First-timing champs in ranked

In my opinion, first timing champs in ranked is a form of greifing/trolling and should be punishable if done too many times. Or at least solve this problem by giving masteries a use, players below mastery 4/5 just aren't able to play the champ in ranked.

Oh man I just had that the other day. Someone decided it would be a good idea to play his Garren for the first time ever (including practice). He was so nice and apologized after drafting him for having never played him and wanting to try him out. Needless to say he fed huge and slowed our jungle who tried to help him after he fed the other team and cost us the game.
I’m pretty sure both teams reported him. I just can’t imagine how someone would think it’s a good idea to play a never used before champ in ranked. That’s what training and normal games are for.

It would be nice if they had a way to block players from playing champions they have never played before. Something small like 1-2k of those points that show up on the loading screen would suffice. Just enough to show they have some experience.

That would mean everyone would need 20 champs with mastery 4 or 5 to play ranked. That's quite a lot as a base requirement imo.

I don't understand why anyone is allowed to play a champion in ranked with 0 mastery points.

I honestly Think this would be super positive for the game. It prevents people from playing a champ for the first time in ranked. It dissuades people from smurfing as they would have to regain mastery on each champion to spam it in ranked. It stops people from buying botted accounts after getting banned for being toxic as they would have to regain mastery on all their champs. LIterally only upsides to this.

If I get autofilled, I don't have a mastery 4/5 champion to play. Do I get punished for trolling for playing a champion I don't know very well, or would you rather I play my mastery 5 soraka as your jungle?

At low elo like me, is there a difference between playing a new champion or my mastery 5 Janna that I have a 14% win rate and haven't played in ranked in over a year because I know I'm not strong with her?

Well, the idea is not completely useless.

But I have a better proposal why stop there? why not make it so if someone has less than 40% with a champ in normals they aren't allowed to play the champ in ranked too?

Mastery means fuck all. Winrate speaks tons
