Gold Efficiency (Quoted from Zeke's Herald Page on lolwiki)

Zeke's Herald item 3050, Zeke's Herald is 105.7% gold efficient when alone. With four allies, its value is increased by (550 (value of lifesteal)+720 (value of AD)*4=5080, giving it a value of 7670g, and a gold efficiency of 313%. Even if CDR is already maxed out at the time of purchase, this item still becomes cost efficient at only one ally, at (2590-633+720+550)/2550=126.5%.

Something tells me that he math is horribly wrong or we have been in the dark way too long

Poppy and Gangplank are gonna start Shreking people as support

Note: This excludes Victor's Perfect Hexcore at level 18

It is and Rageblade is also extremely stat efficient when fully stacked

The issue comes when you ask how many people are really making good use of the life steal and AD

IF you have a Mao top, Hec jungler, Leblanc mid, Draven ADC and Sona support the only 2 that really are making good use of it are Hec and Draven.

On the other hand having a Talon Mid, Vi jungle, Nasus top, ADC jinx and support Thresh then you have 4 champs that can make really good use of the stats.

As such while it might be the most stat efficient item it is not the most effective in providing stats that are useful to all champs.

Cost efficient =/= slot efficient

item 3027 is technically a very gold efficient item on Vladimir, yet do you see anyone purchasing this item for him?

The mana is completely wasted and this item offers nothing aside from stats (and its regen passive which only works when you level up). If you want a similar, yet much better item for Vlad, there is item 3116.

The reason why it's gold efficient is because of the HP and AP, combined with Vlad's passive, making him gain a lot of stats from this item alone. Yet, this item isn't effective because of the reasons I stated above.

Another example: item 3142 is technically gold inefficient, yet it is necessary for some champions Fiora Riven MasterYi Talon to be able to engage and stick to their targets better.

Deathfire Grasp was also gold inneficient, yet due to its burst potential and stats, it had to be deleted, because this item was unhealthy for the game.

Thank you for the explanation

I understand that although Zeke's is very cost efficient no champion can really utilize its passive like they can do with other items

if that wasn't the case every freaking AD champion could be like, Rammus Ok, that isn't too op xD

Note: I can't really fix the name of the forum tho to fit the correct terminology at this point

Gold efficiency calcs can't really take the actives, or even many passives, into consideration.

It's why it is a flawed system for evaluating the value of an item.

In the case of Zeke's, technically it is extremely gold efficient, but giving all your teammates 20 AD and 10% LS isn't all that impactful in the grand scheme of things. Especially for tanks and AP champions, which should be at least 40% of your team.

This item might be strong if you had a full AD comp, but that team comp is doomed from the very beginning anyway.

The problem is that, unlike items like item 3105 that give tanky stats that all champions can use, Zeke's gives AD and lifesteal; which most champions don't fully utilize. I mean yeah, if you have a fully AD team comp with several champions that rely on auto attacks then Zeke's is the best darn item in the game.

But chances are you'll have mages, or utility supports, or tanks, or other roles/champs that don't scale with AD and don't do enough damage with their auto attacks to make the lifesteal do much. They're still getting the stats, but they're just not doing much with them.

The thing about Utility support tho is that Sona back in Season 3 would build it as her 3rd item because she benefits from auto attacks from her q and Karma has an ADC passive at this point so Zeke's isn't bad on her either

BastionKross1 votes

Sona was a much different champion back then. Karma may like auto attacking but it's not for damage purposes, it's for creating more opportunities to use her abilities; which is where most of her damage is coming from.

blueberrypancake1 votes

True that Sona was a different champion back then but with Q Aura and Zeke's you have a lot of AD boost to your team

BastionKross1 votes

You could be giving a thousand AD to your Ahri but if she's never using her auto attacks it might as well do nothing. If enhancing your allies auto attacks is what you're after, it's better to get item 3504 since it grants pure damage and not a stat that half the champions in League don't scale with.

But even then they still have to auto attack, and they might not have the time or opportunity to do so.

Lets just take a normal team comp from Season 3 that is heavier on the AD (Specifically the SKT team)

Holy crap, Zeke's is op

Note: But ADC Ahri is actually a thing kappa

Edit:Don't worry I agree with your point

The issue as I see it is how many AA teammates you have. If you only have an ADC, I'd say those numbers are off. Overall though there's no reason to think Zeke's Herald is bad. People don't buy it much because other items appeal more to most supports.

It is if 2 people have it and are next to each other instant 20% lifesteal 40 ad

It's gold efficient, but is it slot efficient? Unfortunately, it's not slot efficient.

This also doesn't include the fact that there are no supports that can effectively use this item, at least among meta support. A Thresh or Janna or Leona with a Zeke's Herald isn't much better than a Thresh/Janna/Leona without Zeke's Herald.

i had a troll game in ranked where my team had 3 adcs and i was support VLad or something like that. The game itself was even until i picked up herald than out of nowhere we started to win every fight and closed out the game shortly after. in certain situations the item isn't shit and is borderline op. just gotta look at your teamcomp and decide when it would be a good time to buy it
