Melee AP Brawler Item?

Hemulen Magi··2 votes·1,001 views

I would like to see a melee-only AP brawler item added to the game for use by Chogath Galio Gragas Singed Rumble Mordekaiser. What do you all think?

I think it could provide some sort of ramping damage over time effect scaling with health. It could deflect a percentage of incoming damage and grants temporary bonus magic damage based on the total damage deflected. Unique but a bit like an AP version of item 3053.

For the sake of imagining, let's say it deflects 10% of incoming damage, granting 1 charge per 10 damage deflected, and grants 1 AP per charge. If you take 2,000 hp of damage in a fight, it would reduce it to 1,800 incoming damage, and could grant 20 extra AP from the effect. Let's say that the item has an active effect that grants a burning AOE damage aura and/or splash effect on autoattacks that is stronger based on the number of stored charges, but the damage deflection is disabled while the active is on cooldown (windows of power).

It could use item 3084's icon on SR.

item 3001

I think that there is room for more than one melee-focused AP brawler item. Abyssal Mask would probably be built along with this new item by some champions. Mordekaiser and Rumble are manaless though, so Abyssal Mask doesn't really favor them. This new item would be more of an AP juggernaut item and with less supportive potential than Abyssal Mask.

item 3151

item 3151 is just more effective on mages. Both of its passive work better if you have item 3135 which AP fighter dont like building because it has no defensive stats. It's like building item 3033 or item 3036 on Darius just would be awful.

item 3151 item 3116 is CORE ON both rumble and mord

Because there is no other option. Everything else is absolute trash on them. And that still doesn't address the main issues.

You should check out my post about it here a link.

item 3151 is exactly what they want, its hp, ap and does bonus damage the longer the fight. its not a mage burst item.

and item 3116 works with their kits and synergies with item 3151 passive making it better.

how can they not want the stats from both items ?

Sorry updated my previous comment when you messaged this but you should check it out.

I said mages, not burst mages but I guess more in particular control mages and battle mages use it much better.

battle and control mages? hmm like rumble and mord? rumble is a great zone/control "mage" lane bully whos whole kit works with that item and passives greatly. mord is a battle mage

is it great for cho ? nope not really but he is a tank. its better for champs that do a lot of dot/dps aoe damage

but singed sure, gragas it can, it works well with maokai if you play him ap bruiser. galio can use it and mask.

Frosted Tips1 votes

Rumble is classified as a fighter. He has control mage aspects but he is for the most part a fighter. Morde is a juggernaut but that may change sense they are reworking him again next year so I'm not to worried about him rn.

The thing is that any champion that doesn't build Voild also like singed, gragas, and galio get less use out of it then mages do because they have the damage drastically mitigated.

you dont need void staff for landries to be effective. void staff would make any mage do more magic damage cuz of the passive.

landries does more damage due to dot/cc and being in fights with target over time. it isnt any good for burst mages or assassin mages. it is meant for BATTLE MAGE aka FIGHTERS aka JUGGERNAUT mages

Frosted Tips1 votes

Battle mages are different than fighters but the passive does magic damage and it increases your magic damage so if your damage is getting mitigated and some else is getting mitigated alot less than it would be better on them then you. And again I'm not talking about burst mages or assassins.

Do you understand how to play rumble? Rumble is a melee mage, you build stuff like item 3151 item 3116 item 3157 because he has good AP scaling, the health cause he is melee and needs some defensive stats. the zhonya’s is core on him because it gives him ap and armor, and When he activates q and stasis he can easily deal free damage to the enemy team while not being able to be bursted down or cc’ed.

Frosted Tips1 votes

Yeah his "good AP scaling" that one scaling above 50% yup insane scaling. Also he builds zhonya's for active only because he does damage over time he has to live and since AP items suck for that zhonya's is his only option but yeah you should check out that link you quoted.

So a max rank rumble q with 315 base total damage plus 110% AP is bad? And that isn’t even the enhanced form.

One good scaling does not mean he has good scaling in general for a champion.

Literally all of his abilities except his ult have amazing scaling. Tf you mean only one ability has good scaling, all of his enhanced versions have super good scaling because they are the stronger forms of the abilities. 75% ap scaling on a 330 base shield is pretty good if I remember correctly. And there are some items like item 3001 that does help rumble be more tanky, but it is generally not worth to get Abysall because rumble will benefit more from raw AP to boost his abilities. But there are items like item 3157 and item 3102 that increase his resistances, which both can help him as a melee mage.

Frosted Tips1 votes

It is 50% on the shield and that is the second best scaling.

The thing is after laning phase it feels as if his overheat passive is only their to exist as a way to stop him from dealing damage. The increased damage on basic attacks is a cool mechanic that because he is forced to build full mage is not usable out of lane phase. If AP fighter in general had items that helped them in extended fights like AD fighters have than maybe there would be builds to use his cool unique passive.

That is the regular shield (0-49), not the enhanced one (50-100). The enhanced shield scaling is 75% ap.

Btw you still can shoot an electric harpoon if you are overheated. The overheat mechanic is useful outside of the laning phase because your kit helps you to get in range for the entire duration of your q, and if you can get in range of the q then you can easily basic attack them when overheated. The thing about CDR and rumble is that if you spam your abilities as soon as they get off CD you will quickly get overheated, which means that you can’t cast w for the shield, cast e for the slow or (most importantly) cast your r. And items like liandry’s, Void and Crystal Scepter all help in extended trades. The liandy’s passive has tick damage based on enemy max hp, the void staff has it’s ignore 40% of target’s MR (which makes rumble’s q, e, r, and the burn passive of Liandry deal more damage). Rumble’s entire kit is for extended trades.

A little while ago I thought of a build that used rumble’s passive a bit, the rune was conq, and the idea was that you would build up the conq passive, proc the rune, then deal more damage with all of your abilities and the increased damage of the overheated autos.

This is false if the enemies are even relatively decent players and I'm talking Gold maybe Silver 3 up they will just all focus you if you try to aa someone in a team fight as Rumble.

As long as it's good on Kassadin I'm down

Hemulen Magi1 votes

Sure, but it would probably be a bit off-meta on him since he'd sacrifice some damage output (or at least make his damage uptime in limited windows) building it.
I can imagine a brawler Kassadin being decent: item 3027 item 3116 item 3084 item 3157 item 3102 for example With item 3084 being a placeholder icon for the new melee AP item.

I made a post like a week ago about ap fighter not having Items they need to exist here is a link.
