I can't remember the last time I played with or against a good enchanter player. Nowadays all we play against is the same old 
catchers with the "one hook and you die" mentality. Not saying tanky catchers should stop being played, it just gets incredibly monotonous seeing the same champs every. Single. Game.
Riot will never let healers/shielders/enchanters be anything above trash.

At least in the braindead mage support meta I actually got to do stuff in lane, and I say this as someone who despises mage supports. All enchanters besides Yuumi have to interact and put themselves at risk in order to stay relevant in lane. Most enchanters are lane bullies early game, which is why they're a problem top lane. In bot lane ADCs are typically ranged and supports have kits to counter them.
The point is, against these champions bot lane you have opportunities to make a play because there are moments of vulnerability during laning phase.
Against engage supports you're left staring at each other, maybe exchanging light harass, until they make a move. That's what you're doing as a support that isn't a tank. When you are a tank, you're both just unkillable and nothing happens.
How is that remotely fun? Who wants to do that for the entire laning phase? Where's the skill expression? Half the time hooks land even when you miss.
You can play most champions as support. That's not a new phenomenon. We could do that in other metas as well.
Meta stands for most effective tactics, and right now picking an engage support is meta because you're unkillable bot lane, but if your enemy makes a single mistake, they're done for.
_Enchanters are meta: _"omg braindead heal bots in bot lane can't do anything so uninteractive" _ Tank supports are meta: _"can't even move or poke them down, get CC locked all the time unkillable"
_Hook supports are meta: _"one hook and you die, ridiculous"
I understand the Boards aren't a hivemind and that everyone has different opinions, it's just funny how we always see posts like these regardless of what the support meta is.
Yes, a few supports see much more play than others, but overall the support meta is pretty diverse right now. Nami, Janna, Soraka, Pyke, Thresh, Nautilus, Leona, Blitzcrank, Zyra, Senna, and Morgana (plus a few others I probably missed) are viable and strong in the right hands. It's not just "pick these 3 or you insta lose."
Never going to happen, sadly. It's been like this since season 8, hasn't it? Riot seems intent on keeping the game as aggro and damage-high as possible.
I hate playing with nontank supports, but it seems I will always get the yuumi or brand support thats useless. Consider yourself lucky.

I still see a lot of Nami and Sona is my permaban after last night (it WAS Leona though.) so Enchanters not named Yuumi are passable for sure. Hook supports came into vogue partly because of Senna, but once bot lane opens up to other champions again we'll continue seeing less of them
Pretty much only play 
atm. Really dont find hook champs fun. And i am an enchanter main i was one of the people that would always use 
before the ardent meta started mostly cause i saw it and thought "wow that item looks good" because i started playing league a little before the ardent meta showed up. I loved enchanters then and still love them.

i really feel like when i play her im just extra work for my adc. Also her idle talk and singing drives me fucking nuts.
I hope the balance meta at Riot changes eventually.
I main enchanters in general and Orianna specifically. I can't stand to play hook/tank supports (because lets be honest, the only tank support that isn't a hook support right now is Braum. TK is dead) for the same reason Deviruchi mentioned: the hook support playstyle is all about standing around zoning with your presence and throwing hooks every time an enemy steps up for a poke. It creates a lane where the only interaction is avoiding each other's range because eating one skillshot means death.
is the one exception to this and the one hook support I find well designed. He actually has some of his power budget in something that's neither CC nor being unkillable (the lantern), and that gives him both more skill expression and more counterplay. He's fair when they haven't buffed him up to 53% for Worlds and then left him that way for 6 months.
All other hook supports should be redesigned to be more like Thresh. Strong engage is fine, tank is fine, but being both and nothing else is bad game design that leads to boring laning both as and against.

If you join a team, that's ALL they want you to play. The same 3 champs. Because if you don't, you're not being a team player. Yes Jungle and Top should be able to play whatever they want but support has to be about engage champs. I've played with 3 teams for Clash and they all do the same thing.
Its mainly because the damage in the meta is so high their reliable engage is pretty much an instant kill. Healers aren't worth much since people already heal through everything with conqueror, shields are bursted extremely quickly, and damage supports are just cannon fodder.
And I main Brand/Zyra while laughing at threads like this one 😜
