Here is why Yi is much stronger now than he was before.

Fervor of battle.

It essentially gives him a free 100% damage increase late game with 0 items. Fervor of battle adds as much damage on-hit as his entire base AD late game while also synergizing with double strike and devourer.

This means he can afford to take tank items without affecting his effective damage.

Before, Yi could either be tanky and do good sustained damage, or be glass and do huge sustained damage. Now he can either be tanky and do huge sustained damage, or be glass and 1 shot people.

This is why I think the new masteries are unbalancable. As we've seen, there's always been an abuse case: Graves with thunderlords, Trynd with Warlord's, Yi with fervor, now Udyr with Strength of Ages rushing Zz'Rot.

Guinsoo's. Devourer is fine as it is, but items that synergize well with it can become a problem

All the attack speed jg items always end up being broken. Rip Feral Flare

Both never used in LCS.

When Devourer was released his passives didnt work with it, now since s6 begin, all of them are applied along with phantom attack.

Honestly, this isn't actually the problem. Yi was strong in season 5 as well, and by the end of it people had already shifted to Devourer -> BotRK -> Tank as his primary build path. Fervor is good for him and has definitely made him stronger, but getting to deal great damage while being tanky was already a part of his kit. It's actually more a symptom of his on-hit scaling. On-hit items don't scale manipulatively with each other, so he doesn't pay as much of a cost for skipping out on additional damage items as normal AD (or AP) champions would.

So, to be clear, Fervor has made Yi stronger, but it isn't the cause of the tanky build that still has sustained damage. That existed before Fervor.

It's all about the gold and power spikes.

He used to do that build. He was glass until he had Deadman's and Maw.

I did that build in s4 with Atma's and Ghostblade. Still low damage.

Doubling his base damage at level 18 is kind of a big deal. It'll be like if Hecarim had 400 base damage on each Q. That's insane and OP right? That's how Yi is like.

Honestly, ever since Sated Devourer came to the game, it was viable to build Yi as a bruiser. Before, you could still do that, but Yi's damage would fall off late game. Now it doesn't because Sated Devourer allows Yi to double on-hit effecs on every second basic attack, which has synergy with his E and any possible on-hit effects that he can purchase, allowing him to go tank much more comfortably

frevor gives as much on hit as basically. 2 devoureres. people don't know. but late game. its the best mastery in terms of powerspikes. but it can only be used by auto attackers obviously.

Does Fervor of Battle apply 2x with Sated? What about with his double strike?

BluePolarizer1 votes

sated definitely applies. Don't know about double.

XeroKimo1 votes

Double strike should work as well, it kinda works like a 2nd auto after all at half damage...... I mean it applies life steal on the double strike damage

Lmao I find it amusing I played against your Yi today

lol I have 200+ games on Yi from before though, so that may have been an overly optimistic game. Most Yi players may not see similar results. The reason is alot of Yi players don't know when they are strong and when they are weak. I'm still learning myself after all these games.

"Just pick hard CC against Yi and you'll counter him."

item 3139 :)))))

item 3930 item 3124 item 3812 item 3742 item 3139 (plus a last AD item of Yi's choosing) is such a broken item combo on such a broken champ.

Deadman's Plate + Sterak's = Tanky now? Sure it's not entirely glass cannon but it's hardly tanky.

Also, how on Earth is Udyr abusing Strength of the Ages and more than any other jungler, or Graves with Thunderlords compared to the other Thunderlords users? Do you even know what you're talking about.

BluePolarizer2 votes

Udyr - can build full resistance items instead of HP/resistance. This is a free giant's belt which is very important on a power-spike dependent champ like Udyr. This has been shown with the Zzrot portal/Runic Echoes build which gives him a gigantic powerspike in terms of survivability and objective control.

Graves with thunderlords can proc it with Q+auto. normally on other champs this isn't a big deal at all but Graves also simultaneously had some of the highest AD scaling in the game and also tends to build AD which makes thunderlords on him much more impactful than other ADCs.

I'm not sure if it's the demographics of this game or not but you seem very combatative. Why do you ask "do you even know what you're talking about?" Of course I have an opinion with experience to back it up. That's why I'm plat and you're bronze.

Udyr uses it exactly the same as anyone else. He has problems but the keystone is hardly a contributor to his strength.

I see what you mean with Gravea but that's hardly an abuse of it, he just procs it a tad slight faster than other frequent users of the keystone.

The only real abuse case was Yasuo and Tryndamere with the initial iteration of Warlord's, where they were getting use out of it like nobody else could due to their passives. Obviously therr are other cases of certain champs getting extra better use of a keystone than others, but Udyr and Graves are efiniyely not that. Yi I can see due to all the attack speed he gets from even just his ult. I think Kog'maw does Fervor even better though.

I'm not even going to dignify that rank comment with a proper response.

Yes, tank yi is insane and probably becouse of fervor.

Glass cannon yi always was able to one shot people, so fervor doesn't help as much as you think.
