How's your experience with Aphelios in games so far?

I feel mixed. Trying to see how to play against. I haven't played enough games to get a solid viewpoint but most games I've seen him in shows he holds high burst damage, sustain, and a strong laning phase.

Saw him against a Cait and he was outpoking her with turrets (good on the player's part) and his sniper. Sustained with his lifesteal weapon and managed to fear off the jungler with the chakrams.

In one game, his W did 1K damage to me but I was ahead in gold. Basically was deleted in a W+R combo.

Free poke with his targeting which chunked about 15% of Cait's HP at tier 2 items (one back away from a single item).

Despite these negatives, I don't find his laning to be as annoying or oppressing as Caitlyn's or other ADCs. I find it much more fun to go against. I also haven't lost lane to him single-handedly. (Always ahead in KDA/CS but lose tower due to a jungler/roamer).

Have yet to see a game where he's significantly behind or loses hard or a counterpick.

Anybody have such examples in their match history?

The only thing i've noticed is the lack of VFX indicators of Aphelios abilities. I think Aphelios VFX should be changed to make his attacks and skills more obvious. Also maybe add some kind of indicator on the opponents screen (like teemos blind) to make it more obvious when one of his cc abilities is used on you.

Aphelios is VERY strong with little investment, easily out ranging, out dueling, and out DPSing traditional marksmen an entire item ahead. The most difficult ive had to deal with though is Sephelios bot lane. Between Ahpelios and Senna they can a lead and snowball into a 20 minute game if theyre good.

It's almost absurd how easy it is to kill this guy.

Like, he's not the first super-squishy champion in the game, but most champions have something to keep them alive.

Vayne pushes you away, goes invis, and tumbles all over the place. Ashe has long range, constant slows, and a stun. Teemo at least doesn't get oneshot by basic attacks, and he can dodge skillshots easily.

And then there's Aphelios.

  • He starts with 2 more HP than Teemo. This is the only good news he's ever going to get as far as "not dying" goes. That starting HP is right between Soraka and Orianna, and at level 18 he has 66 less HP than Teemo.
  • Starting Armor is below average, but fine. Level 18 armor is 17th worst in the game. 9.1 less than Teemo.
  • He has 550 attack range, which isn't half bad, so he can at least try and farm safely. Calibrum helps, but you can't use that all the time.
  • He has 330 movement speed (the second lowest tier in the game, not counting Janna or unmounted Kled), which is kinda abysmal.
  • His only mobility spell is a 1.75 second, 20% movement speed boost. If he doesn't have his Pistol, he just has absolutely nothing.
  • His only CC is Gravitum. The slow is genuinely good, but it won't save you from any champion with a mobility spell. The Root is good for picks. You'd think it was good for kiting, but it's not that great. It's a 1 second root with a rather long backswing, so it doesn't open a huge gap. When he doesn't have that, he has absolutely no CC.

When paired with a champion who can protect the living shit out of him, he's very good.

If not, he will get instagibbed at the mere suggestion of a stiff breeze.

My primary experience has been having no idea what he's doing as they've seemingly decided not to bother giving proper visual effects for his anything aside from the turrets. Especially that ult, the only time you can tell he hit it is by the triple kill. No flash, pazaz or anything to read. A real failure both for playing against him and spectators as there's not much to actually see aside from spontaneous deaths.
