You came at a volatile time. They are doing a big reset on the state of ranked. It's a good time to climb, honestly. lots of randomness in games.

I know it was volatile, but still, I was doing alright and made it to the top of b3

now I get rolled back to b5?

edit: if I had won that game, would I have gone back to b5?

Ranked matchmaking is fucked, tons of people have been complaining and Riot even says they're going to fix it. There's no way to tell what you would have placed normally so all you can do is keep playing until they fix it or just wait to do ranked until after they fix it.
