Nerfing Flash?
Do you guys think it'd be a good idea to nerf flash in order to increase summoner spell diversity? Up the cd to 7 minutes and see what happens.

no no no no no. I honestly do feel like riot dug themselves In a whole with summoner spells. They cant really change them without changing the whole meta. If they nerf flash to 7 minutes everyone will use ghost. If they nerf ghost everyone will have heal and so on. Plus I feel like summoner spells are in a ok place right now, some might not be used but that's ok because if they change it they have to change most things about the game. As some would say if its not broke don't fix it
The problem is that at this point in Leagues life, Every champion is balanced around flash.
You'd need to rebalance the entire game. Flash can no longer be changed without huge redesigns.
I'd rather they buff other summoner spells to compensate. For example Cleanse is barely used. Barrier is only somewhat used. Now what if Cleanse and Barrier were combined? I'd think that'd make for a nice useful summoner spell that also wouldn't crowd out other choices and could be used in more situations than just barrier. I also think ghost kinda sucks right now tbh. I only use it in alternate game modes pretty much. The only champion I'd see actually using it is Singed because he pretty much needs movement speed, but he also builds items for move speed.
Honestly i feel the spell are a crutch in this game no one does not have flash unless it's a champ that benefits from not having it (hecraim for example) cause ghost jumps his damage. There is no real diversity and no reason not to have flash otherwise. I agree with clutch they dug themselves into a hole with that spell they need to find a way to make it so not everyone and their dad has it.
They only needed to buff the other summoner spells, so Flash actually has a contender when it comes to making choices.
I mean, why would you want Ghost which going fast still has a damn ramp-up time and is weak in earlier levels when you could go the distance and over walls instantly with Flash? Why would you want this willy Cleanse that you can literally just buy in the match in many of its varieties? Why would you want Clarity when mana cost is barely a thing anymore?
See? They only needed to buff the other Summoner's so they are actually useful, and thus will be picked accordingly.
The real problem is that Riot WANTS Flash, and so they make it that it will be mandatory every game by making the other choices outright suck and useless besides a couple niche and very niche scenarios.

The thing is, Riot and many other people are very happy with Flash being everywhere as a primary summoner spell. It creates a whole lot more more opportunity for outplay and counterplay. It gives champions with no mobility a chance to survive ganks at all and it's current cooldown is plenty of time to work around. Very clear when watching professional play and junglers.
Overall flash creates many more interesting situations and plays than without. Also pretty much every single other summoner spell gets used except for clarity. Heal is in every game. Ignite/exhaust are in every game. Teleport is in every game. Barrier has its use and so do cleanse and ghost. They are all very champion dependent or position dependent but all of them currently get used when they are situationally needed. There is plenty of diversity. If there was only one summoner spell slot I could see the problem. But if everyone has flash + another summoner spell, then the game comes with extra potential plays and outplays than without.
If you simply nerfed flash, people would still use it and there would still be minimal diversity. Maybe people take ghost a little more often, but it basically would just hurt landers and champions who need flash to survive.
