PBE new item for scaling AP champions
Mana Gem (Item 3052)
Recipe: Sapphire Crystal  + 450g = 850g
Grants mana and cooldown reduction.
Mana Item (Item 3053)
**Recipe:** Mana Gem item + Needlessly Large Rod  + 550g = 3000g
Grants ability power, mana and cooldown reduction.
** Passive **- Expanded Mind: Increases maximum mana by X%, and generates stacks of Insight whenever mana is expended (X conversion rate), up to X stacks (X% of maximum Mana).
Active - Mana Burst: Release a shockwave, consuming all stacks of Insight. Enemies hit by the shockwave are dealt X (+ X% AP) magic damage. Allies hit by the shockwave restore X mana.
so this a new AP item currently being tested on the PBE, and as you can probably already see it has great synergy with the Tear/ Archangel's staff line of item, which also grant a mana increase and AP based on total mana.
there is already a problem with this item, and that is Ryze and Cassiopeia, if the item is OP then they inherently become the strongest champions in the game, maybe a short sighted thing to say but why wouldn't they? both like the flat mana CDR and AP, they spam spells for charges, and benefit from both uniques.
similar to how spell vamp worked, the spell vamp stat had to be balanced around the champions that already had it in their kit, vlad and akali; to a degree where no one else is all that good with it, that is what i am afraid of, an item that is only useful on 2 or 3 champions in the entire game because it had to be nerfed to coincide with them.
AP champions that currently build tear as part of their core, so Ori, Karthus, Ziggs, Azir, AP Ezreal, Garen, drunk Singed. will all build it as part of their core, maybe the high gold cost of a needlessly large rod was put into it to deter Ryze, which delays him getting tanky enough to use his short range in teamfights. but it cannot be denied that this item is a buff to scaling mages.
another thing of note, a buff to scaling mages, is also a nerf to assassins and assassin mages, play lame until you reach all your items and you will be even stronger than before.
