwall and don't think your reactions are fast enough, you can just do Q-R and then E, which should still chunk him if not outright kill him depending on how much AP you have. Apparently Vel'Koz hard counters him but I don't really see how that works. Anivia is listed as another hard counter, and her icewall, along with her near instantaneous R-E poke once she hits level 6 should be decent as long as you can bait out his windwall with a Q or such first. Brand/Viktor/Morgana/Orianna are listed as counters too, and that's because most of them can just flat-out ignore his windwall (Brand's fire pillar/point and click, Morgana's cursed ground thing, Orianna's kit in general) or can counter him in one way or another (Morgana's Black Shield effectively denies poke and his chance for knockup-ult, Brand landing a stun is almost certain death which shouldn't be that hard to do once he gets Rylai's for a slow, Viktor's stunfield combo, and Orianna's kit in general to just constantly long-range poke him).

His E also automatically puts him directly behind each target he dashes through.

I agree with most of your post, but I just want to point out that his dash is a fixed range. In many cases it will place him behind you when he is casting it from max range, but if he is right on top of you he will actually dash past you.

Otherwise though, good points.

First assess your elo,

Ill address your point on counter-roaming first, have you ever watched a bukkake porn video? I have, it was pretty nasty. But you know how the guys all come on the chick's face? Enough to gross you out? Thats what you have to do. you need to take the ping button, and Ping danger in both the lanes and the jungle rather than the MIA, that makes a sound like a pin dropping, and notifies your lane only.

Go ahead and take that ping button and baby, ping all over your team mates face.

Now, as an immobile mage. Im thinking, like Veigar Anivia Annie Viktor . Yeah unfortunately youre screwed. You can deal with him by poking, staying away from your minion wave, and farming under tower, which brings me back to,

What I said early on, what elo are you? Because if youre bronze-diamond, your jungler is probably too fuckin boosted to even notice yasuo is pushed to your tower with almost no escape. (This is something yasuo does, he has good wave clear).

Yasuo gets 100% crit of 2 items, so he can build to counter you all the way to the very end. And still deal damage, Then for most of the immobile mages, he has a windwall, and a single deflect every few seconds. Ontop of that he heals like crazy since he is an AD champion.

So the moral of the story is, ban yasuo.

Spicy Rice1 votes

You kidding me? Most of them can go even, if not destroy yasuo if played properly.

The trick is to get used to freezing your wave outside your tower. Many people who play mages are used to trying to push as hard as possible against their oppoenents to get an advantage, but against yasuo, you would be digging your own grave.

If you get used to letting him push early on, and slowly poke him, you can easily kill him by yourself.

Also, people always forget this, but ask your jungler for help. This is a team game, so don't be afraid to ask for help. (And dont expect help if you can't/won't freeze the wave to setup for ganks. It's your job to prepare and have the plan to kill him, your jungler is just extra damage/hp

Swain crushes him, I love it.

Syndra has self peel.

Just heavilly back off when he gains tornado, as if he can't knock you up he has incredibly low kill potential.

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

Malzahar Lock him down. Lissandra Drink his tears. Annie Watch him cry.

Generally, targeted CC screws him over badly.

Try to avoid fighting him at level 1 and 2 since he's rather strong then in particular compared to many mages.

Autoattack him to trigger his shield before using your abilities on him to stop it from absorbing your damage.

Save any important projectiles for when he is CCed or Windwall is on cooldown.

Golden Tager X1 votes

Looks like people have mid covered, so have some top laners.

Nautilus Yasuo is not very much of a threat early without his mobility, and you completely stop that shit. Rammus Just taunt whenever he gets near you, with your w you can easily stop him from successfully outtrading you too. Olaf This is just hillarious post six, you take the champ who revolves around his knockup and make him unable to knock you up, gg. Pantheon Goes without saying. Yorick Same as Panth Gangplank Your kit as a whole deals pretty nicely with him.

lmao. good luck with that. the old malzahar used to be better against yasuo because of more point and click damage with his E. now malzahar still counters yas. but yasuo is stronger than about 90% of mage in the game. by that i mean he reks them in lane. and also. he outscales most of them because he can simply build tank items and still have 100% crit to kill them in a cpl seconds.

who shits on yasuo the hardest. azir. because of the ult. and the damage that cannot be dodged by his W. and rylais slow. i can't namy others in mid that do shit on him. he outscales zed and pretty much any assassin and you have to play under turret if your zed and just all in him later after poking his shield. which is easy but yasuo doesn't get behind even if he dies a million times.

yasuo can't fight jax or yi late game. or mid game if they are even . at all. they both can build just as tanky and deal about twice as much damage to him.

if you are playing mid against yasuo. play darius. darius mid you heard me right. he can cheese you early. but once you get tabis and some ad he can't really get close to you or even in laning if you know when to tag him with passive and all in with ghost or something u win lane and generally u shouldn't lose unless hes a lot better than you or you fight him in his minion wave.

fiora hard counters yasuo. its not even close for yasuo.

akali does. but then again if yasuo goes bruiser he beats any assassin including akali

fizz destroys yasuo. yasuo can outscale if he builds straight tank items but fizz can build tanky as well unlike most assassins and still be able to kill yasuo.

You don't. You pick barrier and hide under tower.
