Would love to see different forms of final items in this game.

Itemization in league is so linear it's almost gut wrenching, With the exceptions of some outliers and niche builds. Build paths in this game are stagnant and needs a good kick in the ass to jump start some new build paths.

My idea of how to alleviate this is having items like item 3031 item 3089 item 3157 item 3072 could have 2 forms much like

item 3074 item 3748 or item 3033 item 3036

You could make something like "Zhonyas shield" which would build out of item 3191 +item 3010 The passive on it would be much like item 3156 in the fact that after getting to X amount of health you would gain a shield that only blocks physical damage. This would give mages an easier time not getting BTFO by a marksmen and not gimping them early game on mana by rushing item 3157

Likewise with item 3031 make a new item called "Eternity's blade" build it from item 1038 +item 1018 +item 3057 Keep the 250% crit damage, Lower the basic damage of the item to 50 but give it a unique passive like "After hitting an enemy champion with a damage dealing skill you're next auto attack will Ricochet to nearest enemy "Prioritizing champions" taking 75% of the damage from the primary shot and slowing them for 1.5 seconds rapidly decaying. And give it like a 20 or 30s cooldown.

Again these are just random ideas that obviously would not work in the game but the purpose of the discussion remains. It would be nice to have more itemization and not less.

This actually sounds like a really good mechanic for the game, if riot took a look at this and found a way to give a bunch of different items different forms that would give benefits to something but also force you to give up something else (Like you said with titanic and hydra one gives more ad and life steal while the other gives tank stats) it would really spice up the game and make item builds a bit more impactful then one build every game.

Maybe if riot would stop; gutting alternative items, buffing already core items, and removing niche items.

the general idea doesnt seem too bad, but combining item 3191 with health and adding a shield passive on top of it wouldnt be quite fair. even when this would be intended for battle mages.

but on regular mages, it would be straight up bullshit. the reason mages dont have more ap/armor options to stack with zonyas is because theyre still supposed to be somewhat vulnrable to getting caught by fighters and assassins and not turn into ranged, bursty bruisers.

your example with item 3031 edge seems a bit off aswell. theyre entirely different items effectively.

more appropriate would be something like

path a) item 3031 and path b) an item that grants ad + critical strike, but instead of granting 50% bonus crit damage, it modifies crits in some other way, like adding a magic bleed effect similar to item 3122

Yeah the examples I gave I knew were nonsensical but it was just a way of showing different things that could be done to improve diversity of itemization.
