Tryndamere now does 1.35 ad damage on a crit rather than 2.0 ad damage on a crit

Also, he gains a 1% chance to crit for each point of fury, from 0 up to 100. Additionally, he converts all crit chance from items into 2% bonus crit damage.

So what does that all mean?

  1. At zero fury he has zero chance to crit regardless of his items.
  2. At full fury he is guaranteed to crit on every hit, but the damage he does is dependent on how much crit chance giving items he has bought.
  3. His ability to cheese lanes early with a string of lucky crits is no longer a thing
  4. Conversely, he can't lose lane because he was unlucky and managed to not crit one time in an early skrimish
  5. He is far more dependent on fury late game, and since he can't crit with zero fury he can't build it anywhere nearly as quickly, which widens the windows in which he is vulnerable.
  6. His total possible damage at full fury increases by quite a bit if he buys a lot of crit chance gear, since he converts it into crit damage.

#Item example: item 3031 item 3046

Without these changes provides him with a 55% chance to crit for 2.5 ad at zero fury, and a 90% chance to crit for that same amount at full fury

With these changes, those items would provide Tryndamere with a 0% chance to crit at zero fury, and a 100% chance to crit for 2.95 ad at full fury.

In other words, his damage output at zero fury decreases by 45% and his damage output at full fury increases by 26%.

Beyond this, Tryndamere without these changes would want attack damage, armor pen, and attack speed to balance out his high crit chance since he may overcap on crit if he buys any more.

Tryndamere with these changes could opt to make himself even more dependent on fury by buying more crit chance, giving him more total damage at full fury but providing no fall back damage if he has zero fury.

Buff or nerf?

Basically a nerf since he'd have a predictable damage pattern.

Consider what happens at full build:

item 3046 item 3031 item 3046 item 3072 item 3035 item 3074

2309 DPS according to http://www.teryd.net/

Now, let's consider your version of Tryn

487.1 AD, 365% crit damage, 100% crit chance, 1.806 AS => 3210.91449 DPS

And that's probably not even the optimal build. This Tryn would need serious limitations before it would be considered a good idea. Maybe the crit damage should be limited to 3.0AD to discourage people from stacking too many crit items.

Don't get me wrong, I actually think this is a good idea, but it needs more thought.

Try calculating without the second PD on the original Trynd, since current Trynd has no reason to build that much crit chance. Substitute Botrk or zephyr.

Besides there is a limitiation. He has literally no chance to crit without fury, so most of his items would be worthless and he would be no better at auto attacking than anyone else with 400 ad. And unlike current Tryndamere than can crit 5 times from empty fury in order to fill it up, the proposed idea prohibits him from doing that because he won't gain any bonus fury on a crit at zero fury-- simply because he won't even have a chance to crit to begin with.

Most good Tryndamere players keep their fury bar full except when they're running or they've finished using their ult (at which point they'll be dead soon anyway).

Also, that's a good point re: the second PD, but usually Tryndamere players would have a BotRK in there instead, which wouldn't even increase the DPS that much - my calculator gives 2200 DPS + the BotRK % current health DPS (probably around 200-300 extra DPS on average). PD provides a LOT of attack speed based DPS, it's barely even worth considering a swap in item in terms of DPS alone since PD gives decent DPS (increase crit chance from 90% -> 100%, and 50% attack speed)

Zephyr, of course, also reduces DPS because 10% crit chance from the PD is worth more than 25 damage. Of course, it's worth noting that the CDR, MS and Tenacity from Zephyr are definitely more than the extra damage from the PD crit chance.
