Ideas for compensating the removal of Critical Damage if it does happen

I believe the general consensus is that Critical Strike should be removed in Marksman Update because it's Random Number Generator (RNG), which is totally luck based and serves little counterplay.

One of the solutions to fix this would be implementing another system in place of this system. All of the champions that have Critical Chance/Critical Strike Damage inherent in their kits should be reworked as well.

Let's start off with my idea of reworking the system. Instead of granting Critical Chance with items, they should reconstruct a system that is called Enhanced Auto Attacks. The Enhanced Auto Attacks are gated by on-target cooldown, which I will explain later on in the item section. The items that currently grant Critical Chance should grant more percentage damage, stacking additively, on enhanced auto attacks instead. For the next sections I will further explain my ideas of rework in terms of items and champions to give you a better look of what I am talking about.


Items NOTE: The cap of Enhanced Auto Attack Percentage is 175%. That means an enhanced auto attack can at most deal 275% damage of the damage a normal auto attack can deal. Enhanced Auto Attack Percentage stacks additively and can only modify the damage values of basic attacks (unless otherwise stated). The damage gained from Enhanced Auto Attack Percentage is considered as bonus physical damage, unless otherwise stated. Note that the statistic does not grant champions any Bonus Attack Damage, unless otherwise stated. Abilities and item unique actives and passives that modify basic attacks should only take bonus attack damage/total attack damage/base attack damage into account but not the Enhanced Auto Attack Percentage. Abilities that are treated like basic attacks but are not basic attacks will not benefit from Enhanced Auto Attack Percentage nor the unique passives that involve it, unless otherwise stated.

Unique Passive – Enhancement: Enhance your auto attacks based on the total Enhanced Auto Attack Percentage. item 3087 Statikk Shiv: ~~ +20% critical strike chance~~ +100% Enhanced Auto Attack Percentage +40% attack speed +6% movement speed Unique Passive: Moving and attacking builds Static Charges. At 100 charges, your next attack expends the charges to deal 100 magic damage to up to 4 targets. This damage can critically strike. This damage can be modified to deal more damage based on Enhanced Auto Attack Percentage. Unique Passive – Enhancement: Enhance your auto attacks based on the total Enhanced Auto Attack Percentage. Minion, monster, and champion kills grant 60 movement speed for 2 seconds. This movement speed bonus is halved for ranged champions. Unique Passive – Spellblade: After using an ability, the next basic attack deals 200% base AD bonus physical damage (1.5 second cooldown). Unique Passive – Enhancement: Enhance your auto attacks based on the total Enhanced Auto Attack Percentage. Enhanced auto attacks cannot be incurred on the same target within a short interval (8 [Level 1-6]/6 [Level 7-11]/4 [Level 12-15]/3 [Level 16-18] seconds).

item 3142 Youmuu's Ghostblade: +15% critical strike chance +55% Enhanced Auto Attack Percentage +30 attack damage +10% cooldown reduction Unique Passive: +20 armor penetration. Unique Active: +40% attack speed and +20% movement speed for 6 seconds (45 second cooldown). Unique Passive – Enhancement: Enhance your auto attacks based on the total Enhanced Auto Attack Percentage. Enhanced auto attacks cannot be incurred on the same target within a short interval (8 [Level 1-6]/6 [Level 7-11]/4 [Level 12-15]/3 [Level 16-18] seconds).

item 3031 Infinity Edge: +20% critical strike chance REMOVED +80 attack damage ** Unique Passive**: +50% critical strike damage Unique Passive: Increase your Enhanced Auto Attack Percentage by 55%. If you auto attack the same target 3 times, Enhancement's on-target Cooldown is reduced by 1 second. This cannot happen more than once per target in 10 seconds. Unique Passive: Moving builds Enhancement charges. Upon 100 stacks, your next basic attack or ability expend all the charges and deal 110 x ( Enhanced Auto Attack Percentage + 10%) bonus Physical Damage, up to 4 targets. Any targets beyond the Auto Attack target or the primary target of the ability will take half damage. This damage does not interfere with Auto Attacks nor Enhanced Auto Attack Percentage. (NOTE: "Primary target of the ability" means the closest enemy to the center of Area of Effect if the ability is Area of Effect ability.) COST: 3600 Gold

Champions Fiora Fiora: Bladework (E): ACTIVE: Fiora's next two basic attacks gain bonus range and 50% bonus attack speed.

