I Have an idea that might just be ground-breaking. How about when we buy wards, they go into their own slot so they don't take up any inventory space. Then we can hold onto pink wards and green wards without having to give up space for other items.

Having less wards end-game actually helps to close the game if you think about it. If there are 20 wards out once everyone is full build, the game changes for it, and not really for the better.

Sightstone on support + sweeper lens Sweeper lens on jungler + possible sightstone(?) Upgraded blue on adc Upgraded stealth ward on midlaner Upgraded vision ward on top laner (or did I get top and mid switched?)
With that, you have a decent amount of vision available, with vision denial. If you want more vision, and don't need as much denial, the jungler can switch (if they don't have sightstone), the support can grab the vision ward upgrade, the top laner can switch to stealth wards, and so on.
