Juggernauts and Divers: Is buying more than one offensive item a noob trap on Juggernauts?

Hexs Fortune··2 votes·415 views

According to the class identities

Juggs: They are the only subclass who excel at both dealing and taking significant amounts of damage, but in turn they have a tough time closing in on targets due to their low range and extremely limited mobility.

Divers: Divers are not as durable as the tanks or juggernauts of the world, but Divers can take their fair share of punishment while bringing enough damage to be a real kill threat if left unchecked.

So according to Rito's own definition: Juggernauts should enjoy top tier damage and durability.

Divers should be able to take only a "fair share" of punishment, and only bring enough damage to be a threat if left unchecked

In game the main way this is expressed is the fact that most divers need 2 offensive items then go full tanky, and some juggs only build one.

I'm wondering if buying more than one offensive item on a Jugg is a noob trap, since you'd fall to the durability of a diver and the class definition suggests top tier damage being built into a juggernauts kit by default

It depends on the champion.

Dr. Mundo doesn't build a single damage item.

Mordekaiser often builds a few.

Dr. Mundo as a champion is based around being hard to kill and dealing damage if left unchecked.

Tanks are based around being hard to kill and being capable of disrupting the enemy if left unchecked.

Juggernauts are bulk and damage without much mobility, tanks are bulk and crowd control often with some mobility, but with low damage. Dr. Mundo is the former (though since he's deliberately undertuned his damage isn't as cray as, say, Darius).

Honestly, pure Tank items are pretty bad on Morde anyways. Most Morde players should build stuff like item 3146 item 3116 item 3151 and offensive defensive items like item 3053

Okay, so what is your point? Juggernuats do enjoy top tier damage + good durability, while Divers take and deal some damage.

I just love how they decided to do that, you know, Darius gets to do ass loads of damage while inflicting bleed and making you slower than a tortoise, then splitting your skull with an ult that resets WHEN it kills you. (That's right, not "if", WHEN it kills you) and can take TONS of damage, CAUSE THAT'S BALANCED FFS!

This might be actually fair, if, like other juggernauts, he had to actually walk into your face to do it, rather than pull you there.

Illaoi Is able to go full glass cannon, mostly when splitpushing.

Yes, I do believe that it's a noob trap. Mundo is perfectly viable without a single damage item, Darius only needs Black Cleaver, Garen enjoy Cleaver a lot but doesn't even need it. Illaoi is a bit more aggressive, and usually goes between 1.5 and 2.5 offensive items, but I'm pretty sure that she's still viable with only 1.

You'll be more consistently useful if you build less damage and more defense. Building more offense lets you snowball, but you can't consistently counts on snowballing.

Of course, there are exceptions, as always in such a complex game. I once built 3 damage items on Garen (Cleaver/Death's Dance/Ghostblade), but it was specifically because I needed to shred a stacked Nasus fast enough before he could kill my Mid/ADC with 2 Qs in team-fights. You have to adapt to the situation at hand. But as a baseline? Yeah, 1 damage item is perfectly fine.

ideally you want a mixture of damage and hp with resistances. but if you get ahead and they cant kill you anyways... get more damage... if you are behind and find yourself being hurt by the enemy get more defense

what champ are you more curious about build wise ?

Depends on what you think a damage item is.

A Juggernaut can easily get away with building item 3071 with a item 3053 item 3156or item 3748.

Top build for Skarner currently is item 1400 and item 3078.

only if you're a pussy

item 3071 item 3812 item 3053 item 3078 item 3748 are all good items for the majority of juggernauts, I usually take at least two

they have strong off-builds with lethality but they're conditional on being against squishy teams, and some of them can use crit Garen Darius Illaoi

I think the real trick with Juggernauts/Divers/fighters in general is, If you build enough damage to deal with the glass cannon, you will always have enough damage to deal with the glass cannon moving forward. (Cause the glass cannon won't build any defenses) For most champs, this can be done with 1 or 2 items. Some champs like Mundo, don't even really need a damage item.

And once you have that base level of damage, you can afford to build tanky afterward, and still have that damage threat to the squishiest members of the enemy team, while being that much harder to kill.

I think the main reason why a Juggernaut may only use one such item, is partially because they want to get tankier sooner. (While some divers can afford to be a little squishy while building their TF) Though unlike divers, Juggernaut's are not really reliant on Bursting down the glass cannon, but rather just hitting anyone and everyone on the enemy team.