The first basic attack can never critically strike be enhanced, but slows its target for 1 second, while the second basic attack is guaranteed to critically strike for bonus critical damage enhanced to deal bonus damage, but it can only be modified by the following bonus Enhanced Auto Attack Percentage. Enhanced Auto Attack Percentage by any other means is not considered.

BONUS CRITICAL DAMAGE: -60 / -45 / -30 / -15 / 0% BONUS ENHANCED AUTO ATTACK PERCENTAGE: 5/25/55/100/120%

Pantheon Pantheon: Heartseeker Strike (W): CERTAIN DEATH - PASSIVE: Pantheon critically strikes all enemies below 15% of their maximum health with his basic attacks and Spear Shot (Q). Pantheon enhances his basic attacks and Spear Shot (Q) at all enemies below 15% of their maximum health.

Shaco Shaco: Deceive (Q): ACTIVE: Shaco instantly blinks to the target location and stealths for up to 3.5 seconds, also causing his next basic attack within 6 seconds to critically strike for bonus critical damage. be enhanced for bonus damage. This basic attack can only be modified by the following bonus Enhanced Auto Attack Percentage:

BONUS CRITICAL DAMAGE: -60 / -40 / -20 / 0 / 20% BONUS ENHANCED AUTO ATTACK PERCENTAGE: 10/30/60/100/135%

Tryndamere Tryndamere: Battle Fury (Passive): FURY: Tryndamere gains 5 Fury each time he lands a basic attack, increased to 10 Fury on critical strikes enhanced Auto Attacks, and 10 Fury each time he kills an enemy. After not dealing receiving damage for 8 seconds, Tryndamere loses 5 Fury per second.

BATTLE FURY: Tryndamere gains 0.35% critical strike chance 0.5% Enhanced Auto Attack Percentage per point of Fury he currently has, up to a maximum of 35% critical strike chance 50% Enhanced Auto Attack Percentage.

Yasuo Yasuo: Way of the Wanderer (Passive): INTENT: Yasuo's critical strike chance is doubled, but his critical strikes deal 90% damage, reduced to 75% damage on Steel Tempest. Yasuo's Auto Attacks and Steel Tempest are guaranteed to be enhanced by Enhanced Auto Attack Percentage permanently, but the Enhanced Auto Attack Percentage will always be reduced by 40% on auto attacks, reduced by 50% on Steel Tempest, but it cannot be negative.

Ashe Ashe: Frost Shot (Passive): Ashe cannot critically strike normally, but her basic attacks against Frosted enemies always critically strike, increasing their damage by 10% + (critical strike chance × (1 + bonus critical damage))%. Ashe cannot enhance her basic attacks normally, but her basic attacks against Frosted enemies are always enhanced, increasing the damage by 40% + ( Enhanced Auto Attack Percentage x {0.2 [Level 1-6]/0.4 [Level 7-11]/0.6 [Level 12-15]/0.8 [Level 16-18]} )

Edit: If you think it will not happen in the near future because Ashe's rework is pioneered experimental project, or whatever it should be, please do not downvote my thread because this reason is not substantial enough to disagree with my ideas plus my ideology of why RNG sucks.

how many times are we going to get these threads. this idea has come up over and over and over. this is basically what ashe passive currently does and it appears you are tweaking it slightly?

crit is here to stay man. RNG sucks, but its here to stay. riot has already said they won't do something like give the ashe passive to all champions to replace crit.

personally I feel a more practical way to rework crit is to guarantee a critical strike every X amount of attacks based on how much crit chance you have. In order to prevent this from being abused by hitting creeps/neutral monsters it is after every X amount of attacks against the SAME target. so if you had 50% crit, every other auto attack would crit against that same target. so if you hit a target twice, you will crit them on the second auto. whereas if you auto attack scuttle crab 4 times with 20% crit you will not crit on your next attack on anything BUT scuttle crab. I still don't think that is feasible, but I think something like that is more likely than just amplifying every auto attacks damage.

Based upon Riots work this season, even taking into consideration them using Ashe as a test pilot project, I don't think Crit is being removed next season.

I don't feel they have a good enough idea yet for how to replace it without abuse case scenarios occurring and breaking the semblance of balance they have so far.

I could be wrong, and perhaps they've engineered a brilliant way and will shock me with it. A man can only hope however.

If they do remove it they'd better give people who own crit runes of any kind some damn good compensation...
